Thank you so much. I’ve been wondering what are those 12db and 24db options on some synthesisers and in some eqs like fab filter why there are more options?
hey, thanks so much for watching :) thats a good question, so the reason some EQs have more options again is due to the steepness off the curve. since the 2 pole is sloped at 12dbs per octave and the 4 pole is sloped 24 dbs per octave, you can also have a slope that 18dbs per which would sound more distinct than the 2 pole but less distinct than the 4 pole, but you clould also have a filter with a slope of 36 dbs per octave and that would be a much sharper cutoff rate than a 2 pole or a 4 pole filter. so you can theoretical have a filter that cuts out in many different ways. hope that makes sense :)
Dan Fur yeah this makes sense and I’ve noticed that there is a 1 pole filter in massive x and that allows more frequencies to pass. Thank you so much (:
Man I love your channel. No BS here. Your videos are short, concise, and understandable. Sort of opposite of a lot of synth videos on RUclips. Keep up the astonishing work. The public service you’re doing is really important and, believe me, creating grateful viewers.
Yeah it's totally appreciated. Too many youtubers want to sit grinning in front of the camera for too long, padding out a 2 min video into a 10 minute life story.
ahh soo happy to hear this cleared things up a little bit for yah :) sometimes you want a more distinct cutoff, but other times you want it to be more subtle so its a good thing to know :)
This clarified it, I was under the impression that it was something about how many peaks there are (one for 2-pole, two for 4-pole). Where did I get this wrong idea? I don't know. Anyway thanks for clearing it up... and now back to synth noodling :)
1. Is there any meaning to a one pole filter? 2. Why where Curtis filters so sought after in the industry. What made them so great. 3. Can analog filters have the complexity of digital filter shapes. 4. I know there is a difference between the analog vs digital filters. However, for the life of me, I can't tell. I have a Virus Ti2, Waldorf Iridium, Pioneer AS-1 (Dave Smith), Elektron RYTM MKII, Elektron Analog 4MKII, Korg Kronos II, ASM Hydrasynth... and a couple of others... honestly, all these filters sound the same. 5. Lastly, what exactly is meant by synthesizers have a distinctive filter that it's reproduced on other synthesizers. For instance, my Korg Wavestate has the following filters created by the following Korg synthesizers (MS-20 LPF, MS-20 HPF, & Polysix). Don't all filters have the same basic shapes? What does it mean to recreate a filter from a particular synthesizer. Sorry, for so many questions. Thank you. I've always wondered on the differences between a 2 pole vs pole.
4x is a 48db Slope on EQ8. Not 24db per octave. Taken from the Ableton manual "48 or 12 dB/octave Low cut (cuts frequencies below the specified frequency);"

exactly! :)
I'm happy to help my friend
Dan Fur thank you (:

You keep it short and simple, Brilliant!

Underrated video. Simple and effective. Thanks
really appreciate this my friend :)) got many more synth vids on the way!
Thx to you for the explanations ! So clear now.
Very clear explanation, thanks
Great video. Straight to the point.
Thanks so much my friend :) really glad yah liked it :))
this was always a doubt for me. Thanks for the lesson

Great explanation. Thanks!
Really happy to hear that! :) hope your days been nice and synthy today!
Excellent explanation! thanks for the efectiveness. What´s the synth in the example at the end of the video?

Extremely helpful, thanks!
Thanks a lot for making this Video - and of course sharing your knowledge!
Nice and to the point, thank you!
happy to help :) you ever have any questions just let me know and id be happy to help answer
:))
thanks! clear and to the point.
Thanks dude!
easy. To the point. Great
Super clear thanks 👍
Thank you
My hero!
Great video! To the point and informative.
Where did the term “pole” come from? What is 2 pole and 4 pole referring to in the context of frequencies? Thanks!

I like this guy

Why the name? What is meant by a "pole"... No context
Pole? What pole? Where's the pole? Why pole? Why not hole?
