My family has always bugged me about my love for weapons. But I do not love them for the blood and gore that they spill like my family claims. But I did not know for the longest time how to put them into words why I loved them. Part of it is because some of weapons are really cool such as anduril. But once i heard faramir's quote, I knew that he put my feeling into words. Some books or parts of History I do not love what they defend, but this is 100% true with middle earth. " I do not love the bright sword for it's sharpness, nor the arrow for it's swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory, I love only that which they defend"- Faramir, the two towers
As a movie watcher, I think they did justice to the character particularly the extended cuts. Where his brother succumbed to temptation that lead to his doom, the other was willing to come back after realizing his mistake and redeem himself. He was a highly flawed but still a good man deep down which ultimately made for an inspiring character.
It was a pleasure to work with you once again Matt! Faramir is truly a great character who brings hope from faded Westernesse into the world of later days, and he is an excellent choice for this year's theme of hope and courage. Cheers brother!
“Ever your desire is to appear lordly and generous as a king of old... But in desperate hours gentleness may be repaid with death.' I think Faramir's virtues are what we desire in ourselves: reluctant warrior, thoughtful, kind, and persevering.
Me too. I’ve always admired Aragorn and still do, but I feel like I have more in common with Faramir. I can hold my own in a fight if I have to, but I enjoy the arts and knowledge. There’s that scene that was deleted from the original film but is in the extended version of Faramir and Pippin, where Pippin tells Faramir he has a different kind of strength. It’s a gentle strength, not the swaggering kind that Boromir had and most people interpret as strength. Faramir is often overlooked compared to other male characters in LOTR because he’s not the larger than life figure Aragorn is, and he lacks the etherealness of the elves or the bombastic nature of Gimli, but he’s as rock solid as anybody.
I was more than a little disappointed with the depiction of Faramir in the movies. He didn't treat Gollum harshly. He didn't drag Frodo and Sam towards Minas Tirith. He set them free with food, staves, and sound advice. He was an immense help in the quest to destroy The Ring.
I agree. However, I can absolutely understand that there needed to be a climax in the Frodo story in the second movie and that going for Shelob did not leave enough storyline on Frodo and Sam's journey for the third one. Yet, I love when Sam (or was it Frodo?) says in Osgilith "We should have never come here" (I don't know the exact words in English as I usually watch the German translation). I laugh out loud every single time at that line.
@@JorikPar True, but if it were up to me I'd have filmed it more like the way it was in the book, with Faramir resisting the temptation of The Ring and allowing the Hobbits and Gollum to continue on their way, without beating any of them.
ever since I was a kid, Faramir was my favorite character. Humble and noble who resisted evil, fighting for the sake of others rather than for his own glory...plus getting the girl at the end, he is just an awesome character. also having a dad who constantly points out failures made the character easy to relate too.
Faramir is, by far, my favorite character. He’s such a beautifully human man, he’s strong, loyal, and a natural leader, but he’s also humble, kind, and gentle. Phenomenally written and acted character.
Great video! It's easy to see why Faramir is so beloved of Tolkien fans. I think he is the most relatable character in the books. He is a human character with no predetermined role in life. He wishes only to do good by others and is seemingly incorruptible. Those are high virtues. I imagine we have all, whilst reading the books, imagined how we might avoid the Ring's temptation. Faramir shows that it is possible, but only through his worldview and the vows he has already made.
I was always a little butt hurt that they have Faramir be taken by the ring for far longer than the heartbeat it takes him to sack up and deny it. It was a HUGE thing being able to turn down the One Ring cold with barely a hesitation. Quality my good sir, Quality.
I wonder if Faramir Took son of Peregrin Took ever meet Faramir son of Denethor... Or if Pippin ever told Faramir *This Faramir,* he named his son after him... Either way, That would be so cute!!!
I love that fact that a character like Faramir is part of the story. A man of honor, high moral standards, valiant, strong and wise. The type of man many should strive to become. I have a question, what is that beautiful song that is usually on the background of your videos? It is lovely!
I do really like Peter Jackson's trilogy but the representation of Faramir in these movies didn't feel right. I thank you to show the real Faramir and bring justice to his figure. Amazing job! Keep the good work! :)
I'm sure I said this before on your channel but he truly had the best ending than any other character. A blonde bad ass witch king killing wife, resides over the stunningly beautiful country of Ithilien and has huge huge honor from everyone, a complete contrast from the love his father gave him all his life.
"I do not love the bright sword for it's sharpness, nor the arrow for it's swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory, I love only that which they defend"- Faramir of Gondor The perfect summation of the core virtues within the Lord of the Rings. [And was certainly missing from Game Of Thrones.]
I feel like GoT is a product of our time. If you'll compare classic storytelling to modern ones there is a stark difference when writing their heroes 🤔
I used to think this would give a better outcome -- until I realized that Frodo is still debating whether to go alone into Mordor when Boromir tries to take the Ring. If Faramir had been in the Fellowship, they might all have tried to go directly to Minas Tirith, and things would be... different.
Very interesting question. Knowing how wise and strong he is, almost like Aragorn, I think he would have followed Frodo and persisted without wanting to take the ring. He might have some temptation, but he is wiser than Boromir, so he wouldn't. That's what I think.
Call me a fool, but I don't believe it did. And I don't mean that in the sense of Christopher helping his father write all of this. I believe Tolkien was divinely inspired to a degree, LOTR renewed my belief in a higher power not the bible.
One of my favourite lines from The Two Towers is Sam's description of Faramir after he chooses not to take the ring. 'You said my master had an Elvish air; and that was good and true. But I can say this: you have an air too, sir, that reminds me of, of - well, Gandalf, of wizards.' 'Maybe,' said Faramir. 'Maybe you discern from far away the air of Númenor. Good night!'
It is nice to read how many others feel about this character. I always felt that the part in the houses of healing was one of the most tender parts of the trilogy, there are a few others. I was let down the movies really did not convey their love story. Eowyn was also an admirable character and it was sweetness they found each other.
"Is there a captain here who still has the courage to do his lord's will?" "You wish now that our places had been reversed...that I had died and boromir had lived..." "Yes...I wish that..." Honorable, wise, clever and untouched by the wickedness of the Great Deceiver. The fans have given that which Denethor promises to reward, because Faramir gave Fealty and was rewarded love, he gave us his valor and was granted honor. Denethor was disloyal and we took our revenge
Great video. I love the way you voiced Faramir when he goes calm and quiet while talking to Frodo and Sam. One small criticism, I wish you'd emphasised more the incredible level of love that Beregond and the rest of the soldiers have for Faramir.
That’s the one thing I really didn’t like in the films. They didn’t include the scene from the book where Faramir rejects the ring. Ruins the story arc where all the characters that refuse the ring such as Gandalf and Galadriel prosper and those that seek to take it such as Boromir, Denethor and Saruman perish. And if I could be one character in LOTR it would be Faramir. Especially as he finished up marrying Eowyn of Rohan 😍!
What a great character to feature for this special day! Great work, friend! I'm thinking we should start a new digital version of the Inklings. How about the Pixelings?!?
Nice work. I was always disappointed that Faramir and Frodo/Sam never had a moment or conversation together after the Ring was destroyed. They became pretty close after their day and a half together after the stewed rabbits incident, so it's sad Tolkien did not include some kind of exchange between them during "The Steward and the King" or "Many Partings."
Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel, and Faramir: The greatest heroes of Middle Earth were the ones who had the Will and Wisdom to resist claiming the power of the enemy.
Fantastic video. Faramir is really an interesting and very likeable character. Good choice and well narrated. Was also nice working together with you in this collab :)
Great video. Wonderful and amazing as we compare Faramir with several others like Saruman. Faramir would not take the ring, and he willingly gave up stewardship back to the King. Good examples of his love and commitment to people, country, honor, rather than power.
It seems like March 1 is an important date in Lord of the Rings. It's my birthday, so I have a bit of a special interest in it. Why does Tolkien use it so often? The scenes in Henneth Annun are my personal favourite part in all of the books. It's described as a place both absolutely beautiful and yet profoundly simplistic and practical. It's a safe haven in the middle of an unsafe land. There is this moment akin to a prayer, directed towards the West, showing that these men were carrying on the legacy of the Faithful, within the means they had. And then there is Faramir passing his test of temptation with flying colours, knowing himself as well as his enemy well enough to not indulge even the thought of taking the ring. The entire thing is, if you will, a wholistic picture of righteousness; The setting, the actions and the mindset displayed here say "We are doing the right thing for right things sake. There is no place for an alteriour motive here."
Amazing video as always! I would love to see a "what if Faramir went to Rivendell and became part of the fellowship instead of Boromir" video kind of like the "what if Gandalf took the one ring" video. Love your stuff and really appreciate the time and effort you put into your content, keep up the excellent work!
My wife and I love your videos!! We would love to see a video on what would have happened if Faramir had gone to the Council of Elrond instead of Boromir, given that both he and Faramir had the same prophetic dream. And by extension, if anything would have changed if Faramir was a part of the Fellowship instead of Boromir. Thank you!!

What a wonderful story FULL of things not known to myself. I love surprises and next time I watch the movies I will have a better perspective of the character of FARAMIR.
Great job to both you and all the Tolkien loving RUclipsrs! From the words of bilbo baggins AKA the late Ian holms, “This shall be a night to remember.”
I just finished the chapter when Faramir send Frodo, Sam and Gollum on there way, and he has become one of my favorite characters. They really did him dirty in the movies.

Faramir speaks the words of true patriotism in extolling his love of his home and nation
You are an exceptionally good storyteller. The goosebumps were real.
The more I view your channel and The Broken Sword, the more I fall in love with the entire story line and the characters.
Amazing video as always! I would love to see a "what if Faramir went to Rivendell and became part of the fellowship instead of Boromir" video kind of like the "what if Gandalf took the one ring" video. Love your stuff and really appreciate the time and effort you put into your content, keep up the excellent work!
Thank you for this video. Faramir is my favorite character. It was such a pleasure to listen to you reading his lines. Thank you. ❤❤
Thank you!!
The madness of Denethor chapter is my favourite in LOTR. Tolkein's tradegic/comedic writing is at its best here for me.
Now this is a man of quality.
Faramir: an example of healthy masculinity.
So far one of my fav videos of the Tolkien Lore..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 peace from Turkey🇹🇷

Excellent video as always Matt and always a pleasure to be in these playlists with likes of you ❤️
Faramir was one of the characters I wanted to have a happy ending the most. He was such a good character and I was so happy that he and Éowyn had a happy ending together.
Faramir was always my favorite character in the story. He got a lot of time in the movies, but I still don't think he got enough.
Brilliant video! Faramir's story is great and his personal virtues remind me of Hector, Breaker of Horses!
So glad you did a video on one of my all time favorite characters! Happy Tolkien Reading Day 💙
What a wonderful story FULL of things not known to myself. I love surprises and next time I watch the movies I will have a better perspective of the character of FARAMIR.
13:13 Lord of the Rings: The ANIME
And bloody glorious it is!!
Great job to both you and all the Tolkien loving RUclipsrs! From the words of bilbo baggins AKA the late Ian holms, “This shall be a night to remember.”
Can't argue with Faramir, he's a boss. A great selection well read!
I just finished the chapter when Faramir send Frodo, Sam and Gollum on there way, and he has become one of my favorite characters. They really did him dirty in the movies.
Great video once again, man. Boromir and Faramir are top-3 favourite characters of mine.
I absolutely love that they were so close to one another and not rivals. It really makes the death of Boromir all the more heartbreaking.
faramir gets one of the better endings. Plus, he gets the best woman in the entire story. a true chad
I love these so very much. Thank you. And thank Tolkien for what he gave us.
OMG Faramir Took is for reals adorable!!! Love that artwork.
Wonderful video, Nerd of the Rings! Happy Tolkien Reading Day!
