The Reverb video breaking down the Triton: • Ep25: Synth Sounds Of....

Thank you for giving Chad his flowers! Very much deserved!

@@drillcollins say it louder! 🇵🇭

Everybody gives Chad his flowers… Y’all are so weird on these comment sections about that.
@@GabeCerebro lol…okay. But it’s never enough, and you KNOW that. Fucc him then.
Pharrell is the pinacle for a producer's career. Influence the genre and make a name for yourself as both an artist and a taste-maker.
The Triton (moon) → Trident (weapon) → Triton (synth) parallel was lots of fun!
The dang algorithm picked a video I already watched. You know why? I WATCHED THEM ALL!
🏆🏆🏆
Teddy Riley has blessed us with not only some of the best Michael Jackson productions post-Quincy Jones but also putting the Neptunes on by featuring Pharrell on the drums to "Rump Shaker" and having him do the "S, the double, the U, V" chant on SWV's Human Nature mix to "Right Here" (tying back to Michael Jackson!)
Then when Chad Hugo came along they did SWV again for "Use Your Heart" and produced the Total and 112 collab "When Boy Meets Girl".
Also, Chad is featured as a saxophonist on the Jay-Z track "The City Is Mine", produced by Teddy Riley. It all comes full circle!
Think Pharrell also wrote Teddy's Rump Shaker verse, when he was only around 16-17!
All of this ..ur a head like me and know your history lol
Chad and him have been together since high school.
He didn't just come along.
They've been a thing for years.
I figured out the secret to The Neptunes sound a few years back, and it's purely down to their background in marching band. If you take the rhythms played on a snare / drum in band, and translate it to a chord or note on the triton, it'll sound like them. Take Justin Timberlake's - Like I Love You. The guitar on that is playing that marching band rhythm.
It's not just that, but interpolated a lot of 70s and 80s songs
interpolating 80s songs
You didn't have to whip out the Korg Triton like that. That's my old joint. I was so hyped when I first heard those sounds in there back in the day.
Super thug still goes so hard. It sounded like the future when it came out
Most Neptunes production has aged extremely well. They were definitely on another planet
That would've been The Trinity. The Triton wasn't out yet when that album dropped
Algo chose "The Earth Wind & Fire Song That Defined Their Sound"

Apparently most of us did get this suggestion. I am starting to doubt the usefulness of this "best for viewer" feature.
@@EdgarRoockespecially since i’ve watched that already… turns out the “almighty YT algorithm” is just a shitty script an intern probably wrote.
Yeah it did the same for me 😂
Real ones were here for the first upload... 👀
Copyright hitting again 👎
I was there. Cut out mid listen 😭
@@Techninjaspeaks I couldn't even comment first time I saw it lol. Guess the strike hit in the middle of watching it. I didn't think it was that bad unlike the biggie video. I knew that one was gonna get hit hard as much as he was having fun with that one
Dude the correlation between the mythological god Neptune and the Triton was not corny at all, you are the best 😁❤️
No one Ever Really Dies!
Still waiting on the Lupe Fiasco video you promised 😎
Yeah bro, we still waiting. It's almost 2025 ⌚
The Korg Triton was a whole movement!
The 4 beat intro more than likely came from percussively hitting the Locate button right next to play, which will replay the start.
Welcome back! MJ not using the material that P wrote for him and was later used by Justin Timberlake for Justified is one of the biggest musical hiccups in MJ’s musical career.
@@steve_santiago Justified was a banger
It certainly would have been MJ's comeback album, and maybe, just maybe, he'd still be with us.
11:38 The algorithm failed and pushed Earth Wind and Fire to me, but I have seen all the RUclips videos so it did what it could. Great intro into Pharrell and it is a shame he is primarily known for Happy.

I remember all the GOATS from the 90s pretty much used like only 4/5 machines.... And me being THE PRODUCTION NERD (no pun) I AM knew what each and every one of them was using.. if i remember correctly.
1. Premo : i think the early stuff was on a SP(1200) ...but all the memorable SHlT that are stapIes in the cuIture the MPC 60
2. MUGGS : the SP.
3. DRE : like Preem.. the early stuff with the SP then moved on to every varian of the MPC
4. Pete Rock : KING OF THE SP1200 (if you ask me) the sound he got SOLELY FROM THE SP without moving onto the MP(C) when he could've... Is unlike anyone else besides maybe MUGGS... for staying loyal to the sp as long as he did... knowing alot of my fav PR beats came from a limited SP. when he could've switched up and did so much more makes those beats just so much more special
5. ALCHEMIST : the ASR - 10 then evolved into the MP
6. Madlib : again the SP.. and the BOSS303.
7. TIMBALAND : THE KORG TRITON
8.. NEPTUNES : ..... obviously.. KORG TRITON
9. EVIDENCE : the ASR-10
10. RZA : The ASR- 10... and (or moved into) the SP1200,)
for the most part these were the integral producers that mattered the most with the music I was listening to in my day (the late 90s/ early 00s) ....and so with that said... there's of course MAD HONORABLE MENTIONS I probably forgot.... And to my original point.. there's what? I think 3 or 4 of the SAME MACHINES.. that what the world and the industry. Kinda crazy with all the different things we have available to us now...SOME OF THE WORLDS BEST PRODUCTION was done off these simple machines.
"Spray Can" to #1 the Detail What I never understood at the time. Another amazing and Inspiring Video 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Man. N.E.R.D. albums are so good and way underrated IMO. Neptunes just had a lock on late 90's early 00's hip hop. It was wild.
Provider is my favorite joint form NERD
the 4 count was def from the days of drumming. the drummer usually kicks off the sound like a metronome counting 1-2-3-4 which i can imagine really stuck with him
I was waiting for you to post! Another amazing video
it teed up the party livestream and congrats on 400k btw
I got "Earth, Wind & Fire: The Song that Defined Their Sound" as the recommended video.

Digging the Greats is back, sun is shining, and it’s a good day lmao
Been working on a couple big ones, just wait 🤫
Are we entering the Neptunes / Startrak era of your channel? OMG im gonna die ..lol ..I’ve been a Neptunes fan since 97..if u do an ep on unreleased stuff I’ll be happy 😂
Pharrell Williams wrote Teddy Riley's verse in the song 'Rump Shaker' by Wreckx-n-Effect.
I didn't know he was the producer on Rump Shaker by Wrecks In Effect /Teddy Riley until 2 decades later.
There are mixed stories on this - but he says he just wrote the verse on it
@diggingthegreats so there's more to it. Still, him being involved in any capacity was a surprise.
he wasn't. He just wrote the verse, he's said this in multiple interviews including his most recent one with Jimmy Fallon.
@@diggingthegreatsThis☝🏾He wrote Teddy's verse. He didn't produce the song as a teenager & still to yhis day has never claimed he did. He wrote Teddy's verse just like Ice Cube wrote verses for Eazy-E & Dre in NWA
Great essay! Also, the KORG Triton bit was good and funny. I'm glad you kept it!
I didn't know Chad and Pharrell aren't on speaking terms but they are legendary producers and I hope they get back together in the future because they have made dope music for so many artist in the industry. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
My favorite producers! Great vid!
5:06 2003, I began work on my first album back home in the Bahamas. The guy at the studio I was considering paying to produce my album had this triton. I, a skeptic, said “How good is this thing REALLY?” Without breaking eye contact with me, Z of S-Typz productions reached next to him, hit a couple buttons and sightlessly did exactly what is happening here, knocking out “Grindin’” one handed. He then did a few more recognizable riffs a la Chad Hugo.
Suffice it to say, the Triton & the Fantom defined an era. Mostly the Triton tho.
The eye contact 😆
Another great video by master Brandon!! keep em coming!!!
I know Pharrell and Chad from the song Rump Shaker, from Wrecks n Effects back in the late 1900s
I respect everything about this mans (RUclips host) knowledge, passion and respect for the hip hop culture. 💪🏾
Welcome back fam! I hope all i swell and thank you! For me RUclips suggested The Earth Wind and Fire video that inspired their sound!
Me too
Great breakdown but o wanted more lol. Congratulations on the 400K subscribers 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
4:35 NO! So NOT corny! Also, the Triton plugins are FIIIIIRE!
Yo
Been watching your videos for quite a while now and they’re super helpful!
Awesome job man! Congrats 🤘🏻
Btw
The video that popped off for me was the Earth Wind & Fire Soung that defined their Sound
💜
I’m so happy the triton era has passed 😂
Bro.... You are the DOPEST!
I have learned so many production techniques over the past few years just vibing to your videos. I visualize music, and you help 3-D my perspective 🙏🏿
Like I said, The DOPEST 💪🏿
The Neptunes are my all time favorite producers. Their music was my soundtrack as a kid growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s
Do not cut the Triton bit. Maybe find a different way of wording it but man that is coincidental GOLD. Love how the universe amuses itself.
He also wrote Teddy Riley’s rap verse on “rump shaker”
Great Episode, I Love Your Channel
Finally the KORG Triton gets the recognition it deserves on this channel
We need a digging the greats video on digging the greats. These videos have so much value
I have a triton, found one for 200 bucks off Facebook marketplace a couple of months ago and it’s been in use ever since 😎🙏🏽
1:35 Say his Name!! Chad Hugo!
You can really see his classical/concert band influences in songs like NERD - "Maybe". In the video too
Neptunes are the duo that got me into understanding music. I really hope P & Chad can get back to where they once were 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Pharrell himself is OK. The Neptunes were AMAZING.
Thank you for doing a VA producer....I hope you do the rest of them, their connections and the ties to DC and the unique music out of there
Yea you’re definitely one of the best music related RUclipsrs on this platform no joke. I’ve learned so much from you
I get your point about using the gear around them, but the Triton WAS a holy grail item back in the day at least to us, around $2,300 which is about $4,200 today. It wasn't cheap and it was THE hot item of the day. Ppl call CS80s and Jupiter 8s holy grail today, but in 1999 very few cared about that stuff. It was all about the Triton and MPC for awhile at least in urban pop. It didnt become a "just have it around" item until the Triton Extreme made it affordable and the amount of older ones built up. I didnt buy one untill a few years ago and it was $550 for an extreme 88. Soon after the plugin was released which is what ill use for triton sounds these days, but still the Triton Extreme 88 is an awesome controller. I wouldnt sample on it or load libraries anymore, but you could if you wanted a Triton beyond what the plugin can do.
The original Triton was so well known at the time it was current my tech support business card had one whole side being a tinted pink Triton. (the other side had a Mackie 8 buss) A Triton is what you had if you were serious, maybe a Roland JV2080 but less common. If you were around at the time, you know how often youd see this exact setup: Triton, Mpc, Mackie 8 buss. Youd see Pro Tools around some early but lots of ppl were still using Adats. Honorable mention to the Emu modules like the Orbit and Proteus(es) for that type of production but still way less than even the JV2080/1080.
We were waiting for this one🙌🙌
just watched piece by piece earlier today it was beautiful
The algorithm brought me to your Earth, Wind & Fire video
The NUMBER ONE Influence on the Neptunes' production style is a song called "Full Co-operation" by Def Squad, produced by Eric Sermon.
I'd never heard that song, after listening i can see how that might have inspired some of their sound post 1998. They were already active by 98 thou, building their iconic sound.... You should check out this song by Stevie Wonder "Never In Your Sun" ..It's from 1985 but the beat sounds like 2005 Neptunes.
The algorithm queued up “The Earth Wind and Fire Song That Defined Their Sound”
Same here
The algorithm gave me Earth Wind & Fire the song that defined their sound 🔥
0:41 - speaking of milkshake, JPEG mafia sampled it on Scaring the Hoes, and I think that would be an awesome album to break down!
Shout out to Korg for creating the Triton. That was one of the greatest creations ever
you got a tmbaland one yet? cause im here for that
Another sure shot video by our man on the decks. Great stuff and so sad that p and chad are fighting in court. We need more Neptunes and N.E.R.D. tunes!
The Neptunes and That Korg Triton is so much Nostalgia for me which is why i bought it in the Software VST form. would i get the hardware version? yes in a heart beat but id want it brand new and fresh out of the factory. it hurts me to see Chad and Pharrell not on speaking terms. Mp3's,Cds, the late 90's early 2000's, The internet, MTV, Lime wire, Kazaa, The Roller rinks, School Dances, Junior high and Highschool, 106 and Park, Fruity Loops, Playstation, Anime. those were the vibes. Kelis Kaleidoscope, Phillys most Wanted, T.I's Im Serious, Busta Rhymes Genesis, The Clipse Lord Willin had me Glued to Their beats.
I remember my Triton damn I miss it. It was a phenomenal piece of equipment
Dude, you gotta touch on Quincy Jones’ influence on hip hop behind the scenes.
"Hot In Here" also have DJ QUIK on keys.
Never realized the 4 count. 👀 Instant sub 😤
The key to success in the music industry as a producer is 90% connections, 10% music, we all know amazing producers who don’t have any success in the music industry because they don’t know the right people
Recommended the 400k subscriber party
Great Video Bro Thanks
Wooow what a video Everything that i need Thank YOU
I used to go to Sam Ash years ago after high school to learn how to play and the Triton was the 1st keyboard I ran to!!!!! I remember when it had the cd burner I think I still have the the original beat I tried making on there hahahaha and they had a Korg Oasys me and a few homies made a beat on as well.
The Earth Wind and Fire song that defined their Sound.
MOS DEF "Twilight Speedball"
Ludacris "Southern Hospitality"
Busta Rhymes "As i come back"
My favorite Pharrell productions
It pushed me to the 400k stream cause I’ve seen all your other vids 😎 guess I’m watching the playback 😂
Pharrell created the beats/music. Chad cleaned it up/mixed and mastered everything and added behind the scenes ideas. The two friends were legendary.
Chad Hugo did far more than just clean it up. Pharrell did the drums and songwriting but majority of the instrumentation was done by Chad.
@@Polostar79yeah bc you can tell the difference when Chad ain’t there
I always think about NERD ‘in search of’ album and how the laying of the production is well crafted. Maybe you should check how Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda do samples for Linkin Park.
Dope video as usual
Have you done a video on Timberland yet? I would like to to see it
Was going thru Neptunes production credits lastnight which lead me down a wicked Beanie Man wormhole. Man, Beanie Man is great, completely forgot about Bossman
Pharrell's singing voice always makes me think of Curtis Mayfield.
Pharrell Williams is extremely talented but his success is due to his mindset and the people around him. He came from a great music program in Virginia. Thanks for the video
Algorithm served your EW&F "Shining Star" video
Lol. the algorithm gave me the 400k livestream party.
This is good Luck bro you got 401k
Did somebody say Korg Triton
I would LOVE a video on Scott Storch!
I appreciate the Triton side quest
i heard pharrell is my cousin but i don't have contact with his side of my family. it would explain the career i ended up in & why we look so much alike.
Big algorithm just showed me the previous video...I was kinda hoping you were going to create a wall of video links though lol.
😂😂😂
Didn't know Pharrell and Chad weren't talking. Such a shame
Pharrell tried to claim ownership of The Neptunes name without consulting Chad. That sparked a lawsuit still going today.
@@Polostar79 Alledgely, we dont know whats really going on
My Mount Rushmore producers:
Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis
Babyface
David Foster
Jermaine Dupri
Chuck Brown - The Godfather of Go-Go 🔥
Recieved Earth Wind and fire as a suggestion 🤷🏼♂️ ❤
that 4 count is because he uses the ASR-10 to sequence
Pharrell is a goat, excited to see the Lego movie. Also, Thanks for the T-shirt, got it today!!!
His songs sound alike - I don't hear a range, but different strokes for different folks. Give me Quincy Jones, Daniel Lanois, and Teo Macero. A little Phil Spector and Nile Rodgers. Mix with Gamble & Huff and a splash of post (LA-Reid) Babyface.
Crazy, i never noticed that 4 count. It's like knowing someone's tell in a poker game
I still have my Korg Triton Classic….. and my MPC 2000XL
