Kanye gave the beat that would eventually be H To The Izzo to everyone including Coodie (Kanye Documentary on Netflix) and to me for a radio promo that was supposed to be rapped by Common with a hook by Carl Thomas. Also, while Kanye was giving away beats he’d already sold, he also gave the Jay-Z the beat and hook for the song Never Change (which was recorded by a Chicago artist named Payroll). Kanye was basically selling his soul and doing anything to get on including giving away another man’s ACTUAL SONG (Never Change) to Jay Z. The beat was done by Kanye but Payroll made the hook for Never Change and never got credit. Kanye got jumped for that in Chicago BY Payroll and Payroll got his leg broken by Kanye’s crew. Also, Brian All Day Miller produced Down And Out, Kanye just put his name on it to get All Day in the game (similar to what D Dot did with Kanye to get him in the game)
Something I didn’t know either was that “Down and Out” wasn’t produced by Kanye, he says it on the “Kanye’s Soul Mix Showdown” Mixtape. It was another producer entirely but they credited as him.
Great video. I've read somewhere that Kanye took inspiration from Dr Dre's Xxplosive for the drums for this beat and This Can't be Life by Jay & Scarface. They do sound similar.
Damn. Bink! has a lot to do with that Blueprint sound. Kanye and Justblaze are said to have followed his lead for that sound. I think Bink! was the first producer on that album.
That’s why Bink is always so aggy about this topic. He constantly never gets his credit, when he’s one of the best Hip-Hop & R&B producers ever to make it, and he’s from VA too.
He did the same thing with "Never Change". It was originally for a local Chicago rapper named Payroll (RIP Jason). It used to play on a local hip-hop station. You can find the original on RUclips. He ended up selling it to Jay-Z. I believe Payroll got a lil money after they beefed for a bit.. but yea

This video is great. Although there are a few things I would add... Ye didn't produce Down And Out. Brian Miller did. Ye did produce Dipset Forever, another song from the same Cam'ron album. Ye selling the Izzo beat to Hov eventually led into a feud between Hov and Cam'ron. And that wasn't even the only time Ye resold a beat. The beat for Never Change off of the Blueprint was originally for a Chicago rapper named Payroll. His song was out a whole year before Jay-Z's version. This led to another feud, this time with Ye and Payroll. That's all I can think of. Love your channel.
Fun fact about the beat for Cam’s “Down and Out” that we know and love: Though West received the sole producer credit for the track, he acknowledged that the beat was primarily produced by Brian "All Day" Miller.

I like what Kanye did with the Jackson 5 sample. He made it progressive, which made it feel not so sad. However, I don't really see it as a sample because he chopped out the digressive chords of the riffs. So if he had a musician play the riffs they way they were chopped, it would have been a completely original riff. Also, I could totally see this as a Cam'ron beat. It fits right in with the tracks on the Purple Hayze album, especially Down n' Out.
It wasn't mentioned in the video... But Just Blaze originally made the "Oh Boy" beat for Jay-Z, but when Cam'ron heard IZZO he took the "Oh Boy" beat from Just Blaze before he could give it to Jay.
Odd question, I'm making a indie movie. What are the best techniques when it comes to sampling? Were planning on samples classic art for the soundtrack but making it in a hip hop way where we sample it
Fact: Kanye lifted the backbeat/drums from Dr Dre’s XXplosive (1999) off of Chronic 2001. Interesting take I thought would be worth mention as the former song is then also sampled in Izzo.
You should honestly cover the Collision Course album if you haven't already. Some big name producer's beats were remixed by Linkin Park. 2 Kanye beats, 2 Timbaland beats. I mean Numb/Encore itself is a complete Numb sample flip, and it replays Kanye's drum pattern on a real kit.
