I’m the classic case for your video! I used to play an R11TP set at 9.5, Fujikura X flex shaft and hit bombs. 300 plus was easy and used to hack partners off driving par4’s then illness & injury struck my distances dropped markedly but I kept my set up CONVINCED the bombs would come back then I got fitted by my club pro into a Titleist TS3. Softer shaft (hzrdus stiff) and 11 deg of loft (women’s driver loft) but spin at 2400 and 99% of distance back! I’m a CONVERT!
I got fitted with a 12 degrees driver this year. I was out on the range testing it a few days ago. The ball flight was great. Better distance than before and hitting it more consistent than with my older 10.5 degree driver.
Interesting vid Lee, when I get fitted for a driver, I normally get fitted into a 9deg head with the loft cranked up a deg which closes the face slightly. This usually gives me my optimum launch numbers. Though I did get "fitted" at a Golf Outlet store many years ago and the "fitter" (I use the term very loosely) tried to get me in a driver with a 13deg head, the ball was launching into orbit!!!!!!!
So many people get adjusting the head wrong. In the first 1:20 of this video…you state what most people do not know and don’t unfortunately do not understand about adjusting their driver. I’m a 5 hcp and I have had every driver you can possibly imagine. Hitting stealth now. Std loft. If I turn it down I hit push fades…if I turn it up I hit draws/hooks. I have to have the std setting to get nuetral ball flight. If I want more or less loft I need a new head with lower or more loft. If you fade the ball you can adjust the head up in loft which will close the face and minimize a fade: likewise if you draw/hook the ball…lower the loft and open it up and it will reduce the draw. When you do these things they will affect your distance as well. Example: if you play a fade….a 10.5 head turned up to 12.5 to close the face and you play a fade…you will drop distance. You could go into a 8 or 9 degree head then turn it up to 10 or 11 degrees loft and then play a fade and give you better numbers for distance. U need to do all this on a trackman to see or old school on a course and hit different marked balls and check ball flight and distance. Tweak and repeat over and over u til you are dialed in.
@@brotherbread6549 lowering loft opens the face. Example. Standard loft is 10.5…if you adjust down to 9.5 you will open the face angle. If you increase loft it will close the face angle. 10.5 increased up to 11.5 it will close it. Depending on which brand of loft sleeve u are using…lie angle will also affected up or down will can affect start line of the ball. Taylormade has a single adjustment sleeve for the head. You can move it 2 degrees up or down in loft. Their sleeve can open or close the face 4 degrees and lie angle is increased or decreased accordingly. Just search google for like a stealth or qi10 adjustment chart and you can see how it works…titleist as well has a chart for their adjustments of drivers, fairways, and hybrids. Callaway as well…And they all do work and affect ball flight.
Even as a slower swing speed,, get more distance with lower because of the run out,, but in winter go higher for more carry,, often carry 2 drivers a 8or9,,and 11or 12 great ploy in match games,, cheers Alan 🤔😂😎
I was playing a 10.5° Driver but swapped to a 12° Ping after a fitting, I'm actually hitting it further because I'm getting more air time as I'm launching it better
I fully understand the optimal theory and everyone needs to go on a launch monitor to find theirs. For me it gets tricky when we're constantly told to hit up with driver! If like me, approaching 60 and speed has been lost what is best, hit up and take spin off or add loft with more spin!!! I'm confused 🤪
Hello there, interesting vid, been playing about with shaft length and stiffness. I have a shorter shaft (1.5 inch) and very stiff, only use when feeling strong and quick, always know what it’s going to do, increase the loft and it works for 250-270 yards. I have a regular full length, messed about with loft to 11.25 today and overall distance was 3 yards short of 300 on one of my drives that I took the time to measure. I’m a right to left ball flight and this does increase my hook when not hitting well so likely back to 10.5 for me
As always Lee, great video, something to consider with a fitting, I have a 10.5 cheap driver at the moment, I gave away my old Ping eye 2 driver away (silly me) but still got my ping eye 2 3,5,7, wood which I still hit fairly well, but I will be getting a fitting.
We as golfers have to stop this macho thinking about distance and that we need to play a 7.5 * driver, longer shafts etc... Your videos get to the truth and your explanations are spot on. I play mine at 11* and hit it plenty long. Thanks and congratulations on 6K+ and climbing.
Lee, congrats on 6000 subs. I have a very slow swing speed he put me in a 9.5 degree driver but adjusted to 10.5 degrees. He did this to give me a more favorable face angle compared to a standard 10.5 degree driver.
Using an old R15 driver with 14* loft which I lowered to 12 with the shaft adjustment, and I only noticed a small lowering of flight and a few more yards in total distance. Accuracy was similar, and much much more dependent on me not the club. I get 15* launch angle with 100 feet peak height.
Is it correct that if you increase the loft of a driver, on the adapter, than the face closes? So for a slicer the higher loft would help. The problem is most utube videos are made by professionals and most of us are no where near that level
Thanks for this. I just put my 10 degree driver up to 11.5 and I'm now carrying it 220 instead of 205 yards. I swing around 90-96 mph. Any ball you'd advise to use for this loft and speed?
You say for lower swing speeds use a more lofted driver, what do you class as a lower swing speed, mine is between 96 and 102 depending how good the body is 👍
I was expecting more distance from the higher lofted clubs following your intro? I’ve just picked up a 10.5 Sim Max to hopefully replace my M2 9. I’m not so sure it’ll work now? Watch this space! 🤞
If it makes anyone feel better, Dustin Johnson plays an 11 degree driver. If you watch Trottie Golf's RUclips channel he takes the hosel and gives it a tweak on the lie machine.
Am interested in this as well. I have using the M2 10.5 Driver, I currently have it lofted down to 9.25 or 9.5 (cannot quite remember). Recently been getting a bit more ball speed (120-130). When I did have it in 10.5, I really did see, what I thought was to high ball flight, and the reason for lofting down. On the M2, does lowering the loft open or close the face? Think I may need to put it back to 10.5 and see what happens
It’s like a lot of things lee it is always dependent on how you swing as amateurs we struggle to keep the swing the same but I should imagine you go on averages when fitting
I would prefer to see a comparison using dynamic loft rather than static loft. Physics tells us that 85% of launch angle is determined by dynamic loft and just 15% by attack angle. I think there is generally too much emphasis on static loft and attack angle.
Used to play a 9* driver until last year I'm now in a 10.5 and my accuracy is much better so loft can be your friend. I've tried these low spin drivers but just can't get the consistency and accuracy with them at all
@@LWG I had the epic and then mavrik sub zero..yes when you caught one they flew but more than often i ended up playing from the trees. Getting close to the 29th now Lee and time to see what my new cleveland hb turbo driver and 3 wood can do for me 👌

Loft and spin for slower swing speeds. But you should always hit up on driver.
Isn't there a danger that too much launch and spin just ends up stalling?
@@Keef1664 every swing speed has an optimal spin and launch etc. Your fitter should try and get you into that window

What would you recommend for a 70 to 75 mph swing. Senior golfer
That information helped me out.
Cool! Higher loft also turns fades into draws?
Great argument for fitting to personal swing instead of buying on the basis of simplistic Newtonian physics.
Ian, Big thumbs up, I never thought that I would ever read "simplistic Newtonian physics" in a comment to a YT vid. Respect👍

Im a 85mph older swinger.
Play cobra 12,5°, strait but short distance.
Vill test Callaway XR 9° on friday, will ball go shorter or longer?
Lee by the way your new channel is cracking mate really enjoying it so relatable to us as mid high low cappers cheers keep it up
Thanks 👍 glad your enjoying it
What’s your left to right dispersion with each? The higher loft is a little shorter but by far the most accurate 🤔
11 was the most accurate. It’s the lines behind my head on the screen
@@LWG the green dispersion circle looks to be the largest of all 3?
Can you do same test swinging around 90mph?
You singularly failed to mention dispersion for the 3 heads, the 13 degree (while a little shorter) seemed way tighter on dispersion ?
what is your swing speed to compare?
Average 113-115
Very interesting, but u seemed to have more consistency with higher loft, think the x flex robbing at that ball speed
did you mention what your swing speed is?
Lee, can we take it that the 9 degree was 'most optimum' for your swing speed and characteristics from these numbers?

My issue with loft tends to cause me to draw the ball more. Most drivers if I raise the loft it closes the face on the driver at address.
Many seniors with slower swing speeds could certainly benefit from a 12 to 13 degree driver. Probably less danger of a hook or slice too.
I have been saying that for years.

*Excellent*
my 8 degrees is too low for my swing speed but if I crank it up I duck-hook it viciously, I will settle for weak drives followed by hitting a mile with an occasionally pure shot
Because adding loft closes the face. It’s the wrong head. You need a higher lofted head
Interestingly the higher the loft the more your ball flight changed from fade to draw
You hooked the 13 like crazy. If you could hit target with the 13 youd have had way more spin because it wasn't a pull hook
And here all this time people having been telling me that LOFT stands for Lack of F*****g Talent. 😃
😂😂
Perhaps having a “Average” player hit and see the results. Having a scratch golfer hit a 12 degree loft is not helpful to this old man. good luck!
The problem is, it’s not just the head. The shaft is the engine for a reason.
I was expecting more loft to have a straight ball...that wasn’t the case.
swing like a monkey it doesn't matter 😂 I found the 11 straighter
Whats the difference between 9, 11 & 13 degree driver lofts? Erm...2 degrees, and erm....2 degrees. 😉

None any good need different shaft
Need a different swing 😂
