Good luck finding a fitter that doesn't throw you into a box just based on swing speed.

Just got a Cleveland XL launch couldn’t get off the tee box. Adjusted the loft on it and now I’m bombing. Does make a massive difference.

Great advice! When I first started out as a newbie three years ago, I didn't give much thought to the loft of my M2 driver, which was set at 12 degrees. I remember feeling frustrated as I consistently hit high and wide shots. It finally dawned on me that the combination of a high loft and a lightweight shaft (only 53g) was a disaster for my swing. Additionally, the club was a quarter inch shorter than standard, compounding the issues. I recently sold it and now I'm actively educating myself about these factors while searching for a new driver.
Being a beginner, it's tough because you lack knowledge and consistency to even understand what you truly need in a driver. That's what makes the process challenging. Looking back, there are so many things I wish I knew back then. #thingsiwishiknew

Thank you for a helpful, very interesting video.
You also need a reliable fitter.
I have had some good fittings & also had so called pros only interested in making a sale & easy money.
I now take care to go to a conscientious, reliable fitter.

Used to be if you bought a premium driver you got fitted for it free, now they charge big bucks for a fitting a waste of time.

The other thing to look at is the attack angle with the driver, my son who has a good swing speed was moved from a 10 degree to a 12 degree because he had a slight upswing and that maximized his dispersion and is getting 280-290 yards with the added height on the drives.

Thing to keep in mind, years back companies were selling things labeled 9deg because it sold better, when they were actually 11-12 degree drivers.

To be honest when there's no shot tracers or GC Quad numbers it takes the good out of it, other than that love your stuff.

I bought a new driver (well, second hand) last summer and it had a Project X 5.5 shaft, which is regular (in woods, in irons it'd be "semi stiff"). I've been using stiff shaft (~100mph clud head and quite aggressive downswing) and when I went to driving range to try it out it took me a while to find out how to hit with it. I had to hit a lot smoother to get it work like it's supposed to, but it was also surprisingly easy 😂. Found a used stiff shaft for it though, as it was a hit or miss with the reg one (well, even more than usually 😁).

Yeah, we get no love. I can hit carry of 210, but maybe roll 1 or 2 more yards. Went to Austin, TX a few months ago and they turned into 240-280 yd drives with all the roll out after.

Fitting is worth it, I was fitted for irons, local shop old guy came back said nothing suprising your a ping black dot..but while your here lets try a driver....I was thinking a 9 degree..he came back said go to a 10-10.5 had me bring in my driver adjusted it and my shots are so much better now. I was amazed at the difference of one degree

Even though I'm still a beginner with an inconsistent swing, I really want to try to get fitted. It seems like a static fitting to see my tempo, lie, loft, and swing speed would help a little in narrowing down what clubs might be better for me. It may not be a perfect fitting, but it would be a start. Great video, very helpful.

There was a Wilson rep at my local golf course who came out to the driving range with all of Wilson's line up. You could "borrow" a club from him and use it on the range. I borrowed a Wilson Dynapower Titanium 10.5 degree driver and it kept hitting balls that started out straight but then curved to the right. (which was normal for me). The Wilson guy was watching me (with his personal club) and eventually said, "Come here, let me see that a sec." He took the club (his) and some sort of tool and did something to the head, and then gave it back to me, saying, "Now try it." I hit another 30 or so balls and most of them went straight, and pretty consistently 220 yards. I asked him what in the world he did to the driver, and he replied, "I tweeked it up to 1+, which helped to keep your ball to the left more and stop curving off to the right." I ordered an exact copy of his and have used it the past four months. It is now giving me 220-240 yards pretty consistently, and an occassional 260 yards. In other words, I am suggesting you look for club reps who set up at a course's driving range and let you try out their various clubs. In addition to being a Wilson sales rep, he told me that he was a professional caddy, which would explain how he could watch me and figure out which club (and "tweek") would give me the best results on a real course.

New trend is less loft. Hit up 5 degrees, use less loft, get lower spin and higher smash factor. I only swing it low 90s and am maxed out using 9.25 degree driver.

  • @Jeffrey2323
    @Jeffrey2323 2 месяца назад

For older golfers with less swing speeds, a 12 degree driver is ideal. More loft , not less.

As a general rule, you want the driver, shaft combination that has the most carry distance. Ground conditions can vary but carry distance will be consistent.

There is often an assumption that all high or mid handicappers are the same. They need help getting ball in air so go for higher lifted driver etc. I am a mid handicap and I’ve always struggled with the opposite- I balloon driver and hybrids etc - my fitting has me on a G430 Max 9 degree. I also tee up lower than most to ensure I keep my launch angle lower and maximise distance as a result.
Most fitters I went to prior just wanted me on a 10.5 or 12 as the 9 degree is for the ‘better players’. Load of crap - maybe it’s the most common result, but it’s not exclusive.
I never trust a fitter now unless they spend good time getting to know my swing and my game first - and I expect them to work through the full range with me not just what they pigeonhole me into based on a handicap number.
Unfortunately the vast majority of my fitting experiences have been massively negative due to the above. Same with lessons to be honest - coaches who only coach one way to grip, stand, swing etc with no ability to adapt to the individual and their unique characteristics.
So be wary when people on you tube say - get fitted!! Get lessons!! These things are only worth anything when the person doing it is excellent. And again my experiences and those of friends tell me that these good coaches/fitters are in the minority. Buying if rack is as good if not better than getting fitted with people who do it wrong.
