    Hardcore Marvel fan Here
DC Rebirth is amazing. Marvel as it stands today is pure trash
    -Amazing Spider-man is BORING
-All New All Different Avengers... is just there.
    -Invincible Iron man is meh
-The Totally awesome Hulk is irrelevant
    -International Iron man is boring
    -Mighty Thor is an insult
-All the X-men books are just convoluted and confusing.
-Civil War II Has fantastic art yet the premise is just so utterly retarded that it's hard to enjoy. So many people acting out of character. Fighting over dumbshit.
And theses are marvel supposedly flagship titles
    The only good ones are
    Luke cage and Iron Fist
    Vision
Spider-man(miles Morales)(honestly this book is what Amazing Spider-man SHOULD be)
    Black Widow(So I've heard)
    Khamala Khan(So I've heard)
There are a select few other gems(that I can't remember), but NONE of them are the flagship titles, which is a giant problem.
Almost EVERYTHING I've read in DC:Rebirth is great. Especially the Superman books(Superman is cool again btw)

Man, Marvel is going through hard times. Their stories are so bad right now and I'm saying it as Marvel fan.
All x-men and Inhumans books are boring and tasteless...
only ones I like are Ultimates, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, Deadpool ( even though it's getting boring to see him ONLY suffer, it was cool some time ago but seeing your favorite character suffer non stop can get frustrating and it comes from Joe Kelly's fan. Joe Kelly made Wade suffer A LOT but he knew when to stop)
I heard that Vision is good
Uncanny Avengers isn't that bad either
Old Man Logan is action packed masterpiece
Captain America Steve Rogers could be good but it is so slow... the story has potential but man... it's really slow
      EDIT
      I forgot about few
      Moon Knight is excellent
      Daredevil is also cool

Disagree about The Mighty Thor and Invincible Iron Man. Imo, the Mighty Thor is one of the best comics written today from Marvel or DC. I would argue most of Marvel's comics are good or great, but the negative reaction to Civil War II seems to dictate readers perception of Marvel comics in general. I collected most of the Rebirth one-shots and #1s', but I only kept Aquaman and Superman on my pull list because the others fell flat for me.

DC rebirth is fixing things in the DC comics now all they need have cyborg remember that he was once a teen titan

    • @Kekkersboy
      @Kekkersboy 8 лет назад

Doubt they're going to do that. The timeline is screwed up since they have Dick Grayson and the other members of the titans far too old for Cyborg to have been one of them.

I never read a comic in my life, however I knew pretty much every major character in the DC Universe from animations or movies, but I never tried to read comics up until Rebirth, because it was kinda intimidating.
Batman Rebirth was the first comic I have ever read and I absolutely love it. Since then I have read several Batman comics from the 90-00s and looked into almost all the other Rebirth series.
Seriously I can't believe that I never tried to read comic before that, but maybe it was Rebirth itself that kinda got me in the first place, so yeah, DC did probably everything right, when they started Rebirth, because now they have a new hardcore reader.

I completely resonate with that too...plus the inclusion of The Watchmen was all the more reason for me to stick around for 2 years for the build up to the current on going run of the Doomsday Clock event but during the 2 years came around Dark Knights metal which was amazing that has now led into the No Justice story line which is a really good read right now

    Marvel fanboy here:
Marvel is relying on attention grabbing, troll-heavy, gimmicks while DC is going back to what made it great. Marvel is continually alienating it's loyal fan base in order to appease some sort of political agenda. And I am saying this as a Black man. marvel has been terrible since Original Sin. It all started the moment Nick Fury depowered Thor with a phrase that TO THIS VERY FUCKING DAY, readers have no idea what was said. Any Marvel fan will tell you since that event, Marvel has changed on a fundamental level. Instead of making stories for the fans, they are making stories that try to get high scores by reviewers. It's tiring and sad. DC Rebirth is the most fun I've had with comics in awhile

    • @reefa2931
      @reefa2931 8 лет назад +8

I almost want to say it's a good thing that DC's movies (since Green Lantern) have been so sub-par. It helps them focus on making great stories. Marvel's riding the high of their movie success. Remember that time everything started to be like the movies? Like the Chitari being in the main Marvel Universe when they actually made their first appearance in the Ultimate Universe as Ultimate versions of the Skrulls?

    • @RaithSienar
      @RaithSienar 8 лет назад +16

I blame the MCU for 90% of Marvel's problems right now. Seriously I want their fucking movies and TV shows to die already so that they have to actually attempt to appeal to COMIC BOOK readers again instead of making all their fucking money off of the casual movie/TV audience.
Seriously, if they didn't have that huge influx of cash all the stupid shit that is happening that is making us not buy their comics wouldn't be happening right now, or at least they would be making moves to correct it.

I'm a fan of Marvel & DC. I grew up on DC shows, be it Batman '66 or Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman or Super Friends, but I tended to gravitate towards Marvel shows in the 90's because it wasn't something I was used to. To me, the MCU is what DC already had when I was growing up. Which is depth, consequences, and a connection to the characters and the world that they live in. Marvel fans who got into it because of the MCU often don't know DC's cinematic history and tend to judge it based on the last few movies. Which is sad given that DC has 4 shows on the CW that are rather good while Marvel has some real quality issues with their 4 shows.
DC's core characters are evergreen as far as fictional characters go. They're well on their way to being a century old and yet their stories are still relevant today. Marvel's characters are very much a product of the era that they were created in and that has led to some problems. Yes, Fox owns the rights to the Fantastic Four and that is a big reason why they have been removed from the comic book landscape. But they are also an old team whose significant acts have largely taken place in brandwide meta-events. The X-Men are a bit better at changing with the times but I feel like the weight of 90's nostalgia has stalled progress for many of the main characters. DC's secrets to success are simplicity in character origins, focusing more on events in individual books rather than meta-events, and actually caring if readers can follow the story or not.

As an aside, I go to my local comic store every week to play Magic & D&D. I only buy comics once a month because there is no rush for me, as I am the only one in my social group to read the books that I do. I'm currently reading Silk, Extraordinary X-Men, and Civil War 2 & I read Saga in trade paperbacks.

I have decided to jump ship to DC comics now. Re-Birth has been WAY better written and actually works to fix continuity and have respect for the hardcore and casual fans. Marvel's ANAD crap has really disappointed me as a new comic reader. So much emphasis on shock value, faux progressiveness, disregard for continuity, shoddy writing and just pointless re-issuing of comics and stupid event after events. However, with continuing slump in sales, they WILL have their own "Re-Birth"

But now it feels like anyone from anonymous could do the Job. Not to mention i got sick of her being re-victimized by reliving the killing joke over and over and over again. Killing Joke being a book that Alan Moore never meant to be cannon in the first place. So giving Barbara back the mantle of Batgirl was one of thing about the new52 that i actually liked.

Come on man. There is no comparing X-Men and Batman: the Animated Series. I love both, but Batman was a very mature show. I went back and re-watched many of those episodes recently and they STILL hold up. The acting, the art, the sound design, the plots. They age very well not only with the viewer but also with the times. X-Men, however, does not age so well. I still enjoy it, but nostalgia is what helps me enjoy it mostly. Batman, doesn't require nostalgia, that's how well made it is.

The whole taking DC's side or Marvel's side is pretty stupid, pretty much every major writer and artist has worked for both companies, so to say that one company produces quality content and the other doesn't is bullshit. If you're boycotting either Marvel or DC, you're doing yourself a disservice as a superhero fan because both companies have produced great stories, although each company has their periods of greatness and decline.

I can see why older fans didn't like New 52 as much but Fans like me where introduced through the new 52 because before N52 I was like 8 and was a big Batman fan then my Mom brought me to a comic store which when we went there The N52 was like 2 months old and it opened the door for me and got me all in to Comics because everything restarted and made it easy for us new fans. I will always remember getting my very first Comics which where Batman: Court Of Owls & City Of Owls. My point here is that the N52 wasn't bad for DC it was good because it brought in a lot of new fans. Making Rebirth an amazing idea because it brought the new and old DC fans together.

Rob, you and the content you make is what got me reading comics. I was one of those kids growing up in the 90's, watching all those cartoons, I enjoyed them but not enough to read the comics, as I got older I leaned more towards the anime and manga market. However all this content you released has gotten me wanting to know more. Now I'm a huge aquaman fan and a punisher fan, just wish there was an actual comic store near me... slim pickings at my local book store, mostly amazon shopping for me.
Thanks for introducing me to all these great stories.

Born in '86, when I was 5 I started playing soccer. My first team was named the Super Heroes, and we got to pick what super hero we wanted to be. I knew who Batman and Superman were but not much else. It was my turn to pick a name off a list but the coach said "Oh, your dad already picked yours." My dad ran track and cross country, and I always knew he was a Batman fan. I asked him who he picked, and I guess the coach told the parents beforehand because he pulled out a Flash comic book. After that the Flash name stuck to me until he passed away. But after that moment, I've never stopped loving comic books. Thank you Rob for these and thank you dad for bringing me into comics.

Rebirth has brought me in from being a casual reader into being a very serious reader. The Death of Superman was my first comic book and when I walked in to the store on one of those few months, I did decide to see what Superman was up to. It was like opening the book to find out a friend was alright, and then they started webbing the DC world together, pushing me into all these other stories just to see how /everyone/ is. It's no longer a comic book about this character or that team, but now it's how those concepts and ideas relate to the superheroic world as a whole.

  • @JR-dd4ec

What Rob said is the exact reason the DC films are garbage. Superman kills Zod? Really? That's not my Superman. I don't know who Batman is either. What is great about both of them is that they don't KILL. At their core, Superman and Batman are very alike and we have seen this over the years. DC needs a rebirth with their movies. I prefer marvel than DC, but whatever direction marvel is going isn't a good one. GJ is the man and that is why DC is hitting the mark right now.

    • @allenwilson3329

+tdtellem As someone that is fan of Post-Crisis Superman (mostly because i think that he is the perfect combination beetween the Golden and Silver Age elements of the charather) and never feel strongly about New 52 Superman either way (didn't love it or hate it), i think than his problem was mostly inconsisten charaterization, some times writers try to play the angle of younger and troubled man, other try to make him more similar to his Post Crisis version (mainly Johns and Greg Pak) and basically suffer for a lack of direction in the first 2 years. to the point when he was starting to be more similar to the version than people love, they just didn't care to much about him anymore, then the "Truth" storyarc and ther return of the classic version that people miss, kind of sealed his fate.

What got me into comics was the 1991 Impel Cards. I was a High School Freshman back then. I could only buy the poorly printed bootleg cards, because I couldn't afford the legit ones and on one in my area was selling legit Marvel Impel cards. Some of my classmates and friends got into comics with my collection cards. During class hours when time was slow, they would pass around the cards and read in information on the back of the cards. Some even started drawing the Marvel Characters.

I got into comics through my father. He was into collectables of many kinds and having nothing to do with the "comics boom" he had tons of comics(including western, sci-fi, and even romance titles) going all the way back to the 60s. He used to tell me when he found out my mother was having a boy he ran out and started buying all the current Superman titles for me. Growing up he would surprise me every few weeks with a small bundle of issues, I had every issue of all 4 titles of Superman(action, adventure, Superman and MoS) from 84 up til I stopped buying them myself in 97 during the whole electric blue/red bs. I actually taught myself how to read on those comics at the age of 3. I also collected a handful of Marvel titles as well(a few Spiderman, Peter Parker was my favorite title. Cap, X-Men FF and some others).
And to DEFINITIVELY answer your question Rob, it's Batman TAS hands down because the level of seriousness and legitimate drama it was so full of. Not to mention that now iconic art deco, modern/classic style of Bruce Tim. That show changed a whole industry and the way the company would handle animation forever.
X-Men was brilliant, and made excellent use of canon stories to adapt for the average kid without a clue, and Spiderman TAS was great as well, but neither could have pulled off a prime time premier and be held as serious dramatic viewing.

Rob, your exactly right about DC Rebirth and it's impact on new readers. As a young kid, I always wanted to read comic books but I couldn't (no money). I loved almost every comic book show, video game and movie, even if they were terrible, just because I was so interested in their world. But because they weren't so accessible in terms of story, I didn't get into buying comics even when I had the money. Then New 52 came out.
It cheated me out of the magic of these characters and their journeys and developments, so I rejected it almost as if I was a hardcore fan. DC Rebirth, not only got me into reading comics for the first time in my life, but I can still now read some of the older stories, knowing they actually still mean something.

As a kid I saw most Marvel/DC shows growing up but what got me to read comic books was after I saw Planet Hulk the movie. I read most of Hulks comics afterwards, World War Hulk being my favorite. He is my all time favorite character from Marvel and Batman from DC.

I was introduced to Comic books by my cousin, Tito. Every week he'll go to the comic book store and bring this comics and show them to me. I was fascinated by this. Then he was collecting trading cards from comic book characters and they were so cool. I no longer wanted to collect sports trading cards. I Just wanted to collect comic books and superhero trading cards. And to this day I still love this. I love comic books and the movies are doing so well now! Is a dream come true 😁

For me it was the Capcom fighting games in the mid to late-'90s which laid the foundation and then the early X Men movies which got me into Marvel lore. It's been a real treat these last few years with the MCU films :)

first intro to Comics was TV shows: Wonder Woman, Hulk, (Greatest American Hero), Adam West Batman reruns. X-Men cartoon got me reading the books regularly - related to their mutations as I went through puberty earlier than kids in my class. B:TAS was quality, engaged my highbrow interests.

Rob, please do more videos like this! It was really refreshing. Honestly I feel kind of bad about being a casual fan, but because of you making these videos I feel more in-between and slowly gravitating to being more of a hardcore fan., Thank you, bruh.

Batman Was a better show because of the retro 1930's-1940's style mixed with 1990's tech

I cannot say enough positive about your videos. I teach a Superheroes class at my college and I tell them to watch your videos if they have questions. Also, you hit the nail on the head with hardcore fans. I wish you would do a video on what Marvel is doing wrong by stripping all their major characters and changing them to new ones. Hydra Cap was the last straw for me. I cancelled all my Marvel subscriptions and only read DC now because those characters still resonate with me. I have been reading comics for 40+ years and I don't know Marvel anymore.

I watched most comicbook cartoon that came out in the 90s, but the one cartoon that got me into reading comics was Justice League/Unlimited. That show is absolutely amazing and my favorite cartoon series ever.
