- Riding my Triumph Bonneville T120 over Snake Pass in the Peak District.
4.30am saw me quietly wheeling the T120 down my street so as not wake my neighbours by starting it up, good job I live just off a very steep hill.
Snake Pass is one of the better known 'biker' roads in the Peak District; and for good reason. Fast sweeping bends and stunning scenery await anyone journeying on the road between Manchester and Sheffield, it's definitely on the 'must ride' list for any motorcyclist.
But what's less well known is a small road leading off Snake Pass on the east end, just after Ladybower Reservoir, called Mortimer Road. Follow this winding lane towards Langsett Reservoir and you'll be rewarded with quite possibly one of the best roads in the north of England.
It's brilliant.

Beautiful, almost spiritual this one, right up until the good old British weather decided it needed a cameo appearance at the end…… love all the angles that you get for your on bike shots, particularly the through the wheel and the forward facing view from the rear going through the bends, emphasises the lean angles nicely…

@@ClassicRides Triumph's massive marketing budget doesn't come close to how your videos capture the feeling of riding a motorcycle. They speak to me a lot. A relaxed solo ride is how I escape, de-stress, think etc.

There's something really peaceful but also surreal about riding a known road in early morning. Colors and shadows are different and it's just... odd, I guess. In a good way.

This is the first video I've found of yours, and it's pretty much the best biking vid I've ever seen. Beautifully done. Setting up all the shots when you were leaving in the morning must've taken ages.

Wow beautiful footage- it must be a painstaking process! Do you ever just get out and ride without filming? I have a 2020 T120 Black and it is just a beautiful ride… today after work is wash day which gives me a perfect excuse afterward to take it out and ride the countryside… cheers.
Glad you enjoyed the video and yes, I try to make sure I go out without any camera gear every other ride just to enjoy it, although our recent wet weather’s making it quite hard to do. I hope you enjoyed your ride today and stayed dry wherever you are!
I've ridden Snake Pass many times down to Derwent water thinking of what it must have been like when the Dambuster's carried out there practice runs! We would often call at at cafe in Glossop not far from the main traffic lights as I recall it was run by an Italian family who provided a good breakfast and mug of tea. Good days!
Apparently the Air Force still use the dams for pilot practice, I’d love to see that one day! There’s still a good few cafes to park up and get a brew at in Glossip if you’re ever back round this way.
Beautiful as always. Nothing like settling down and watching a chilled 'Classic Rides' short film. Such a shame about the weather at the end, but it does provide some further depth to the film. Love the camera angles, the drone shots, etc., etc. I really need to go out on my T120 and take my camera gear and drone, and get some similar footage. Not sure I can beat your quality though. Keep it up! Ride safe! 👍

Nice video. We went for a run over the Snake not so long ago on the Speedmaster. Beautiful scenery. For me, though, they really need to do something about the atrocious potholes, especially at the Glossop end.
I agree with you there! For me Snake Pass is fun, but Mortimer Road is the real reason for being in the area.

Hello; good Morning; very possible that you had this question before but I did not found it. Is about the flyscreen. Really cut the wind? or send the wind to your face or helmet? Remove the wind that go to the chest area? I have older T140s and a 49 500. Thanks. Cheers
Hi, I think much depends on your height, but for me I smooths the airflow out more than stops it. But it’s very comfortable up to about 80mph, after that the wind is too strong to keep the speed up for very long.
Taking a chance, coasting downhill like that before starting the engine. If it hadn't started, that would have been a tough push to get her back up. Lovely video, beautiful scenery. Nice riding. What the heck happened right at the end? It gave the impression that the bike and rider fell into giant pothole full of water. Very weird!
Just a sudden downpour and a flooded road at the end, which happened to be the end of my filming for the day. Also my bike is pretty well looked after so there’s no reason for it not to start, but that hill is much steeper than it looks in the video so there’s no chance I could push it back up if it didn’t 😁

Great video, you really do a classy job, shame about the rain, I was caught in it as well during my motorcycle lesson the other day, but I have a question about your rear number plate, is it legal or is it a calculated risk? I've got my eye on a T120 for when I pass (everything crossed) and didn't even realise you could still get the classic black and silver ones. They look proper cool and in keeping with the style of the bike
Hi CarrotMonster 😁 (great name!), no my plate isn’t legal, but I think because it suits the bike and doesn’t look out of place I’ve never had any trouble from the police. Obviously for the MOT the yellow plate and reflector need to go back on, but otherwise I think as long as you don’t give the police a proper reason to pull you over, they won’t bother with the plate. Unless it’s the start of riding season in April when they go out and purposely target things like illegal plates.
Are the exhaust stock ? They just have a great sound wonderful. And the music is always amazing.
They’re the Vance & Hines upgrade exhausts from stock, the have a great low rumble to them which I really like.

They’re the V&H pipes, not much louder than the standard pipes to be fair. But it was still very early and I don’t hate my neighbours that much 😁
