    Ashlee - brilliant, thank you. Currently teaching online inclusion classes with teacher educators in Myanmar, after being evacuated. One of my students took part in a class whilst on a bus and another took part whilst they were driving to work (passenger). It’s challenging but wonderful. Thanks again - your energy gave me food for thoughts and made me realise I need to up my game 🤓

I'm so glad you find them helpful and also supportive :) We all need that right as teachers and that's really how I work with my students as well...creating a supportive and safe atmosphere so they feel comfortable to take risks in class. Thanks so much for comment. Regarding software for digital sheet music, have seen the video I did about cutting sheet music? In that one I literally just use the preview mode on my MAC computer when I open up the pdf to make cuts or edits. Other than that, are you meaning software to purchase sheet music or find songs? Let me know and I'll be happy to make a video if that helps!

    Great video. Very practical and very inspiring. I am working on setting up my teaching space so this is great. I was wondering about how you created the multiple camera angle view points you present. Do you use the laptop webcam for up close and a secondary camera for the further away view ?? How do you integrate these angles together --- is it just by recording separate clips and then editing them together? It would be amazing to do live sessions with the multiple camera angles but I guess you would need special software to switch between the cameras that are feeding the cast at any given time. Awesome info :)

      Yes, to both really. For these tutorial videos I edit it in post but if you have a cam link or a way to connect your DSLR camera to your computer then you can switch that on zoom during live sessions as well. I prefer to use my phone and an app as my camera for live teaching sessions these days. Just easier on a daily basis. Hi Professor, I hope you're great. Great tips, I really find your videos useful. What advice do you have for a teacher-to-be who lives in the country in South Africa? Honestly, I have been dragging my feet with online teaching because I live in a small rural town, very country and most of my neighbors have chickens that what chickens do, noise and all that, I have no idea what to do with that kind of noise. Is there something I can buy to kill the noise? I have gaming headphones with a mic, not sure whether they'll be of any help. I do have a ring and tripod just worried about the chickens or noise honestly.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 года назад +1

      Hello there! I feel that with online teaching everyone has come to understand that we are all working from home and that noises happen that we can not control like animals, outside storm conditions, other people in the home or outside, children etc. I have dogs and they do tend to park while I'm teaching or coaching online. I don't have any suggestions for noise cancelation other than perhaps find a place that you can close the doors and windows to try and soften any of the noise but the headphones with a mic is great. I would suggest doing a trial run with someone you trust and jump on a zoom or internet call and talk for a few minutes and ask them if the noise is too much. I grew up on a farm so understand the noise of chickens, cows, roosters, animals etc 😊 Do a test run and see how it goes!

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  2 года назад +1

      totally feel you on this. I like to use as much natural light as possible if you can have access to it in your space. Otherwise try something like a LumeCube, soft box light, or LED light (square size) to avoid that annoying ring in the eyes/glasses reflection. Or... try throwing a light colored white thin cloth on your ring light to diffuse it like a sheet or scarf or something thin.

    Using Airpods could be a bad idea because they run out of charge after a certain time, it depends on how much time you are going to be in the class. Also, I found connection problems using them (don't know why), and using wire earphones I didn't have that problem.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro

      Really good point. Yes, bluetooth headphones do often cause delay because they are not directly connected to the computer. I make sure to charge my airpods between every session/lesson/class but lately I've actually stopped using headphones most of the time. I think it really depends upon your personal preference. Great points to consider!

      @@VirtualTeachingPro you are amazingly kind, clear and fun .. i teach at northeastern university in boston and i am pointing my colleagues to your videos -- two questions if you dont mind -- do you not ever upload an entire powerpoint presentation to a module? rather you use pages throughout? and second we used blackboard in the past and i had students keep journals of their progress -- and i also did discussion boards much the same as you described. i understand that canvas does not have a journal feature and that i should use discussion boards ... but that will get messy any ideas? btw, you should be charging for these tutorials :-/ they are better than the pros

    I would like to have a teacher like you! How do you put the music? On the computer?

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 года назад +1

      Hello there! I play music from a different speaker that I have next to my desk when I'm playing music during zoom sessions. If you're super fancy and tech savvy, then I like to use a Zoom H6 to have a direct feed into the computer so it comes out clear on their end but that's a little more of a complicated set up.

    What music do you play as students are entering the zoom room?

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  Год назад

      Totally depends on the class and mood I want to create. Sometimes it’s jazz. Sometimes it’s a new musical (I teach musical theatre) or sometimes it’s coffee house type music. I do suggest using instrumental music though without lyrics. That way it feels like background music and keeps it a neutral tone.

    Hello is blueyeticaster good for online teaching?

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 года назад

      It's a great microphone and high quality. It's mostly used for streaming and podcasting bc it gives you that clear, clean and live quality of vocal presence online. I have friends that have used it for online teaching especially those that are singing. I myself haven't used it yet so I can't say from personal experience. I do have students that use it and it sounds great when they are speaking online in zoom classes with me. I say if you can afford a high quality mic then it's worth it in the long run! Let me know how it goes and what you think of it if you get it!

    do you use a microphone and ear pods? which has a mic

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 года назад

      Yes, I use an external mic bc the sound quality is just so much better than the built in ones in the air pods/ear buds. Other option would be getting a really nice quality headset that has a higher level built in mic like gamers use. Really just depends upon your preference. I always suggest trying a few different options and seeing which sounds best/works best for your needs.
