Awesome video on this. I look forward to seeing more. It got my interest in the Shapeoko.
half way through your video part one of the Shapoko and already I can see this is head and shoulders better then the any I've seen.
Oh man! Wait till you get to part 3!
Thanks so much for this video. I love the way you took it from start to finish.
your welcome. I was a beginner once, i know how it is.
It's crazy how you move from this to the one infinity monster mag. Love your work, bro, always following you. God bless you in your family.
Great Video! My Shapeoko 3 XXL arrived yesterday! Here comes the fun!
Your gonna love it! It's frustrating at times, but amazing too!
Where did you buy it?
Thanks so much for your videos. I also bought some plans off of your etsy shop. Saved me a ton of time making those designs myself.
Glad you like them!
GREAT video my friend! Congrats on 1k subs my friend. Things have come a long way since we met almost a year ago on Instagram. WELL done and keep up the great work. I am hoping to get a CNC at some point this year. I'll be watching this entire series, even though I am a bit late, lol. Take care buddy!
Your right about that. A LONG way! Thanks for the continued support!!
Thanks so much for sharing this video. Im planning to buy a CNC and the price of the shapeoko is good for me and i wanted to see more of this machine and your video is perfect for that! Im going to sleep but tomorrow i need to watch part 2 and 3 ;)
The next two get even better!
Myers Woodshop much bro??
Especially the 3rd
Myers Woodshop 3000$?
Your comment said “much bro”. Did you mean how much? 1800$
your videos are spot on.
I bought an XXL and had problems with it right out of the box. Bought a shark HD4 and what a world of difference! Now moving onto a larger machine!
subbed you man. good luck on your way to 1k!
Good for you keeping your kids involved.. give him some of his own projects The Best
they will be invovled every day!
Your very humble. You look like you know quite a bit with cnc’s.
Thanks Stan, There's always more to learn.
Great video and I did subscribe.
Worth it to watch thanks for your video bro.😊
no problem!
Great video. I'm looking forward to your comparison on the 2 routers. I had planned on buying an x carve after Christmas. I hadn't considered the shapeoko until I saw this video. I guess I'll wait until your review comes out to place my order.
Part 3 is up!
Great video. Very helpful.
glad it helped!
What is the length and width of the work table for your Shapeoko?
Pretty cool
Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. Can it be change from metric to inches?
the software? yeah. this video is pretty old, check out www.onefinitycnc.com
very nice.
thanks Ben.
your welcome!
Great video..
Thanks herb!
What do you think about a vacuum attachment to control wood chips and cut down on dust?
Can you use the Dewalt 618 router with this CNC ?
Incredible video. I haven’t even given buying a CNC machine until I happened to watch a Jay Bates video which caused me to explore what options are available. It appears as if this a great option?
I love this cnc Kevin!
Hello, wanted to ask can we use artcam or vertric in shapeoko xxl for carving 3d or in other words can we carv 3d models like antique frames etc with shapeoko ?
Yes you can use art cam and vetric!
Salivating! I know I'm late to the party, but recently have become interested in the Shapeoko. So, now that it's been a couple of years, are you still digging the Shapeoko?
He's now using the Onefinity. Well worth checking out.
I now use a onefinity. I've gone all ball screw. Check it out www.onefinitycnc.com
Thank you for your videos! You have been super helpful. I am stuck on the part of homing my machine. I cannot seem to get the Yaxis to move back and forward unless i hold the belts up. Do you have any idea what might be happening?
are your belts tight like a guitar string?
They were not! That turned out to be the problem.
so far QC has been my biggest problem. mdf was bruised pretty good and screw holes painted... locked the bolts up. they talk about not cross threading. but one of my leg levelers actually started to spin. you get this problem? this all happened with the first and second step...
got the shopoko because the one you got now onefinity delivers in literally march... i needed to get going. lucky I had taps to clear the paint
My XXL is arriving on Thursday tomorrow 😊and my question is can I assemble this upstairs and then carry it downstairs which would require standing it up on end to go down the stairs or SHOULD I BUILD IT IN PLACE?
Thank you for all the videos helping me to decide AND now helping me to ASSEMBLE AND OPERATE IT!❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️THAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE PRESENT 👍KEEP THEM INVOLVED❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️
good luck pete!
Next time when demonstrating Halo World, try useing a thin liner instead of a marker or a pencil, I think you wil find it works a lot better
How did you attach the Dewald dw611? Do you need another cable for this? Or have the plug cut off and only the cables connected / Where then?
i ran it along the drag chain.
hmm, bigger than I expected. I wonder if there's a 12"x12" cnc...
they make 3 different sizes of both machines.
so from what i've seen the shapenoko is a bit cheaper, has a bigger work area and comes partially assembled. did i get that right?
its about the same price, about the same work area, but is WAY more assembled.
How many hours can i continuously cut wood without damaging the machine
What is the actual foorprint of the two assembled machines you're comparing?
Did the XXL get replaced by the 1000mm X-Carve?
Is there a noticeable difference between the Makita and Dewalt? Or is it just preference? Thanks.
If your doing metals and plastics, it seems the mikita is better suited for that as it can perform lower rpm. The dewalt option is the top seller however
Get the replica makita or buy 2 and still have change with a back up. Id imagine the only thing that goes are the brushs which you get spares and are cheap. Or go for water cooled. Depends what your doing.
I'm thinking of buying one of these, can I upload a picture to it and it cut it out or do I need to enter each code for the pic?
Thanks...
it only runs on vectors. You can upload a picture then do something called an image trace. It will try to auto apply the pictures to vectors. sometimes its good, others its not so great. you'll want a .ai or .svg. or .dfx file format.
@@MyersWoodshopcan you do a vid on that? that would be awesome. And thank you...
Use regular pen and cut the top of the inside ink cardrige about quarter inch and put spring there and close the top, this will make all draws much much better.
thats a great idea!
I appreciate your videos, they been loads of help. It didn't appear that you had any issues completing the squaring steps. I'm running into coming out of square when I start to tighten down all the loosened screws...I have an email out to Shapeoko but haven't heard back and I wanted the weekend to play with the CNC. Any suggestions?
have you checked out winston moy videos?
I have looked at Winston’s but it didn’t help with my particular issue but I figured it out. I ended up removing all the screws from the back half (section) of the wasteboard in order to get it in square and stay square when tightening all remaining screws down. In looking down through the now empty holes (back half wasteboard) none line up on the back half. The existing metal plate holes beneath are barely visible on some, so I will need to redrill new holes in the back half wasteboard in order to attach it to the metal and move forward... It was out quite a bit! Thanks Ben for your reply. Happy woodworking.
Great work on the Video. I’m in the market for a CNC. Any other CNC that you would recommend to look at.?
these are the only two i've ever used..or seen in real life :)
Don’t know why they don’t give us the option of a fully install unit. Several of us who are new would like to have it for the assembly unit. This way we don’t make any mistakes
I think it would be SUPER expensive to ship it assembled AND would likely be out of alignment and parts would be broken.
Did you have a problem with the limit switch on the X axis hitting the wire loom? It seems like the limit switch should’ve been mounted on on the other side of the plate. My wire loom catches the head of the hex nut. I can push the wire loom back some. It just doesnt seem right. Nice video!
That’s exactly how it should be. I don’t know why they show it on the side they do. Hopefully this will be changed at some point
Myers Woodshop - thank you for the quick reply. I assumed this was correct as this is the only way that feels normal. I just purchased my machine last week and look forward to more of your videos. Thank you!
It seems strange to me that I haven't heard any comments about how loud CNC machines are. I would suspect at full power they would be very loud. If this is the case are they too loud for a suburban garage?
mine is in a suburban shed with no insulation. when i step outside i can barely hear the humming of the machine.
I've got two routers, Makita 700 and a Triton 2400 watt which I use in a garage and they seem pretty loud when I use them. Maybe I should turn the Makita on and go outside and find out how loud they are out in the street. The noise thing is whats stopped me from getting or even considering getting a CNC.
Thought of that. I've got one over my shopvac. Problem with CNC is the noise goes on and on over hours not intermittent like other power tools I use.
If noise becomes an issue, there are a number of really excellent RUclips videos that show people building enclosures for their machines.
Cleanest workshop I have ever seen do you do any work in there, the is no way I could walk around in mt workshop in bear feet
i can't stand a mess!
What is a good program that's ez to use to turn pics and pic files into gcodes for the XXL
You can download carbide create for free and see if that works for you. You could also try easel.
if got carbide but can't get it to turn pics in to g code
Look up lithograph on vetric aspire
Can i use oscillating knife in this cnc?
i think you can use a drag knife, but don't think an oscillating knife will work.
Have you had any major issues would you recommend this machine to someone who is a beginner novice like myself , a hobbyist at most
i started out with zero knowledge too. Nothing major at all, and the community is so helpful.
Myers Woodshop would you recommend this over the x carve? Did you look at any others?
Myers, how much of a hassle it would be to carry those boxes through an airport? I'm from Brazil and as expected there are no Carbide dealers down here. I'm thinking about planning a trip do Florida just to buy it and bring it back home. By the way, I could pay for a 660 dollars UPS shipping, but that would force me to pay 100% taxes on top of the product's value. So it would be 1800 USD + 660 USD + 1800 USD (tax only).
Have you checked Matterhackers? They ship internationally. (Click the link in the description, it’s an affiliate link to Matterhackers)
C'mon, rubber bandsbetter then ties... Loved the video till I saw how you attached the pen :). Still, will watch other two as i am in the market for CNC, and need to decide - X-Carve ore Shapeoko.
:) I was cheap and wanted to save the zip ties...don't be cheap like me :)
Large hose clamps tightened with a ratchet is not going to move either.
Can you tell me the size of the table you need for this machine?
I have a table video in my channel.
I was scratching my head thinking "what on earth are those zip-ties for?"
i know me too.
How long did it take you to put the shapeoko together compared to the x carve
the Shapeoko took about 3-4 hours total. The X-carve took about 10-12 hours.
Myers Woodshop wow big difference, I’m glad I watched your videos. I was going to get an x carve but you have changed my mind
Myers Woodshop also which router is better the dewalt or makita?
They’re bout the same. The makita has a wider range of rpm so it’s better for milling metals
That router is good but a 2.2k spindle is great
got an extra one you can send my way ? :P
@@MyersWoodshop no but the big rock candy mountain Shenzhen in china does dont get me wrong when i started building mine their was no xcarve no shapoko my first was a joes cnc build skateboard bearing and mdf learned alot from that build but my beast is a hybrid of a david gatton/Patrick hood Daniel's machine mine is all 3/4 birch ply uses .35 chain for the x and y ball screw on the z and uses 1600 oz nema 34 on all axis each has its own powersupply
Also has a 40 watt laser on the back of the gantry now my pic show it mounted vertical that worked great no mirror alignment issues but i moved it to the back to accommodate the water cool spindle the spindle and laser share the coolant the gantry weights 123 lbs
Anyone know any European alternatives? Ireland/UK preferably .
here www.ebay.fr/itm/Robust-WorkBee-Pro-1010-Professional-cnc-100x100/233256573436
Any idea what unit would cut at least 6inches z axis?
a much bigger and expensive unit.
Myers Woodshop.. thanks that helps alot.
Your welcome
Would this be good for making cribbage boards
absolutely. lots of free plans online.
Actually your title is Ultimate verses Shapeoko, that's why I watched! You know expecting some comparative points. Maybe title your videos better next time, Like unpacking a Shapeoko?
agreed. that's why I watched it as well. Kind of lame.
How good is the smaller version?
As good as the bigger one.
good to know! I tried 3d printers but they are still too limited compared to cnc technology.
Renaissance Man there both actually the same and work exactly the same but ok bro.
how does it compare to xcarve model?
part 2 and 3 will answer this!
The Shapeoko 3 bests the XCarve (which is just a modified Shapeoko 2) in just about every way.
Part 3 is up!
do u need a touch scree laptop ?
check out www.onefinitycnc.com much better machine than either of these!
I just put together my shapeoko XXL and got to the very end where it was time to home the machine. I followed the instructions per the book and when it came to hit that yellow button, all I heard was grinding, the Z-axis did not move like it should of. I tried several times, called carbide 3D and spoke with someone. However their troubleshooting did not work. They even sent me a new control board and that still, didn’t work. I’m getting fed up and about to have them come get it and refund me. Anyone else have this same problem.......?
And this is why I use a www.onefinitycnc.com now :P
May i ask about : x carve vs workbee vs shapeoko where most good? And the reason?
onefinity. ballscrew, no v wheels, no computer needed.
Myers Woodshop what made you switch? (And what did you do with the shapeoko??)
gave it to my brother in law @fierysquirrelart Belts, v wheels are very very old tech. Also, it had to have a computer attached to it during the cut (which could be days). And the onefinity takes like 10 minutes to set up out of the box.
Myers Woodshop how is it in terms of speed? The size seems pretty limited though.
PLUS . . . You didn't start out with zero touching anything!!!
Will this CNC machine cut metal, carbon fiber, wood, and hard rock like amber and crystal? I am looking for an entry CNC machine to build some small custom parts.
It will do soft metals and carbon fiber. Not sure about crystal.
cool thanks! I will buy one then to start creating some parts I need
What size ?
Xxl
Love that machine..where to buy?
link is in the description
Don’t worry about your kids in the background.
I don't like the homing being in the back corner.
It does take a bit getting used too.
better to view and pick up your finish product
Machine price
Manoj Nagwanshi around 1500 i think. Can be built better and cheaper buying in parts from aliexpress.
So you bought 2 CNC’s and still got belt drives with a separate router as a motor 🤔 if you bought one laguna iq with ball screw drives, completely assembled out of the box with a liquid cooled 3 hp motor with Vcarve pro you’d have a machine that will run 10 years without showing any wear or backlash, a no belts to adjust or replace and in the end cheaper than 2 or more cheap machines.
Is the laguna anywhere close to 2k? Your comparing apples to oranges
رد ودر.
You must not care about safety, You don't work in the shop barefoot. Let's see how many toes you have left next year.
Want to place a bet?
John stop acting like an idiot
Your video doesnt help make the machine at all, thanks for nothing
can't please em all.
Shut it Troll
Jesus Christ! Stop being a helpless whiny asshole! Do you want to watch a 4-5 hour video? Read the directions
Tyler Calvo - What? This was an extremely useful video! And very interesting too, for that matter.
