    This show come finals night will be absolutely insane, with all the interactive parts sewn into it.
    Also glad I will be able to go see it live, and glad in general to see live, competitive drum corps back on the field. (No slight to last season's performances at DCI Celebration, which were great shows overall with most only being prepared in about an 8-week timeframe.)
    May give them the edge they need with the GE judges to get that second title from where I sit... can't stop watching this show!

    Crown is looking phenomenal this year. Their score tonight (July 9th) was more than 2 points higher than the Blue Devils score from last night at 81.85.
    On July 19th at DCI Broken Arrow, all 5 top-scoring corps (Blue Devils, Crown, Vanguard, Bluecoats, Crusaders) will be competing together for the first time this season. The 2022 season is shaping up to be a nail biter. Looking forward to more of your reaction vids!

    This show is going to have to grow on me. Playing is outstanding, no question there. But what is the orange prop supposed to represent? Why is it there, other than Pride of Cincinnati used something similar this past year at WGI. Love the Crown Guard but I would reconsider the yellow. IDK… it just seems washed out against the white. I actually wonder if there wasn't some kind of shortage in fabric dyes/fabric sourcing that resulted in all the white, or if financially they all got deals on white fabric after the rough last couple of years. Feels like a penny-pinching solution to me.

      2 things I find significant here. The 1st is that this post was bannered as emphasizing the crowd reaction. In the comments we read a lot abt "the GE judges" & how THEY will be giving this show the top score this yr. Ah, yes, I see. Know all abt the GE captions. Was in on them from the beginning. Also know who.it was who.successfully lobbied to change the rules so that what you were playing & how well no longer mattered if there was not enough crowd noise. Got it. So next I'm watching & I notice here's a big part of this gang's "interactive experience" - lead by some of that narration featured from.George lately on Medium (see, George, we aren't wasting time hating you)! - is actually a "narrator" openly asking for the crowd to "...please clap loudly...', a blatant plea for GE score. Why? Well, in the beginning when you hear an actual unsolicited response from.the audience ( I will hereby refrain from using the word "crowd").... It's frankly obvious. There are people here but not truly crowds any more.
      Secondly, while I am also.glad that there is now enough slack out there that we are free to congregate at the shrines if DCI once more, I can't help but notice that the one-time unavoidable numbers from the vast caravans of travelling boosters seems to be absent. The diehards appear to be there in their expected positions. I know where their sound is coming from bcs I used to be one of them. But from what I have seen today, the majority of them have decided on the discretion of the kitchen counter participaters, which are offshoots of the various political brigades from he last elections & the preceding Presidency. They can organize shifts for the supporters who will no longer be spending on rv gas or plane fare & I see have even engaged in e mailing out talking points for the various commentators. Which leads me to ask the question: Is it for real that now the GE judges are expected to be swayed by the amt of and "tone" of comments on the internet??? If that is in fact the case, I foresee the actual awarding of "the gold" ( what gold? Whose gold?? Gold WHAT?!) to be made, like, the next morning, considering the amt of reading that will likely be involved. Hell, I've read my share of score sheets. And yeah, I know it's fashionable to record your remarks as you judge & I am tech savvy enough to keep up. But, my God, a lot of these geniuses have barely mastered writing, let alone reading, which of course is NOT fashionable these days.
      Finally, I am gratified to find out that "this show" (& I'm sure all the others) was "...put together in 8 wks...), bcs I thought so. Finally. Real actual evidence that "band " & "drum corps" really are fundamentally different. And, sorry but not sorry, at last it nakedly shows. Bring in all the reeds & woodwind they want. Hell, just finally admit you're not even going to TRY making like they matter any more & just bring out the baton twirlers instead of a color guard (does anybody else remember when it was called that?). Let 'em job their performers out of $5000/yr just for the privilege of force feeding themselves their football halftime shows in pursuit of holding on to whatever they believe keeps them in power of a venue that was stolen & never really theirs in the first place. Because as of the summer of 2022 it's official: They are finally completely guilty of doing the exact same "sins" that way back in the '70's were the SAME gripes they had against the American Legion, the VFW & the CYO.
      We'll keep the sound & the crowds, thank you very much.

    • @g.hon.4645
      @g.hon.4645 2 года назад +1

      @@Mrtellitlikeitis Jim, don't you forget there was "gay drum corps international" LONG before there was ever any DCI. Everyone knew. It could be embodied by jokes or by shrugging tolerance ( it wasn't CONTAGIOUS, f'gossakes!)or by outright hatefulness; but the point was we all learned TO DEAL W/IT bcs we HAD to, & we got along. They were in Jr. Corps & they were in senior corps & it was just a fact of life. Many of us never met either someone gay or someone black until we had made the horn or drum line & began having to.mix w/so many other corps from.all over the country.

    I love CC but soloists are not their forte. No screamers! The drum line needs polishing before DCI finals. I didn’t feel the brass magical arrangements of previous top ranking years.

    • @reggietolbert9049
      @reggietolbert9049 2 года назад

      Plenty of notes….maybe by design that more emphasis is placed on the visual and general effect, where they come up short in previous years. That horn line will win the Ott or be real close. I commented because I said the same thing about the arrangements initially. The more I watch the better it gets. Love this show!

      I agree. The second solo does reflect the famous classical horn technique of CC. I’ve been a fan since the famous 2007 show and how can I forget the perfect brass score at DCI finals 2013. From a general effect standpoint I will watch a few times before commenting. What’s your best all time GE show?

      8 wks. It took them 8 wks to.put this together. It's gone to 40 yrs - a good run, all things considered. And I don't think it's sunk in yet that they are no.longer putting in the kind of "thought" into their productions that they originally were selling in the early days as so superior. I detect the presence of templates. They are having to fold up their "art" smaller & smaller in order to.maintain this DCI " terrutory" of theirs. They have, jn fact, actually removed the "art" from their "marching arts" platform. They are now formulaic & don't even know it. Remember the top shows from the late '70's thru the '80's, when EVERYBODY still marched & there were no mics for the solos & the music was so relatable & recognizable & so GOOD? And all.you had to.do.to participate was to show up.& sign on?

  • @g.hon.4645
    @g.hon.4645 2 года назад +1

    "March or Die"?
    I think they're dying. Over 400 here, which sounds like maybe 1, 2yrs or actual participaters, tops. And their friends. Maybe some family. The main thing to see here is that they weren't THERE. And in order for this phenomenon to continue, the seats need to be filled. And they aren't. They weren't. So the Midwest crowd thought they knew better. And then they, in the pursuit of "the total show concept" (orig. The Garfield Cadets, a.k.a. The Cadets from absolutely nowhere except a business mailing address), lost the sound. Figured it didn't matter since only the well educated in music coukd really appreciate what they were doing. But when they lost the sound, they lost the emotion & passion & so they lost the crowd. And now they suddenly realize they're losing the kids.Nobody's finding a way to come out to march. Too elitist. Too expensive. Too much time wasted in the really formative yrs of the participants who spend a lot of time cooling their heels not competing the way they wanted to.

    This is an example of how terrible all the Drum and Bugle Corps have become. I have been a fan of this entertainment for many years....and...with great disappointment over the last years I have seen these Corps devolve into senseless, un-inspired and even ridiculous performances. Primarily what you are seeing is the feminization of all the Corps in the DCI ...you see it in the costumes, uniforms, props and choreography. Many Corps now perform without head coverings. They should be demeritted for being under dressed. Carolina Crown is likely to go down in history as the first Corps to perform in Drag...look closely at how feminine all their uniforms are...scarfs and skirt like pants...and ballet tights. Musically it has devolved into short blasts of sound lacking any melody. In the past we would get 90 % of brass music during a performance...now we are lucky to get 50 %....Visually....way to many props....way to many dancers... way to much running around the field. The expansion of the in field percussion group...to many xylophones...and now the inclusion of synthesized instruments, singers, narrations, guitars and odd looking string instruments. What I see is a desperation of all the Corps to be inventive and to stand out. This desperation has unfortunately made them go...to far out.
