The company I work for does professional mold remediation of vehicles for our local dealerships, and I've got to say: I'm so glad you used the ozone generator before you started; I would honestly recommend an additional 30 minute treatment after you vacuumed to help ensure you oxidized the spores below the growth. We would actually recommend replacement of all fabric / leather, as we can't guarantee it clean all the way through, and there is a possibility of deeply bound spores into the materials, but to each their own. (EDIT: at 7:37 you mentioned this! 🙌) Please tell me you also removed and cleaned the headliner - 'cause I didn't see that - especially if she thought it came from her sunroof. I'm also concerned for the HVAC system; we remove the filter, turn the HVAC on recirculate with the temp set to the ambient air temp, and run the ozone to get it into the HVAC and eliminate what ever might be hiding. But, all in all - you guys did an incredible job!
Genuine question here. Are car consoles electronics, buttons etc. designed to be water resistant? How do they handle the spray on liquid solutions and the steam treatments? Can this not damage all the electronics of modern cars? Please advise
@@kylebooth6047 automotive buttons are designed to withstand small amounts of water. Your door panels can get rained on, drinks spilled on the console, etc... I've never actually seen a button go bad from water alone, they are pretty simple contactors at their core. Over time they may corrode, nothing some sand paper cant fix. The radio though, that can be susceptible to damage from moisture. I never advise steam cleaning a radio, though some do. Many displays have been ruined by doing this.
You don’t have to go that crazy with the fabrics. HEPA vacuum them and ozone for a few hours or so and you’ll be fine. The only reason I’d worry about the fabrics is if you have a problem with mold. Otherwise, you are constantly breathing in large amounts of mold outside. Kick a pile of leafs and you’re probably breathing in more mold as well as other nasty stuff than this car will ever have.

I had a BMW convertible that was in a flooded garage basement and was completely covered in mold, all the carpets, all the seats etc. I ran an Ozone generator in it 24/7 for three weeks. For several days I had a battery charger hooked up and the vents circulating air as well through the air ducts. Shampooed it, let it dry outside then rand the ozone generator for another week. I sold it to my brother and 10 years later it still has no mold in it. It helps to have leather seats but you really have to run the ozone generator for more than one hour like these guys did. And if she doesn't find the leak ASAP the mold will definitely come back.
We breathe in mold daily obviously not as much as was in this car. As long as she finds the leak and runs a ozone generator in there she should be fine.

This car should be written off as a loss, no matter how good it was cleaned. The mold spores are still buried deep in HVAC system and hidden cracks/crevices, and it's not worth breathing all that in.
The sad truth is, any ca r at a certain point will have mold in the HVAC system as there will always be moisture from condensation. And there are so many cars around where you actually get a quite mustier smell as soon as you turn the fan on. The manufacturers recommend, especially on humid days, to switch of the air conditioning about 3 to 5 minutes before you park the car and keep the fan running to evaporate most of the condensation out of the HVAC system. But let us be honest, who does it like that?
My exact thoughts. I would have taken that care to get burned or demolished like why the fuck would you spend money cleaning it. It doesn’t get rid of all the mold embedded. That’s disgusting

I do pressure washing and I have OCD .. that is the best part of the job, seeing the owners so happy and surprised when I’m done. I think half of the joy is from me looking at what I did. Great job guys!
You can also get the filters changed at a dealership as well. I get mine changed every time I get an oil change or whenever I feel like I smell something off
After watching this, I’m super skeptical about buying a used car now. I mean someone could literally do this and then go trade their car in and not even mention any of this to the dealership...
pretty sure its completely sanitary after the ozone + sprayer + deep clean, the mold/bacteria simply does not go deep enough to ruin the internals of the car or make it dangerous unless the car has litterally been sitting for 5~ years in flood water
That was my first thought as well. Yes this treatment disinfects the surface but the mold 100% has made its way deep into the seat foam, internal air vents, etc.
The owner may want to ozone the closed car for a day or two off and on, but that should eventually kill anything that gets released from sitting in the seats.
Good job cleaning out the horrible mold, one thing that many people seem to ignore in this type of situations is everything which is not visible for the naked eye, just imagine how horrible it must be beyond the dashboard as well as inside the air channels of the car. This one of the most awesome videos I’ve seen due to the level of professional work that you did. Keep up your good work!
Factsssss
@@frostbite1991 Thank you, for this thoughtful response.

I’d sell the entire car off for parts. There’s no way all the mold is gone.
exactly

That's why they did an ozone treatment....to kill the spores. That's the little box they take out at the beginning.
@@marshalltjones Ozone only kill surface or airborne spores. Mold that's grown into the fabric will not be killed. This car is still a health hazard.
@@msalzberg4962 That is true. I don't know if the were using a solution that would attack spores in the fabric, but I doubt it would get all of them.

What about the A/C. The mold HAS to be in those vents. Oh boy, this is just a whole problem
They used the ozone machine in this car but you just never know.
They smoked out the AC in the beginning with the steamer which kills and prevents spores
Now, I understand how cars take fire all of a sudden on a highway.
Yeah except you buy a new car and lose 10 grand by simply driving off the lot. 😤 #UsedCarGang
