- TIME FOR ANOTHER UNDERRATED GAME! Matrimelee is such an amazing game that's extremely polished and unique, but the arcade mode was so DIFFICULT. I can't believe how hard the boss was! But I wanna showcase how cool this game is and I think you guys should try it out!

Matrimelee is awesome! If you attempt a throw near the referee he’ll roll forward into the fighting plain and you can use him as a projectile. There’s an input combo on the player select screen to unlock 5 hidden guest characters from Rage of the dragons too. The last boss is an input reading nightmare. Once she gets that first hit on you, the round is basically over but she can be beat. Just wait for her to rush you with her foot saw kicking move then roll behind her and crouch kick her in the back. She’ll continue to spam that move if you’re successful. Repeat until shes out of health or time her out. Cheap tactics for a cheap boss

The easiest way is to get her into a fireball loop with the old lady … just zone the bitch out!

I am LOLing at the angels in the background - they cheer if you're in the life lead and they're fizzing out when you're almost KO'ed. This + the mini game + THAT DID MAD DAMAGE - Justin you gotta give me a break to breath while laughing

The moment I saw the boss at 5:50, my brain went, "oh, that's just straight up Ingrid, isn't it?"
Then, right as I finished processing that thought, my boy Justin just yells, "is that Ingrid!?"
The timing of that was so perfect it was almost scary.
you remind me of people who confuse Goeniz for Yamazaki !!!! so funny and think Chris is a girl and call Choi Freddy ! so funny ! so many characters were called according to their look like Chin for ex old man , Chang : The Fat, Orochi Iori : Enraged Iori etc... lol but i never did that i read the name and i read about the character etc..

Who's Ingrid and why does everyone keep talking about her?
@@paulunga Ingrid was a goddess character that originated in a Capcom crossover fighting game called Capcom Fighting Evolution. She was a character that Capcom was pushing really hard to make popular, but most people hated her.
She also appeared in one specific version of Steet Fighter Alpha 3 and a bunch of other obscure crossover fighting games.

I mean, really. Every time I'm touching Power Instinct franchise, I'm feeling like I'm having a trip. Or a stroke. The games are bizarre in Atlus's fashion

@@johnnyace2287 I think it's because she's kida acts as the prize for the winner of the tournament. IIRC the plot of the game is that some king organizes the tournament to marry this...oddly young-looking daughter of his.
@@johnnyace2287 the DEEP LORE is a princess(the final boss) and a prince(added later in the franchise) host a tournament the winner of which is going to marry either one of them. Shenanigans ensue.

Final boss is a pain! I find double jumping behind her after she sets up traps is the easiest way to open her up.
There's also a PS2 port of Matrimelee with an alternate boss.

I know EXACTLY what you're dealing with, Justin. My friend and I once spent five hours on this boss. We finally gave up at 3 a.m. I'm a lot better at these games now, than I was then. Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime. If they release a collection like Breakers did, I'll pretty much have to!
Aww people should have told Justin to play the Japanese version of the game. The game has amazing vocal songs that play in the stages that the global versions removed.
The Japanese version of Matrimelee has vocal themes singed by the background characters who gives more personality to the stages.

I remember beating this one back in the day. Like somebody else said, double jumping, specially the genie, and attacking from behind, is key.

Really wish that these Atlus fighting games were more readily available. Groove on Fight and Power Instinct are real hidden gems.
this one and the next two were developed by a company called Noise Factory that got rights to continue the franchise while Atlus keep it, but since Noise Factory ceased, Atlus should continue no matter if Sega wants Atlus to focus on SMT & Personas

I think any time you design a fighting game boss, you should ask yourself, "would one of the greatest players in the world struggle to beat this?" If the answer is 'yes', you probably overdid it.

There's so much more into this game, There's an old lady who throws her dentures at you as a fireball, Annie's stage is the one where a lady plays the song "the little things that make me happy" which is about a woman who is obsessed with food in the most ridiculous way, when you fight hikaru her stage is the concert and they play a silly alien song and ufos fly around which is why the aliens are dancing around in the concert stage.
Elias is a priest who looks like ozzy osbourne and who's fighting pose makes him look like he's playing the guitar.
Kintaro kokuin isn't featured in this game but he's a little boy who appears in other power instinct games, he wears very little clothing and when he's knocked on the floor his genit@ls are exposed

There is an updated version of this game that is only available in Japan. The one you are playing is an older version.
There's other upgraded versions you should try to hunt down.
But uh, don't forget, you can power-up some of your specials and a few normals by running (they'll act like EX moves).
You can call the referee into the fight with B+C (IIRC, game tells you this during the info screen upon credit start). You can use the bum as a human shield or throw him at the opponent.
Weirdly, you could also do a clashing minigame if both characters taunted each other (match the buttons that appear on the screen and whoever screes up first is at disadvantage to be hit).
That said, the later games after this got rid of the referee and "Bloodline Battle" mechanic.

This is the fourth main game of the Power Instinct ip made by Atlus in the early 90s. Only this one was made for the NeoGeo.

2:01 - Justin's asking about the chronology of the Power Instinct games and that's a rabbit hole I don't feel like going down, but let me simplify it as much as possible.
Groove On Fight is the fourth game (the third was a 2 vs 2 pseudo-update/sequel of Power Instinct 2) and it is like the Garou: Mark of the Wolves of the Power Instinct series; it takes place in the future, it's more serious, and the roster is almost completely different along with the art direction. It also makes direct references and connections to the Shin Megami Tensei series - no joke.
Matrimelee, the fifth game, goes back chronologically to taking place right after #2, making it a direct sequel to that game. It was also made by a different studio; the same people that made the Double Dragon fighting game, Rage of the Dragons. They made one (or two, depending on whom you ask) more Power Instinct game, which was a sequel to Matrimelee and was released only in Japan.
Gaiden/Legends is considered an expansion of PI2, so GoF is number 3 in the series.

Matsuri Senzo Kuyou is the fifth and last game in the series
@@gpbear4 Bonno no Kaiho was a port of Matrimelee, but it added characters and was a continuation of the storyline after the events of Matrimelee, which is why I said, "depending on whom you ask." It doesn't feel like a sequel, but you could argue that it is. Same with Legends, but Legends feels more like a sequel given the new mechanics.
Again, it's a bit of a rabbit hole.

It is, with caveats. For the most part the fighting is.... stable but as you can see, don't take anything illicit while operating the controller. It is kusoge, VERY kusoge.The funny thing about Matrimelee is that this... this game... is *tame*, look up Power Instinct.

Sissy has an exploit. If you keep rolling and doing a hard punch, she’ll take the bait. She’ll break the exploit, once she gets the combo breaker with a special. So you have to bait her in again. Other than that, she’s extremely hard to beat.
