  • In this video I'm joined by my friend Chillo/Mark for a short hike up to Wheelstones on Derwent edge in the (not so) glorious Peak District to do a bit of wild camping. We enjoyed a few beers and food out of the wind in the lee of the rock formation. I haven't seen Chillo since his heart attack earlier in the year and it was good to catch up and hear about his adventures in the Coronary Care Unit.
    This is the first time I've used the Wild Country by Terra Nova, Panacea 2 tent and I must say I'm more than happy with it. Acres of space and built to handle at least 3 seasons. Thanks to ‪@PaulMessner‬ for reviewing this tent in some dire conditions. Go check out his video here;

I also tested out a new cooking system from Toaks/Vesuv Outdoors which performed very well when used with a Trangia spirit burner. I have the 700ml Toaks pot, both are available from Valley and Peak.
    valleyandpeak....
I also had a quick play with my new portable weather station. Its just a cheap thing off Amazon but it allows you to measure the wind speed and temperature, as well as providing the wind chill once the temps fall below 0C

If anyone has any questions about the other equipment used in the video please ask in the comments.
And if anyone wants to know what I refer to as "Hendos", that would be Hendersons Relish, a staple savoury food additive/condiment here in Sheffield.

Nice one Andy, I camped at Margery Stones last week... love my Hendo's too. Loads of room in that tent compared to my Helm Compact 1.

Nice one Steve, hope you are well. I've yet to venture up there, it's on the list but so many places to go and so little time (with everything else I've got going on). I've got the Helm 1 as you may have seen in my other videos, but I took the Panacea 2 on this trip as I wanted plenty of room inside. Helm 1 is a great tent.

Just picked up a second hand
Panacea for summer/spring camping with my daughter - good to hear your review of the internal size and the porches.

Just as long as you use standard width sleeping mats you should be OK. It's a great tent, much more capable than the spring/summer trips you are planning. Get yourself a decent sized dry bag and ditch the supplied tent bag as I find it too long to fit at the top of my rucksack. I'm not a fan of packing the tent vertically in the rucksack, I like the tent to sit right at the top. Thanks for the comment and Enjoy!!

Come on Man, a 'True' Yorkshireman would be taking along a good Olde Yorkshire Pork Pie (yummy goodness!) - Expat Yorkshireman from Minnesota USA, you are lucky, I have to make my own. Great Video, looks like a great tent too! keep up the good work, in entertaining us all.

But that would mean taking a pot of piccalilli too for the pie. Thanks for watching. Wish we had your snow in winters. I watch Shug's adventures in the boundary waters area in envy.

Full credit to your mate willing to do a bit of hiking and wild camping after having a heart attack. I would be really scared to put any pressure at all on my heart after that.

Yes I was keeping an eye on him on the way up. The wonders of modern medicine (stents) and correct recovery treatment make all the difference. He's like a new man. My Dad was the same after his triple bypass. Having seen my wife have a heart attack right in front of me, I also know what to lookout for. She is also fine now. Thanks for watching!

I was at wheel stones a couple of weeks back. First time I'd been there. Very cool area.

I've been up on Derwent Edge a few times now for day walks etc, but never camped there. Shame the weather wasn't playing ball, but you have to take the rough with the smooth. Thanks for watching.

@AndyWragg I camped at white tor, but stopped at wheel stones in the morning.
But you're right, that whole ridge is lovely.

    Nice tent Andy. 👍

Cheers Steve. It certainly is. Plenty of room to hang around for hours at a time, and sturdy enough for the conditions I'll find myself in. It's not billed as a 4 season tent, but once it's up and the trekking poles are deployed, it just doesn't move. Bit like a limpet. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to camp there.

Thanks for this Andy 😊looked a great camp dispite the clag and wind. Fab tent with the poles in too, love that about this model. It’s like a big Helm 1. Great to see the new Vesuv set up, I have just bought my first spirit burner and couldn’t resist the trangia kettle. Looking forward to seeing the tent into the colder months, ATB, Sarah

Andy, do you have a link for the heat mat please? Just looking on Amazon but the reviews are hit and miss, which one did you buy? TIA, Sarah

Hi Sarah. I was great to get out, especially after bombing the exam for the 2nd time. The tent is a tank with the trekking poles fitted. One tip I have for the larger tents that don't fit well in the pack due to the length of the bag is to use a dry sack instead and just stuff it in, the poles and pegs can go separately. Mr Messner did this for a while and it works really well with the Panacea. The risk obviously is that you may end up forgetting to pack the poles and pegs.
Go on then tell us what stove you got. Trangia Kettles (got a full Trangia 27 system myself) are nice but they aren't very flexible in terms of dual usage.
      Thanks for watching. ATB, Andy

@@AndyWragg hey 👋🏻 I absolutely agree, I stuff my tents in a sea to summit dry sack and take my poles and pegs in their respective bags, place them down one side of my bag. Means I can get all my kit in my bag and don’t need to strap anything to the side. It’s also helpful when the tent is soaking wet to contain the water. I just love Terra Nova tents! I have been enjoying using my Hilleberg to practice for colder weather and find it a safe haven, glad you felt well sheltered in your new girl 😀 so I have the trangia burner, a wind shield and a bush box outdoor pocket stove because I like putting things together, not sure how it will work yet so looking forward to trying it out without cutting myself! I’m tempted with the Vesuva, looks really efficient but I’d need to buy the pot too so maybe add it to my birthday present list present 🎁 🙏🏻
