- Understand what stall is in a centrifugal compressor. I expalin the process of what a stall does to an centrifugal impeller and what conditions to look out for.

Very happy and lucky to see this teaching.
We run a York. It’s been in service for about 10 years, it has thousands of stall counts through its service . I’ve never really been able to get a good answer as to if these are design to protect from surge or an actual problem, we do run them at low load at times just because of the design of the facility it’s necessary. But we’ve never had any issues or failures of the machine.
A stall is usually a local event (not the full compressor), a full compressor stall is going to result in a surge - and this can be a cyclical event causing damage.
Excellent
Could non condensables cause a stall ?
Yes
Psid of DT? 60psid is a big difference in temperature when talking about in example of 123?
Correct, i am speaking in context of high pressure systems.
Thanks sir,
Please can you clarify one point.
Surge occurs when pressure ratio is higher than the maximum pressure ratio. Here is maximum pressure ratio a parameter set by engineer on software monitoring tool or is it something else? Thanks
It's a parameter capped by motor hp and impeller compression ratio at full load on motor. When the pressure gets higher downstream of the compressor than your compressor can produce at max it will flow backwards.
surge: Like the elephant in the room
A video talking about technical, without number is empty prose, number, data, is tech.
