Hello Holden, I'm a Centrifugal Heavy equipment technician with 30 years of experience and love looking at you video clips and explanations therein. So I strongly encourage you, to remain committed in your quest to educating our younger technicians who, are not aware of the serious issues and problems they can and will encounter on Centrifugal Chillers, be they the recognized and competitive Models like YORK, McQuay, Daikin, TRANE, CARRIER. Their are newer brands entering the market who have yet to prove their ability to run with the older Models that have been in the field for over 100 years like the old Model White Western House and Worthington etcetera.
I liked the old R11's R12's which were phased out. Chillers that worked in a vacuum required a purge unit and the skilled technicians who understood their operations. Positive Pressure Chillers are great and have reduced maintenance cost however, their main principle operations remain the same and require experience operators to understand certain condition and logs.
Ahh getting a bit excited here sorry. Anyway, I would like if you can present a video clip on Chiller Stall as well. This phenomenon is also a serious and destructive condition that occurs just before the surge and many younger Centrifugal Chiller operators seem oblivious to this condition as well. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. It is indeed helpful.
Thank you, it's an honor to be able to teach this stuff. If you know anyone needing training let them know about chilleracademy.com

Hi
I am working on YORK OM Multi stage centrifugal chiller 5000Tr, Evaporator pressure - 35 psi, condenser pressure 117 psi,so compressor lift -82 psid.and machine is working fine.
And u were saying lift should be around -60-80psid .
So please explain is it ok or lift vary according to model of centrifugal compressor
There will be variance. One of the benefits of multi stage is improved lift capacity. Trane CVH also run higher lift threshold for same reasons. That level of lift requires really good load and fine tuned water flow to operate smoothly. That is evidence of a well tuned system, good job!
A 1963 vintage 350 ton Tonrac experienced surging one time that made it sound and look like it was going
to jump off the floor. The system operator was trying for a dual operation of steam and chilled water
to use during the transitional seasons, but apparently the heat got into the chilled water and sent
slugs of very warm water into the chiller tank, although the chilled water return temperature remained
at about 50 deg. F. It was perplexing why adding heat like that to the evaporator side challenged the
compressor so much, as the condenser was cool and clean.
That machine had a rotor about a foot or more in diameter, judging from the case it was in.
The operator never did that again.
The chilled water system was retro-fitted into the buildings by a mediocre HVAC company known for
overlooking important details.
Thanks for breaking it down in layman terms.
Please make a video on troubleshooting of yk çhiller (electrical/control ) section .and level transmitter calibration.
Great vid. Thanks for the info as always
