    I'm really starting to feel this project will suit my needs. I'm looking for something that I can bring on my dual Sport motorcycle to film in remote location. Usually things get gnarly and beeing able to carry everything in a small backpack with everything else needed to repair both the bike and the quad will be awesome.

    Metal bushings in the bolt holes on folding arms for sure. Will also suggest finding bolts with shoulders to them as fully threaded bolts will eventually wear out the holes.

    Really cool to see the POPO system being brought up in this video. I have some Lumenier POPO motors on one of my drones and it's a really clever way of quickly swapping out props, so I definitely see it working quite well in this case scenario.

    This project is a great idea it combines something every fpv pilot wants with more convenience. This should appeal to a lot of people, makes sense with the crowd sourcing. I hope to see more variants of folding frames in the future.

    I'm so happy it is going the foldable way! I'm all for the 3rd option. It seems to me the motors on the top arms can be config to pusher while the other 2 as regular upright motors. This means the motors sitting "inside", it will already be better protected in a crash, especially those when the quad tumbles in the pitch direction. I'm thinking tricks like Matty flip or any backwards flying where the crashes as usually because we clip the ground and the quad tumbles in endless backflips. My most common motors to break are usually the front 2, simply because of this reason.

    I really like the look of number 3, and while it may be a little heavier, it definitely looks like it will be the most compact. It looks like two motors will have to be run inverted (or not.. it just looks more natural that way.) Also, I love the idea of using the popo system, and possibly revamping it to iron out any things that people didn't like about it. I think PhantomFPV either used to run Popo a lot, or still runs it a lot, but either way, he seemed to love it. Whether the motors and props are still available and good enough currently is something I'd like to know about. Especially in 2023 and moving forward, if remote id becomes a reality.. The ability to do Rip & Dip style flying will become more normal.. And having something that takes up very little real estate in a bag, then quickly folds into a 5", with 10 second prop install, and works seamlessly really gets me motivated and excited.. and most importantly of all, it inspires me. 😎

      Some of the “frames of olde” had the back set of arms on the top plate and the front on the bottom to increase efficiency and control as the props will have cleaner air to play with. Motors were all on the top of the arms on the frames of which I speak (used to be trendy before we went more simple and utilitarian with everything)… I’m super excited about this project (brings back the creativity), it is turning out 🔥 honestly love how Tommy gives back so much, that alone makes me want to support him and his endeavours.

    I'd recommend using arms made from two pin jointed struts. This can be easily folded by removing the pin (probably a screw) but more importantly is very stiff and durable as you eliminate the bending moments in one of the planes.

    Just a thought. What I'm seeing is what would happen in the event of a crash. Will the arms be a friction locking design of have some type or a locking device with a pin or tpu. I'm thinking direction of an impact that would cause the arm to fold during a crash. I think it wouldn't be too much of an issue for an open cinematic situation, but a bit of a challenge for a freestyle flight where you might clip something. In general, a crash from striking an object based on direction of flight whether it be from an initial or post impact. You guys are doing great. Very compelling content. Can't wait to see how all this pans out.

    • @lemonsquareFPV
      @lemonsquareFPV 2 года назад +1

      Yes it can, it actually doesn’t care, motor location and direction is the only thing BF cares about to function. Think thrust vector, that’s all that matters really, you can have different motors/props… anything really… thrust vector is all that matters.

    Hey man, this is a great idea. I voted for the third option. Is this something we will be able to buy? Looking forward to your next video! Love the way you fly too man. I'm just learning fpv and built my own 6 inch. When I saw the way you landed on that boat in your "coming in hot" video. I was like, shit, I thought I had the whole landing thing down lol. I can't land shit until I can land like Tommy lol! Nice!

    Sad the votes went folding. 5" arms arent really that long. And like you said taking the props off every time to fold would be a pain and you know people are gonna wanna build and have a bnf.

  • @amen_ra6926
    @amen_ra6926 2 года назад

    Novel concept but I wonder with an arm that's a essentially a joint, how can you avoid frame resonance? If it has to be loose enough to move, how can it be rigid enough to not vibrate? From a physics standpoint is it even possible? Does introducing methods to make it more rigid contribute to weight? I've forgotten so much Physics and Dymanics from college.

    What about a central pivot x-frame locked with a bottom plate, you could make the arms slightly longer to fold past the front and back of the main body.

    I can see this quad ending up like a Mavic been pumped up in to a bandobasher. There some good folding props out there, Gemfan do a good range of them. PoPo seems to be not widely available globally with them been a GetFPV thing.

    Never seen the point of making compact drones... Either you walk and you need a backpack in which case you have plenty of space for at least three drones. Or you drive a car and you have plenty of space for your whole fleet...

    How many votes are you getting in compared to the first vote ? I'm not entirely sure the community knows what it actually needs ? I missed one vote and it looks like the community wants to build a DJI ..?? Maybe it just me not being a good ball player . If everyone was voting on how fast our cars where able to go , I'm not sure we'd agree .
