Didn't they cancel thr high republic due to insanely low sales...it has the biggest drop in reader numbers from book to book than any other book in history
Hey Nerdist! First, really impressed that you're making this video, and I am glad you are including so much information! But there are a few things I want to clarify/mention for any watchers/listeners: 1) The Leveler is a unique Nameless, the first one awakened by the Path, and one that is kept alive in stasis later into the era of Phases 1 and 3, when Marchion frees it. All of the other Nameless released in Phase 2 died in the Night of Sorrow. 2) Important to mention, the Republic has two Chancellors in Phase 2! Each serve a very different role, one on Coruscant, the other on the frontier, though this becomes one by the end of the Phase. 3) While I know you want to deal with the broadest stroke elements, I still feel a mention of the storyline of the Young Jedi Adventures, would be in order as examples of where else to find the High Republic! Those stories are canon, and connect into the start of the Light of the Jedi! 4) While I understand that the Republic's activities in the High Republic can come across as colonial or jingoistic, we currently know of no major conflicts they started, or groups they dispossessed of their land, or of any active exploitation by the Republic of different regions. While there is a war with the Togruta, context makes it sound like a misunderstanding or accident the Republic acknowledges, but that the very warrior and ritual-focused Togruta did not want to let go, causing a series of border skirmishes. But that is in Phase 2, and by the time of Phase 1, they are at peace with the Republic. 5) The Battle of Kur Nebula is related, but is not the same thing, as what the Nihil did to Eriadu. That Tempest Runner botched their ransom job, and caused Eriadu to lose a moon, killing millions. Later, at the Kur Nebula, Marchion sacrifices that same Tempest Runner as you say, and it is an Eriadu ship which boards him, killing him for the slaughter he inflicted on their citizens. 6) On the Keeve note: yes, yes she is. Phase 3's storytelling has all but confirmed it, and while the author has been very teasing for a long time about it, he's basically given up the game recently with the announcement of some upcoming stories. 7) The sabotage team on Starlight Beacon don't just release one Nameless, they release multiple ones, as confirmed when Marchion thinks of how many of the creatures he has sacrificed for the destruction of Starlight.
@@iankane1733 I feel it's only touched the so called tip of the iceberg. We now have several stories that take place in that time period which create a huge amount of detail. Only four episodes of this show so far has only shown a small piece of the picture. So far it's an interesting glimpse and I like what it has presented. Hopefully more will be revealed by the end of the season.
@@Riku_Light I watched it all. Could have been done better, especially in the character development area. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it though. I just wish a few things would have been done differently.
I still think the best material is to be found even earlier in the lore, from the Revan era, and even earlier. (Hyperspace War, First Jedi Civil War, etc...)
As for Dagan Gera: Tanalor is within the Koboh Abyss, and Dagan's exploits culminate during the Great Hyperspace Disaster; as it is a piece of the Legacy Run that breaks Koboh's moon, forcing the planet to be evacuated.
I needed this because I've only read the first book, "Light Of The Jedi" which I absolutely loved. Thanks for getting me up to speed. Also, you are hilarious. Hahahaha.
Where are the lil animatic clips from? Have they made animatics to go along with some of the audiobooks or are these from trailers/promos for the books?
This was amazing, I know I could get into the High Republic but I'm not a reader and I don't retain as a reader. I am a great hearing to retain. So thank you for all the breakdown, this was very informative
So basically the High Republic is the Star Wars civilisation at its height, before going into decline and becoming the dysfunctional mess alluded to by several characters in Episode I. Palpatine takes advantage of the growing political corruption and apathy to implement his Galactic Empire, presenting it as a way of preserving the body politic by imposing military rule on the outlying territories that tried to break away from the decaying Republic during the Clone Wars. The Rebellion dismantles the Empire and creates a New Republic which gets a lukewarm reception from the galactic public, being seen as weak on law and order and mostly just a vehicle for politicians wanting to get rich like they did during the Old Republic days. The First Order attempts to overthrow the New Republic and restore disciplined authoritarian rule (basically the Empire without the Moffs antagonising the public by openly lining their own pockets). The public refuses to get involved in the war out of a mixture of self-interest and disdain, hanging the Resistance out to dry, but arrive in numbers to bombard Exegol because they hate and loathe Palpatine. Afterwards the galaxy lapses into a Dark Age with no central government at all, just isolated planets and whatever armies are out there in the wilderness. Have I forgotten anything?
I believe that legends and canon before Return of the Jedi can loosely fit together since they have a clear ending point but after that you need to either go canon or legends because they are vastly different. But I love the High Republic because it shows the Jedi how they should be as guardians and protectors instead of glorified bodyguards for the Republic that they are in the clone wars
Nice one for breaking this down even further much respect ✊🏾 I’m a Deep Old republic fan but it’s good to hear more about what the Star Wars Galaxy was like During the High Republic for sure. #StarWarsFan

There are two canon trilogies written by him, both about Thrawn through different periods of his life. Ascendency deals with his origin and the Chiss with some crossover to the new (still canon unless Disney screws it up like they did with the Ahsoka and Phasma books) Thrawn trilogy. Both would make for a better set of films/series than the high republic but we're stuck near the Skywalker era in 5 or 6 planets.

Not to be a downer but the first High Republic book is the first Star Wars novel, including the EU, that i got bored and abandoned. I switched over to both canon (at least for fir now) Thrawn trilogies by Timothy Zahn which are fantastic and would make an amazing series/movie trilogy.
I gave up reading the second Thrawn novel because it was so dull. Enjoyed the first though. Utterly devour the High Republic stories though. I hunger for it like the Nameless need the Force.
It always has. Disney has given us almost ZERO original SW content, instead ripping from the old EU. The Thrawn Trilogy, by Timothy Zahn, was a masterpiece and Lucas himself stated in the late 90s, I believe, that he considered those books to be movies 7, 8, and 9. So many great ideas and books/graphic novels came out of that. Han getting killed by one of his kids that had turned evil? EU. Ressurected Emperor causing the MC to go to the dark side temporarily? EU. Another planet killer needing to be blown up? EU. To its credit, while The Acolyte was absolute garbage and I have nothing but disdain for its show runners as they’ve shown they don’t care about the ppl who kept the franchise alive for nearly 50 years, literally releasing a rap diss track to the fans while the show was still ongoing, I will say it had the most original ideas out of all of Disney SW. Mind you, lorewise, next to none of those ideas fit into canon and should never have been greenlit. At this point, until Disney lets go of the IP, which I don’t ever see happening, I still consider the EU as true canon and anything crap Disney churns out as nothing but a pale imitation.
@@Riku_Light True words. Its funny how Disney picks the cherrys out of the EU without saying that they do that. Personaly I think the EU was quite overbloated at the end but of course, the good ideas were made in the decade before Disney took over. And I cant really understand, why the Acolyte was not just a series about the books. I mean, Jedis in golden robes against spacevikings...that is so corny, it had to be good.

The HR was made by committee and it shows. Idk where you fall politically, but the ppl behind it were openly hostile to the original SW, seeing it as racist and misogynistic, nvm the fact that Leah, Mon Mothma, and Lando are all strong prominent heroes in those movies. It was thing in the industry that’s is only just now starting to shift that ppl making this stuff would constantly bash fans and give political hot takes, while firing those who even kind of came off as leaning the other way, whilst their costars could spew blatant hate and not be punished at all. It’s because of that BS that I have ZERO interest in supporting modern SW ever again.
@@Riku_Light Well, you have a point. But I would not call the High Republic crap. Its definately not a Highlight of the franchise. Its mediocre and the storytelling is definately clunky because of too many characters and a flip-flopping storyline. But the idea to show this part of the Star Wars timeline is quite interesting. The Jedi in their Prime and Star Wars mixed with a little Star Trek optimism is a quite interesting scenario. Better storytellers could do a lot with this. but that is Disneys big problem. No creativity in Storytelling. I think the High Republic would work very well when it would be more episodic and more oriented on Star Trek. The Jedi as another kind of Starfleet, solving the problem of the week.
