Starring: James Romick (u/s Phantom), Marie Danvers (alt. Christine), John Cudia (Raoul), Jeff Keller (Monsieur Firmin), George Lee Andrews (Monsieur Andre), Anne Runolfsson (Carlotta), Marilyn Caskey (Madame Giry), Larry Wayne Morbitt (Piangi), Kara Klein (u/s Meg Giry).
James Romick, a nowadays sadly somewhat forgotten Phantom legend.
James Romick auditioned for the Broadway production four times between 1988-1990 for various positions until finally landing a position as a swing and Raoul understudy, debuting in February 1990.
As a swing he had to learn many different ensemble tracks in the show, and in addition to that he became an understudy for almost all the principle male roles minus Piangi--playing Firmin, Andre, Raoul, and eventually the Phantom.
James Romick performed the role many times through the many years he was with the show. He left the show in 2012, after 22 years with the show. Thankfully his performance was captured in this video so we can look back at what kind of performance this Phantom legend gave!
Marie Danvers, whom first played Christine in the USA tour in 1997 and appeared in the Broadway production during this period as an alternate, before returning to the USA tour until around 2007.
And, of course, the great John Cudia as Raoul, who would later play the role of the Phantom on tour, and later on Broadway.

I saw him once as an understudy and he was AMAZING. I had seen Tom O’Leary (my fave) and Hugh and Howard and Ted Keegan and romick was a standout. I wrote him a letter with my friend (it was her first time and she was blown away by his performance) and he responded with a signed picture and a super sweet long note!!!! Wish him the best!!!
