Vidit is a nightmare for attackers like Hikaru and Dubov . he can defend extremely well and if your attack fizzles out , he is bound to punish you .
Dubov's attack barely fizzles out . Like 1 in every 5 games . He'll lose badly or demolish you but his games will never bore you since he keeps sacrificing pieces ,playing unconventional lines , taking opponents by surprise and not playing those easy engine moves
Dubov destroyed him in 23 moves or something like that, he's hardly a "nightmare" to deal with.
Hikaru is not an attacker, but yes Dubov is

@@sixdegreesofgaming1839 I am well aware of it, one game does not mean that suddenly somebody is a "nightmare" for Dubov, just like Dubov winning does not make him a "nightmare for Vidit.
It ain’t easy being a Hikaru fan. That is a one man roller coaster. For the time being I suppose, it’s back to ‘Hikaru just doesn’t care!’ 😂

No actually he lost to Vidit both times deliberately as he is there for the content, and he knows that losing to Vidit would make much more news 🤣🤣🤣
I was pretty convinced that Firouzja would convert that game into a victory, but Nepo ended up not faltering after playing only best moves.
The analysts clearly though he could pull off the win, but once again we witnessed an engine-like defense.

This is weird, as Abasov has been playing very well. Quite a few 2750+ players have had far worse tournaments than he's having so far

That critical capture of the knight on e5. You mentioned that most players would look at knight capturing instead of the bishop. But if you look at the position, white's bishop on c3 was his weakest piece, almost hanging, so why wouldn't you start the exchange with it

I didn't like naka's opening, and once he sac'd that pawn for nothing, deja vu. Remember when he blew the advantage against ding in the previous candidates? Naka choked again, losing to vidit twice. Unlikely to recover from this loss.
Oh well! Guess its back to rooting for Gukesh! Cause Lord knows Ian vs. Ding pt 2 is easily the most uninteresting chess!

I feel like Hikaru doesn’t respect Vidit in the same way he respects other players in the tournament, and that’s why Vidit keeps pulling off upsets. He feels like he ought to win, and jumps straight into ugly positions without analyzing all of the threats super carefully.
What's going on with that Lasker quote? I can't imagine how a chess move could be hypocritical.
Game was difficult to follow and understand due to excessive 'variations' being presented.
