There’s like no way Alireza would go that route on the real he’s pissed he’s felt he should not have been approached in the middle of his game the Arbiter stated his point the noise being disruptive and stated it was Abasov that had said something to him about it Alireza has also had issues at other tournament from what I’ve heard and from what Alireza’s father stated Alireza had even mentioned just not playing chess he’s having a bad tournament of course that’s going to be working on his emotions

Outright blunder, but the rook E2 move that prompted it should never have been played in the first place.

This was a great game. Abasov may finish the tournament with a pretty bad score but in hindsight if you look at all of his losses, it's not like he was getting crushed, more like an untimely mistake cost him most of the games. In this game against Hikaru he defended extremely well and I would say even outplay Hikaru before the fatal mistake. If not for that one move, everyone would be singing his praises right now. He's also found a number of "engine moves" to keep a games going, impressing the entire commentating squad. So to me it doesn't look like he's out of place at all, despite being 100+ rating points below everyone else.

I wouldn't be surprised either! Abasov complaining, FIDE scrambling to draft a rule on proper sock etiquette, and the chess world along with fans utterly flabbergasted by the sight of vibrant socks.

In the german broadcast of the game Vincent Keymer was extremely irritated, that Hikaru didn't play g5 right away and lost his advantage. He said, that such an elite player like him should see that move directly and couldn't believe, that Hikaru overlooked that. 😅
Hikaru's calculation has been a bit off in this tournament and yet he's still half a point out of the lead!
Maybe superstitious about g5 after the previous game when he played it early as black against Fabi, created a permanent weakness and lost the game
in hikaru's video, he did see g5 first with all the tactics if Black takes the pawn, but didn't want to spend too much time calculating what happens after Qc6 Rb8 Bc7 and sacking the Rook since he was already significantly down on time at that point
Next time Keymer plays Hikaru, Keymer should capitalize on Hikaru weaknesses
@@tomosborne4702 at the least, he should be tied for the lead with gukesh and nepo, but his bad habit of pressing for the win in dead drawn positions resurfaced in the second round when he did not recapture the bishop on h3 badly backfired. he's gonna kick himself if he falls half a pt short

@20:30, if you capture white knight on f3, the white bishop hangs, but so does the dark bishop, next move for white would nh4, rook can pick up passed black pawn easily.

The livestream regarded Abasov's rook to E2 as an outright blunder that lost him the game. As soon as White played bishop to E5 Abasov could resign. There was no recovering from this blunder no matter how well Abasov could play after it. They went so far as to say Nakamura invited Abasov to play the tempting E2, deliberately laying a trap into which Abasov fell.
Wasn't there the controversy of Alireza's father being barred from the playing hall for round 10?
Yes. Hamidreza Firouzja was asked to leave the restricted balcony area during live play but did not take kindly to the request. He had complained about the balcony restrictions back in round two. A slight compromise was reached but Mr. Firouzja wanted more in round 10 and was asked to leave.

Well played, indeed. It was made believable because the arbiter gave Alireza the warning after Nijat Abasov complained about the noise. (Apparently others had complained but the arbiter was trying to figure out alternative strategies but felt he had to act once Nijat said something.

I’ve been watching Hikaru’s Recaps after his games he did make mention of playing Rb7 over Rb8 he felt he liked his position at that point in the game and played the more sound move as he didn’t want to go into all the calculations it would take since playing Rb8 because of the counterplay it would create for Abasov regarding his c3 pawn Hikaru also spoke of how he had gotten a lot of negative comments because of his outing in his round 9 game the game vs Vidit he spoke of the support he had gotten from his wife which helped him bounce back from the defeat
it would be epic if he punches his ticket to the title match since he lost to vidit TWICE. remember the second round where he did NOT recapture the bishop on h3 and threw away the draw?? i did not like the opening he played with the black pieces, and it did not surprise me when he lost after he sac'd a pawn for nothing, and later played Ne5, which stockfish didn't like neither. he's gonna kick himself if he falls half a point short. had he drawn both games against vidit, he would be half a point ahead of gukesh and nepo for first. Hopefully, his bad habits of pressing for the win in drawn positions doesn't resurface in the final four rounds. naka could've beaten abasov much sooner had he played g5 instead of Bf4. According to stockfish, black's best move is Qc6, but there's no guarantee abasov would play that move.
The Indian livestream demonstrated that Rb8 is nullified by QxR. Black comes out of it with a rook, bishop and pawn for its queen and two black pawns threatening to queen.
No worries about the clock on the previous video. By the way, "OBS" is On Base plus Slugging percentage.

Hikaru cheated Levon in the 2016 candidates. For 2024 candidates, Hikaru cheated in conspiring with overlord Magnus:
1- Magnus directed alexey sarana to throw to Hikaru
2- after magnus recruited as a minion alexey after Alexey blocked Hans and beat Wesley
3 - magnus and hikaru directed the arbiter to distract alireza in 2024 candidates.
Eval bar was literally dancing the whole game.
