    We won't play with any other drummer but him. Props guys

    Rick Allen lost his arm in a car crash they tried to reattach it but they had to remove it again. But because Def Leppard are an amazing bunch of guys they didn't turn around and kick him out the waited for him to heal and learn to play with one arm. I've been lucky enough to see them live twice and they're incredible. When he lost his arm they were in between their 3rd and 4th albums and Pyromania the 3rd album had exploded and sold millions and millions of copies.

      Rick was starting to feel depressed that he might not be able to play anymore and Joe visited him to cheer him up. Shortly after that, Rick visited some engineers and designed a drum set to help him continue playing.

    I think the band you were thinking of where members died in a plane crash was Lynyrd Skynyrd 6 lives 3 musicians on Oct. 20 1977.

    Yup. Him mentioning "The return of The Thunder God!" is referring to Rick Allen making a recovery enough to be able to play with the band again. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day, and finds painting and drumming to be therapeutic healing for him.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd was the band that had Ronnie VanZant (lead singer) and others pass away. The drummer in the Rick lost his arm in a car accident. He had the drum kit specially built for him.

  • @nikgml
    @nikgml Месяц назад +1

    That's why at the beginning the singer says, "the biggest up we've ever had, was the return of the thundergod". The drummer's nickname was/is "the thundergod" and he managed to come back from a horrific car accident back in 1984 that caused him his left arm. Kudos to the other members of the band of course, who never considered replacing him. Lynyrd Skynyrd was the band that experienced the plane crash you mentioned.

    "Wait A Minute, He's Missing An Arm"
    That's correct, Kathryn.
    Rick Allen was involved in a car accident during hiatus after wrapping up their previous tour, in which the accident resulted in Rick losing control of his corvette and being thrown from the car, unfortunately his left arm was caught in the seat belt and it yanked his arm off. Thankfully, the location of where the accident occurred was near the home of a retired nurse who'd come out to render aid to Rick. The doctors had reattached his arm, but unfortunately he'd developed an infection that had threatened his life and the doctors were forced to amputate his arm to keep the infection from spreading. So now Rick uses a custom made drum kit that allows him to play the left hand beats with his left foot

    Def Leopard is On through the night, High and Dry, Pyromania, Hysteria, Adrenalize. After vivian campbell joined and all it went down bill. My first concert ever was in the Round in your face ill never forget that Def Leopard and Steve Clark!!

    • @PlacidDragon
      @PlacidDragon 3 месяца назад

      Well, you might as well say that after Steve Clark passed, it went downhill. Clark was the primary songwriter of the group. In the early years he shared this duty mostly with the other guitarist Pete Willis, but when Willis was fired from the band (between "High'n Dry" and "Pyromania"), Clark basically took over. In his time with the band he wrote or co-wrote over 90 percent of Def Leppard's music.

      Fair,y,the camera doesn't really linger a lot on Rick,to avoid the pity component.
      Then again, I saw one woman pause to look at the drum setup,with Rick's empty sleeve in full view,and,she didn't see it.
      She noticed that he was playing barefoot,though.
      He wears slipper socks,these days.

    What a song, from an amazing group, and if you want to know the life story of the band, you can watch the movie about them, it's called Hysteria, the Def Leppard story. he lost his arm in a car crash, and they tried to re-attatch it but surgery didn't work so he learned how to play drums with his feet and one hand.

    It’s difficult to verbalize just how fun the 80’s were as a teenager, the lack of online connectivity meant the only real way to socialize was to gather in groups, be they small or large. There was really nothing to distract us, the result was everyone was completely in the moment at things like concerts. I’d go to friends houses just to listen to music, often for hours. Hop in the car after school or work and just cruise, this music was the soundtrack of our lives. It’s really no wonder why people learning to play music is at such a low period now, that was one thing we had to do in a world of, well, not much to do.
    Leppard, ‘87, what a hell of a year. I will add, it did get kind of old having this on MTV like all the time.

      Agreed! I graduated in 87. I still remember the 1st time hearing so many of these songs that reactors play. Never forget that feeling! And, these guys were really the 1st exposure to "rock" for me. It was the "Bringin' On The Hearbreak" video on MTV. Wow! WTH?! And that was it. Rock N Roll forever!

    Rick Allen is a great person and good drummer but he was better on his Tama kit. Ive played in cover bands years ago and the repeated right hand single stroke then repeat it wirh the left foot isnt that hard. Having the stamina to perform like that for 2 hours or more is more impressive than playing on an electronic drum kit which most 80s bands were doing. The Cars Heart Roxeettee Even Van Halen and country group Alabama.
