- A short video tutorial to hack actual Audyssey measurements from the MultEQ Editor app and reveal the hidden microphone calibration file applied by your Denon Marantz receiver to your speaker measurements by comparing it to a clean REW measurement with the same microphone.
The header text you need to copy/paste to Notepad at the start of each measurement:

Thank you for nice Information, Good Job👍
Thanks for liking
Thank you for such an interesting video! I was wondering on how to use audissey microphone with rew in order to help in my DIY projects and I think this is exactly what I have been searching for! Regards from Argentina.
Thank you so much for this guide. I used it in a slightly different way. I have an apex 220 mic that didn’t come with a calibration file and I always noticed my measurements looked off compared to Audyssey. One time I tried to manually calibrate using my mic and it sounded very muffled. Using this guide I was able to create a calibration file for my mic based on the differences between its and Audysseys measured responses. I did use more smoothing, 1/6th specifically, because I didn’t want it to overfit.
I suggest you aslo watch my last video on calibration mics.
Heya ! Thanks for this detailed review,
Is it mandatory to do it before a1 evo nexus ?
No need
Am I missing something? Followed your tutorial up until you said "plug Audyssey" mic into mic jack of PC. I use my laptop. When I plug it in, my PC is not recognizing mic at all. What drivers are used for Audyssey mic and how to make my laptop recognize it?
It doesn't need drivers, the laptop's soundcard should already have drivers for its own mic input. Check your laptop for the correct soundcard drivers.
I noticed most of your teaching regarding Audyssey is based on the $20 app. Have you used MultEQ-X at all and do you think there is value in it? Or can most all adjustments be made using the .ady file and REW as you have shown?
I can do anything that MultEQ-X offers with multeq app and REW and more so I didn't need to buy it. MultEQ-X is easier of course and has lots of supporters so I'm not against an average consumer going for it.
@@ocaudiophile is it still possible to incorporate the Harman curve with MultEQ-X? The .mqx files do not import the same way into the json editor like the .ady files do.
What microphone model does your file apply to? In my case , the mic model number is DM-A409. Thank you
SInce there's only one batch calibration file applied to all mics, it's supposed to be the same but every mic capsule will be slightly different.
Did you take the file with mic pointing upward? Or pointing to the speakers?
Pointing up!
@@ocaudiophile After using the mic for setting up my Denon AVR1611 many times, I have found that pointing the microphone right to each speaker each time you see the AVR change from one to the other; the overall result in sound performance has been better. Being the mic pointing up as you said, it makes sense that the calibration file shows that up to 10 dB has to be added for higher frequencies. So I do assume that pointing the mic to the speaker, the overall frequency response will tend to be flatter, even in high frequency.
Hi! Im a little bit overwhelmed with the amount of technical information u have on this channel. Thank you. But, if I am starting and I only have an old denon receiver that supports the audyssey editor app and only the supplied microphone and I dont have the umik-1 microphone, where or which video should I start watching? Thanks again.
First this one:
ruclips.net/video/aZ4k04uAf2o/видео.html
But don't start applying the method there before also watching this one:

There's also one more very interesting Audyssey video coming very soon and it's also suitable for your set up.
@ocaudiophile Thank you for your reply. You have a video where you calibrated you marantz or denon microphone. Do I have to do that on my denons microphone? Also, do I just follow this video links you have provided in ur reply if i will re-do my calibration on my 3.1 setup?
No, you don't. The accuracy of the Audyssey mic is more than enough for the resolution of Audyssey filters. With the correct method, you can get very good results.
@ocaudiophile Thanks again for replying. I have been jumping from one video of yours to another, just quickly watching the videos, and you have one video where you have provided a link on the description where to get/download the calibrated file of that audyssey microphone. So, do i need to do that?
@@christiank.8035 if you want to measure your system yourself with REW, yes you need the mic cal file. To optimise Audyssey calibration in REW, you don't need that. Measurements you import from Multeq app are already applied mic calibration.
Love to know if the ACM1-X mic is worth it or if it's possible to use a calibration file with MultiEQ-X with the default mic where they've made it rather difficult requiring a serial number to download the calibration file.
All mics are similar in their accuracy except for the very high frequencies which you should normally not EQ ;)
Please, if someone else did the same test, please let us know if the results are similar or different from what is shown in this video.
Because if many folks find a very similar response, we can trust in these results, instead of repeating the whole process.
Yes it would be nice but I have merely 1000 subscribers ;)
@@ocaudiophile Come on! 1000 obsessive compulsive audiophiles are many!
You are generating good content.
@@ocaudiophile You just got one more!
Hey boss, great videos. I do very much appreciate knowledge you share for free. You're god sent. I got stuck pretty early with my setup lol, wonder if you could help? My REW (5.20.9) wont allow to choose as many trace arithethic options as it does to you? You've got option like [A] / [B] which my REW is lacking ? What am I doing wrong? Cheers mate!

@@ocaudiophile you're the best!
why did you use the same methode with correcting Audyssey curves to Harman curve and correcting an un-calibrated Audyssey mic with UMIK-1 measurements?
That doesn't make any sense ... You can't use both.
Actually, you're right but my methods improve over time and when I figure out something new, al I can do is make another video about it ;) Don't worryy, an ultimate Audyssey calibration tutorial which will override all these is on the way!
@@ocaudiophile Please note that in the notes of your older videos so that we don't end up doing something the "old" way after you come up with something better. Thanks!
you the man
Hi, can you improve my system please i own klipch thx ultra 2 7.1.2 system since i bought the denon 4700h the bass is weird and not sounds good as my old onkyo receiver please share your email how how to reach you i want you to fix it please willing to pay if needed
😂This is a Just a hobby for me and no need to pay but it's not a good idea to write my email here.
What exactly is wrong with the sound? Where did you place your two subwoofers?
@@Modestleisure Do you mean you cutoff the subwoofer correction at 80Hz or 120Hz in the MultEQ Editor app (via "filter frequency range") or are you changing the speaker crossover frequencies?
@@ocaudiophile speakers and sub are 80hz cut off
@@Modestleisure I don't understand your answer. Send me your .ady file and I will have a look.
Strange- I have opposite- I haven't done this but Audyssey sees my front 3 speakers with -20 db starting at 5K
Unless your AVR came with a different model of microphone, I am quite certain the cal file is what I have extracted in this video. Audyssey measurement results are dependent on many other factors which could be causing your response anamolies.
@@ocaudiophile REW sees them as relatively flat- because of this- and GARBAGE sound ill be using your videos to correct my system. Ive been looking for a way to do this with a separate EQ had no idea this could be done via their APP. MultiEQ-X i believe you sorta can but is a hot pile of garbage.
@@everydayguy3737 If you don't have the app, you can go all manual with the graphic equalizer. I also have a video for that. It'll surely sound better than automated Audyssey.
@@ocaudiophile Yup have both versions- If my kids let me have some sort of silence lol ill be starting the process today. THink I have most of your files/aids. Excel one is awesome for dummies like me. Going to go watch the one on measuring Atmos channels then hit up Supreme Audyssey Calibration
@@everydayguy3737 A subscriber wrote a Python script (there must be a link to it in the videos description which massively accelarates the process with no need for Excel but I personally am a bit Python illiterate so still stick with XL.
Hi, I always find your videos very exciting, but unfortunately I can't get anywhere on my own. Are you interested in helping me set up my home theatre? Details are welcome by WHATSAP or mail
Did you measure your system with REW?
@@ocaudiophile yes with RWE or Multi EQ. I have All Equipment, UMIK 2, 3 x MinDsp 2x4HD etc.
@@777Gurus and how is it all configured? I assume you use one MiniDSP for multiple subs and the other two?
@@ocaudiophile i have 4 Subs configured per MiniDSP on FLE from Marantz AV 8805 and all another Speaker per Multi EQ.
@@ocaudiophile my Setup is 5.4.4 Dolby Atmos with Top Middle and Rear High
