I always wondered about why they picked "Schlechter" instead of "Böser". Bad Wolf in fairy tales translates to Böser Wolf and "schlecht" has more a meaning of "of inferior quality" and generally indicates more of a judgment of the quality of something than its moral qualities. It's possible to use schlecht for intentions and things like that but it's rarely used for that.

@zap 4th it kinda makes sense. If it can sonically apply force on a screw in a way that allows it to turn it, why can't it apply force on other objects? Though I agree that it's kind of a tension killer with how its written into the story.
Steven Moffat tried to implement a weakness with the whole "It doesn't work on wood" thing, but I don't think that was very well-received because (if I remember correctly) it hasn't been applied outside of the Christmas special it was introduced in.

Richard Wilson plays Dr Constantine who is an actor who is much beloved in Britain for his role in the genius sitcom One Foot in the Grave (the equally wonderful Annette Crosby who played his wife appears in a series 5 episode too). Moffat's a really good writer. The problem is he's got a tendency to skip ahead in character development for the sake of plot, and an obsession with finding loopholes for death that gets a bit repetitive in the long run. Most of his episodes are really good on their own, and his season plot arcs are very well crafted, and his emotional climaxes are often strong, it's just that some of the character setup suffers a bit and there's some diminishing returns on the impact of his death loophole twists over time. No, you think of the part in the war games the final story of Patrick Troughton. But he had used the screwdriver earlier. He unscrewed the lid of a box in "Fury from the Deep"
I first found Doctor Who by accidentally tuning into BBC America when the episode "Dalek" was playing. I was like, "This looks so cheesy, but I'll try watching another episode next time it's on." The next two episodes were "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances"; I've been a huge Whovian ever since. These are some great episodes 😊

I think the prominence of Constantine's character in the story is down to the respect in which Richard is held at the BBC.
John Barrowman plays the same character in his own spin off called Torchwood. it is very similar to Doctor Who but more centered for adults. You should give it a watch when you eventually finish Doctor Who.
In general, if you see the name Steven Moffat as the writer you know your in for a great episode (At least while Russel T Davis is shorwrunner. Some people have issues with his episodes after he becomes showrunner where he has more to worry about than writing a great episode)
I have a lot of problems with him as a show runner and season 6 is an example of a convoluted mess...buttttt I found that every single one of his episodes that he put his name to have been good on their own
It'll take so long for then to catch up. This isn't Avatar that ends in 3 seasons, this is going on 10. Besides, it's a fantastic show to binge, believe me
One of the greatest new Who eps. And what I like about you guys is that if you don't understand something in Who you explain to yourselves why you think you don't understand. Observation is better than criticism. That's exactly the way Who should be watched x

"Maybe we'll see him die here and then meet his past selves" wow, was that a good prediction xD Just that it wasn't Jack, but he completely guessed River's storyline xD
No, the First Doctor did NOT have a sonic screwdriver. The sonic screwdriver did not appear until the Second Doctor's final story and was eventually destroyed during the Fifth Doctor's run and didn't appear again until the Ninth Doctor/Eccleston.
I'm getting bloody flashbacks to the first and, not coincidentally, the last time I watched this episode before today and I'm freaking the fuck out. Jesus, that kid should not be this scary
I remember being 12 when this two parter came out, it was terrifying! My Dad was more freaked out than me though😂 especially considering the amount of kids who repeated the infamous line “Are you my mummy?” For weeks after it aired.
First Sonic Screwdriver was in "Fury from The Deep" 2nd Doctor Episode (1968). It was destroyed in 1981 during the Fifth Doctor and brought back in the 1996 TV Movie and has been back since.
The medical Doctor is played by Richard Wilson, who is most famous for his role of Victor Meldrew in UK sitcom 'One Foot in the Grave.' I think his character [a moaning old age pensioner] inspired 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.'
The one Bad Wolf reference in this episode, the word that were written on the the booms is German for Bad Wolf, and the next episode the doctor does acknowledge Bad Wolf, it also is kind of, start of the Bad Wolf arc, and in the season finales, Bad Wolf will reveal itself and it's true power.
As another one of my favourite RUclipsrs, Philip DeFranco, often likes to say: _"If you tell people not to do something on the Internet, they are only more_ _likely to do it."_ It sometimes sucks that this is the case, but I do in fact think it's true. Which is why I don't expect this comment to have much effect at all. That said, I do get why you wrote it; however, I also think that writing it in All-CAPS only exacerbates the likelihood of a "contrary" response by Internet-denizens. So, even though I do get how aggravating those impatient commenters likely are, I think that -- possibly -- your Moderator job would go better if you'd try not to show that aggravation. Still, that's entirely up to you, of course; after all, it's your job, not mine.
The sonic screwdrivers are made by the TARDIS, and the second Doctor was where the sonic screwdriver debuted. However, the first doctor used a ring in the same way.
Written by Steven Moffat. I think you'll find a lot of scary/creepy episodes with his name on them Dr Constantine: the Doctor's parting words to him were "Don't forget the Welfare State", and Dr C says "Hmm, good idea". Maybe there was a real Dr Constantine who did have a hand in creating the post-war Welfare State. I've not been able to find the right key words for Google to give me anything close to the answer
Don't worry Steven.... lot's of people still like you and your Episodes. I'm one of them. Except for _Hell Bent_, of course. Kill _Hell Bent_ with fire. In fact, come to think of it: can't you, before you leave at Christmas, write a Minisode where the Doctor goes back in time and personally prevents you from ever writing that horrible monstrosity? But anyway.... my point is: a lot of people still really, really like you. It's just that those that don't are more vocal than those that do. Plus, you are the Showrunner of _Doctor Who_. It's the same as for the Head Trainer of the English National Football (Soccer) Team, or for that matter the Head Trainer of the National Team of whatever country those reading this might be from: you always get blamed for everything. Russell T. Davies faced *just* as much criticism and hatred as you do now back in his day; it's just that Social Media became big around the time you took over, so we notice the vitriol a lot more with you. I personally suspect that we will hear outcries of how much people miss you somewhere near the end of Chris Chibnall's second Series (that's Series 12, I believe) -- not because I think Chibnall is going to be bad, but because such things come with the job when taking on Showrunning-duties for the biggest fictional show on British Television, and one of the biggest on Television *in general* to boot.
No one ever said his singular episodes were bad (in fact, they are amazing). But as soon as he has the freedom for a whole storyline, he messes up badly. I'm so glad he left the showrunner position. You can call it a minority as much as you want, but enough people wanted him gone..
ANOTHER MODERATOR HAS SAID BUT i WILL REPEAT THE MESSAGE. STOP ASKING ABOUT THE GoT TRAILER. tHE CREW HAS SEEN IT AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING EDITED! PATIENCE GUYS.
I understand the frustration with impatient commenters. I really do. Two things though. The first is that you should remember that the impatience and the apparent spamming _[although that's probably more to do with the sheer number of people asking rather than with actual spamming]_ of requests for the Trailer Reaction is likely people expressing how much they want their favourite Reaction team to React to their favourite show -- in other words, it's a sign of *appreciation* for the Crew, rather than a sign of disrespect. I know it may be hard to view it that way, but I do really think that that is what's behind it. The second thing is something another one of my favourite RUclipsrs, Philip DeFranco, often likes to say: _"If you tell people on the Internet not to do something, they then only_ _become more likely to do it."_ It sucks that it is this way, but I do think it's true. The All-CAPS probably don't help. I get why you and the other Mod wrote your posts in all-CAPS -- sheer frustration, in all likelihood -- but it is the question whether the Moderation efforts are actually helped by it. While Moderators are only Human and it thus makes perfect sense to me that you guys are just as susceptible to frustration as the rest of us are, in my humble opinion actually showing that frustration while acting as Moderator is only likely to lose you the respect of the people you are moderating, thus losing the effectiveness said moderation will have. But eh, it's not my job; it's yours..... so feel completely free to ignore everything I just said.
I can't remember where, but I once heard/read that a big reason that the Doctor is able to get out of sticky situations (despite his seemingly erratic thinking process) is because of an aspect of being a Time Lord. Namely, they have a subconscious awareness of time (probability?). It's stated in the show that time is in flux, so Time Lords have the ability to semi-blindly (literally, if you'll remember the scene where he closed his eyes and stepped past the giant spinning blade in "The End of the World") go along the path that leads to the result that they desire. It's not foolproof, of course, but it helps the Doctor out immensely. I mean, the SPECIES is "Time Lord". It would be kind of weird if they were named thus PURELY because they INVENTED time machines. They must have some kind of direct connection (awareness, manipulation, etc.) to time, independent from their machines.
all of doctors except from the 1st and 6th used a sonic screwdriver and the doctor/the tardis have upgraded and rebuilt the screwdriver from time to time and this two parter was written by Steven Moffat who is a writer i think you should look out for in future.
Sonic devices are just devices that use sound and soundwaves somehow to complete their function, there's no connection between them beyond that. It'd be like saying that all blasters in Star Wars are from the same place because they're all blasters.
you can think about Moffat what you want, but in my opinion this two parter is just an upgrade in comparison to the other writing in season 1 (except maybe the finale)...
Torchwood surely has its highlights, don't listen to people above. It's different, but Children on Earth is pretty much amazing story, as most of series 2. Series 1 is just okay, but Random Shoes and They Keep Killing Suzie are great too.
Is there anyways you guys could get these out more frequent? I love your reactions to them and not many people react to Who on RUclips, I'd love to see reactions to future Doctors.

I have a lot of problems with him as a show runner and season 6 is an example of a convoluted mess...buttttt I found that every single one of his episodes that he put his name to have been good on their own
Please do these twice a week. The show is great but it will take forever to get through them all doing just one a week.
Richard King They wont do twice a week for anything again.
At one episode a week it will take like 2-3 years to complete.
It'll take so long for then to catch up. This isn't Avatar that ends in 3 seasons, this is going on 10. Besides, it's a fantastic show to binge, believe me
Agreed
Want to see Daddy David asap
One of the greatest new Who eps. And what I like about you guys is that if you don't understand something in Who you explain to yourselves why you think you don't understand. Observation is better than criticism. That's exactly the way Who should be watched x
Classic episode for this era of Doctor Who. I knew you guys would enjoy.
1) Bad Wolf was written on the bomb in German
2) really want you guys to do 2 episodes a week for this. Love your reactions plus it's gonna take 2 years to catch up to where we are now at the current pace, need more
Quite possibly the best 9th episode.
These episodes scarred me for life so I'm only here to like the video and then I'm leaving till next week 😂
Haza179 You must still be eight years old to be scared of this lmao.
ReaperCaliber Quite a bit off but yeah not bothered to admit that this shit still haunts me lol
ReaperCaliber childhood trauma
Wipeout325 exactly
Haza179 upon first watching, my older brother had to leave the room he was so scared, I was too young for the true terror to dawn on me, he was just the right age.
SweenyTodd98 the seventh and eighth doctor used it
SweenyTodd98 he had a sonic ring that was just forgotten when it didn’t fit on troughton’s finger
@@paddystrongjaw9995 it was only sonic in the big finish audio stories it canonically is sonic but was never used in the show
My absolute favorite episode of Doctor Who with my absolute favorite Doctor!!!!
Bad wolf did appear in the episode it is written in the bomb possibly in german
It is implied that the Doctor either invented or designed the sonic screwdriver.
First Sonic Screwdriver was in "Fury from The Deep" 2nd Doctor Episode (1968). It was destroyed in 1981 during the Fifth Doctor and brought back in the 1996 TV Movie and has been back since.
SGlitz the 7th doctor also had a sonic screwdriver
this episode definitely made me LOVE Doctor Who!
"Are you my mummy?" This question has haunted me for years
Never again 😶
We first saw the sonic screwdriver with the second doctor in 1967. it was used to literally undo a screw :)
Back when this two-parter first came out I had nightmares about the Empty Child for absolute ages.
Moooooommyyyyy.. Are you my mommy?
I'm glad you guys are loving these.
*DO NOT ASK ABOUT THE GOT TRAILER, THEY HAVE SEEN IT AND ITS CURRENTLY BEING EDITED. HAVE PATIENCE.*
Then this message isn't for you, obviously.
As another one of my favourite RUclipsrs, Philip DeFranco, often likes to say:
_"If you tell people not to do something on the Internet, they are only more_
_likely to do it."_
It sometimes sucks that this is the case, but I do in fact think it's true.
It's fine now, the video is out.
The sonic screwdrivers are made by the TARDIS, and the second Doctor was where the sonic screwdriver debuted. However, the first doctor used a ring in the same way.
Still one of my favorites episodes!
The First Doctor did not use a sonic screwdriver (at least not on TV, he may use it in other media). It was the Second Doctor who first used it.
3:15 - The perfect 2 and 2 of jaw dropping astonishment and absolutely unfazed.
Written by Steven Moffat. I think you'll find a lot of scary/creepy episodes with his name on them
Dr Constantine: the Doctor's parting words to him were "Don't forget the Welfare State", and Dr C says "Hmm, good idea". Maybe there was a real Dr Constantine who did have a hand in creating the post-war Welfare State.
I've not been able to find the right key words for Google to give me anything close to the answer
Back when people liked me and my Episodes
At least Heaven Sent is quite incredible.
Katie Stubbs Oh Hell Yeah! 😊
The second thing is something another one of my favourite RUclipsrs, Philip DeFranco, often likes to say:
_"If you tell people on the Internet not to do something, they then only_
_become more likely to do it."_
It sucks that it is this way, but I do think it's true.
"The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" are 2 of the best episodes in the series hands down
I can't remember where, but I once heard/read that a big reason that the Doctor is able to get out of sticky situations (despite his seemingly erratic thinking process) is because of an aspect of being a Time Lord.
At awesome con this weekend David Tennant ragged on Moffat's magical screwdriver applications. He said it's not believable.
all of doctors except from the 1st and 6th used a sonic screwdriver and the doctor/the tardis have upgraded and rebuilt the screwdriver from time to time and this two parter was written by Steven Moffat who is a writer i think you should look out for in future.
These were the first Stephen Moffet episodes, yet everybody lives.
These were the best two eps in all of dr who in my opinion
Sonic devices are just devices that use sound and soundwaves somehow to complete their function, there's no connection between them beyond that. It'd be like saying that all blasters in Star Wars are from the same place because they're all blasters.
I can't wait till the last episode of this season
YES! I WAS SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE!
I don't know why but I loved the feel of ww2 uniforms in Christopher's Tardis... it just sort of fit.
The Doctor did make the sonic screwdriver.
Patrick Troughton (Doctor 2) was the first Doctor to have a sonic screwdriver. :-)
20:25 What u mean Eric is that he's some kind of Space Tom Bombadil, not affected by a tremendous power to be tempted to do evil things? :D
you can think about Moffat what you want, but in my opinion this two parter is just an upgrade in comparison to the other writing in season 1 (except maybe the finale)...
cant wait for episode 12
I've missed this bad wolf reference. I'm on episode 10 as well. i guess I'll find out soon?
you guys need to try and fit torchwood in at some point after season 2, i miss that show
Big Finish are doing s5
1:56 Good question to ask when someone's annoying you!
3 more episodes until my favorite character shows up.
The doctor did invent the sonic screwdriver.
Won't spoil anything major or whatever, but trust me, that whole Bad Wolf thing pays off in the next few episodes, and I mean like REALLY pays off!
Just this once, EVERYONE LIVES!
are you planning to watch torchwood at the same time too?
benediktcz they should do that after season 2
They are not.
I don't see why really it's not good enough to react to
Jake Torchwood is...decent, but honestly I dont think its a show for the channel.
Torchwood surely has its highlights, don't listen to people above. It's different, but Children on Earth is pretty much amazing story, as most of series 2. Series 1 is just okay, but Random Shoes and They Keep Killing Suzie are great too.
I think the Third Doctor was the first to demonstrate the use of a Sonic Screwdriver.
MORE DOCTOR WHO NOW!
Do 2 a week please or it will take forever
Matt Smith is the best
Y'all should TOTALLY watch Torchwood
oh you'll see jack alot alright. he's quite an important character
I'm glad you enjoyed it guys. I love this episode and I think that the show really gets alot better after this :-)
They skipped: “why are we all in a railway area? “ “cutbacks”
the tula ship it's not a time ship, Jack have a time vortex manipulator in his wrist
Gabriel Castillo The Vortex Manipulator was broken in series 1
can you please do this 2 times a week like you did with Avatar, if you're not sure, can you do a poll so the audience can choose again?
Is there anyways you guys could get these out more frequent? I love your reactions to them and not many people react to Who on RUclips, I'd love to see reactions to future Doctors.
The crew prefer it at this pace. They got rid of the 2 episode a week format when Avatar finished.
I found the audio from the episode very very low. Did anyone else have this issue?
Adamas97
No
you should watch the first season of torchwood between this season and season 2 and then watch the two in parallel
btw do the guys know or were they informed about how the christmas specials fit into the timeline of the show? i hope they don't go straight onto s2e1 after they finish s1 because there's supposed to be a christmas special where david tennant actually gets his debute. well, we fans all know, but do they? i hope so.
Bad wolf goes back years
Pretty sure this is the only episode of doctor who where no one dies at all
its almost painful thinkong how long it will be before they see Heaven Sent
Alfie prolly collapsed when he was changing because he had no chair.. The Old doctor was in chair when he changed.. the soldier was in a chair when he changed too.. those 3 are the only ones we see changed
almost the end of the season :O
Bad wolf has appeared in every episode in Series 1 except Rose
11:57 "Could die here and then we just see him in his past life again maybe"
Yeah, doesn't that sound familiar
cough... sweetie... cough....
He could die... harharharharhar.
"... Just this once, everybody lives." --> Steven Moffat defining the Doctor for me, for good. I look for this in every incarnation of the Doctor now.
Moffat's episodes are usually pretty good. Most are downright awesome. (Fans are divided though...)
Oh wow, the way you describe him now... powers of a god... holy cow. You guys are so perceptive. You're in for a roller coaster ride.
I miss Gaius. Love Richard Wilson.
