I love how David Tennant got to use his actual accent in this episode.
I don't remember where I heard this, maybe an interview with Davies, but I don't think David Tennant was using his natural accent in this episode. Though he is Scottish, he was sort of playing up the stereotype here? I can't hear the difference personally, I didn't even notice the English - Sottish switch in the Eleventh Hour, but I do find the idea hilarious that this is a Scottish actor playing an English character, playing a Scottish character... who's actually an alien who might not even be speaking English. ha ha
@@hiccuphufflepuff176 This was definitely a bit of an exaggeration compared to his usual accent. Slightly heavier and with more stereotypical words/phrases.
I don't think the fact that danger follows the Doctor and Rose is what the Queen was getting at. She was more concerned about the fact that they seemed to be revelling in danger and excited by it and that *they* were the ones following danger. For better or worse, it was something she "was not amused" by. It's kind of like Eric's point about how people died terrible deaths all around them, but they were having fun.
Precisely, and RTD even said that in a way their behaviour came back to bite them in the season finale - because they acted like adrenaline junkies getting off on people dying around them, Queen Victoria created Torchwood to counter the Doctor; because Torchwood existed, they caused the events of "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday" which, in turn, forcibly separated the Doctor and Rose. It was, in a roundabout way, a form of karma for them acting like a-holes in that situation.
Borjan Kosarac Oh.
@@borjankosarac3645 oh ma god I'm mind blown lol
Precisely
@@borjankosarac3645 Queen Victoria's point sailed right over their heads--and then they call her silly. Yet they recognize that Rose is a little too high (but don't assign the cause to being around and so enamored with the Doctor). Interesting.
"The Tardis appears to have a mind of its own, and seems to always brings them to a place where shit is going down"
*You're about... 5 years too early*
i always thought that the royal family being werewolves since queen victoria was a refernce to the sickness, haemophilia, which has been documented to be around and passed down in the royal bloodline. the actual illness is passed down by females but acts up in males. there are quite a lot of historical documentaries talking about haemophilia being carried and passed down in the royal line, especially since queen victoria. i think the writers were playing around with historical facts and turning them into an in-context story line, which is nice if you catch the possible reference.
I figured something similar. _Doctor Who_ has long been known to give "The Doctor did it" -- or at least an event he was involved in -- as an explanation for a lot of unexplained tidbits in especially British history, but some things in World History as well.
yes! it's one of my favourite things about the show. whenever we get a past-adventure episode i'm on the lookout for historical references. :D
Because of his crush on Billie Piper, has anyone told Eric about Secret Diary of a Call Girl?
Hey, I was about to recommend Penny Dreadful ... then I remembered her song "Because We Want To." I wonder how he'll like a young Billie Piper dancing and singing about her generation. (Yep, she was a teen pop star.)
+Mythos Recommend Both.
Watching this reaction and seeing the leader monk guy I immediately thought "gee, looks like he would fit right in at the House of the Undying". And yep, turns out that's the actor who played Pyat Pree in Game of Thrones.
Jory Cassel (Ned's right had man) and Roderick Cassel (beard pig tail guy) also make appearances in this episode
I thought it was.
By the way the Scottish accent The Doctor puts on in this episode is actually David Tennants real accent :P
The mythos of Who is that the TARDIS doesn't always take them where they want to go, but where they need to go or are needed.
Originally Torchwood was the working title of new Who (anagram of Doctor Who) while in production much like Blue Harvest for Return of the Jedi.
That "mythos" doesn't get explained until a later Episode, making this a *SPOILER* .
Take some cues from Miss Song, OK?
Spoiler?
Is the irony lost in alluding to something else that hasn't been in the show yet.
To be fair, that had been a long standing fan theory for ages before it was finally confirmed. Same with Moffat's theory on the in-universe origin of the term "Doctor" (which he had posted on a fan forum back in the early 90's, then brought into canon once he became showrunner).
The undercover title more than the working title, I think.
Despite being Scottish David Tennant puts on a different one to his own.
I find it kinda funny that Eric is upset by the Queen's behaviour in the end, but at the same time he calls the Doctor and Rose out on the exact same thing (being reckless and laughing and going on about more adventures when people were getting killed around them) that she was. :P
The beginning with you guys being confused "IS THIS DOCTOR WHO?" was amazing. That opening is... something.
I don't have much of an attachment to this episode, except for this. The moment the Doctor looked at the werewolf and was utterly fascinated with it, was the "He's the doctor" moment for me with Tennant's Doctor.
Also, somewhere out there there's an alternative time line where we got RTD's original plan for this episode, which was that Queen Victoria would get killed and thus it would create an alternative time line in the show... Now that would be interesting to see, even if I don't know if I would have liked it or not.
Fun fact, the Doctor calling himself Jamie McCrimmon is in reference to a companion from Classic Who, who was from Scotland. And that's also David Tennant's actual accent (I mean, the guys probably knows that, considering Jessica Jones and other things, but still!).
Really looking forward to next week, my first really HYPE episode for this series.
Oh, and A+ thumbnail, Lono. A+.
I think that RTD said that alternate timeline you described, is the timeline of the parallel world we see several episodes later. It would certainly make sense too, given that world has the UK as a republic yet still has a Torchwood Institute in existence - the incident happened at the Torchwood estate, and it's early enough to create a timeline where blimps and such became early 21st-Century mainstays and the like.
I think RTD intended to make this clear originally, but (along with Jake and alt!Mickey being gay lovers) left it vague in the end for better or worse. Given that DW works better IMHO with looser story arcs that are still interconnected, while most stories are still standalone (considering the mess that Steven Moffat left of Matt Smith's middle season especially) it is understandable that RTD didn't try too hard to tie everything together too blatantly; still, viewing the parallel universe stories in THAT light it gives a more interesting context to events of the season, and for my money it makes the plotting of this season tighter and better-balanced (though it's still my least favourite of the RTD seasons...)
That opening... "They've got airbenders!"
Stephen Middlehurst my thoughts exactly lol.
I'm with Aaron...I do not remember *anything* about that intro.
Liesmith Same! I didn't think that looked like Doctor Who at all. Im so confused 😂
Queen Victoria's mandate for creating Torchwood was to combat any extraterrestrial or extranormal presence within the UK, this includes the Doctor.
Ah, Rose... don't let a minor inconvenience, like, idk, people around you DYING, stop you from trying to make a joke
😂😂😂 Marvel is shook
She's British ...
Gallows humour is in our blood
Fun fact: David Tennant is actually Scottish, and the accent he uses in this show is an affectation. The Scottish accent the Doctor puts on at the beginning of this episode is his real one!
a what ?
No it's a mockney accent
He uses an Estuary English accent for his Doctor.
@@archive9796 Well, it's not cockney, for one thing. More RP.
Best thumbnail ever.
"It looks cold a shit there". Welcome to Scotland! XD
With every passing video Calvin looks more like a werewolf...and its glorious
One reason I love British filmmaking is seeing the same actor(s) popping up across so many different film/TV universes.
Watching this reaction made me realize there are 3 G.O.T. alumni: 2 Stark men (Cassels) and an Qarthian sorcerer. Interesting timing, just as the North meets the South. It kind of happens here too.
It's called loyalty to the BBC
I love how Jory played Jory 5 years before he played Jory
Surprised you guys didn't recognise some actors from Game of Thrones in this episode. You had Ser Rodrik, Jory and Pyat Pree. Hopefully you'll notice some other familiar faces as you progress through the show.
That landscape in the beginning is a couple of miles away from my town. You right it's cold as hell in the winter! Awesome in the summer though :)
Ah the Torchwood Estate, my home...
dwhqiupipqeup it's Torchwood Boy!!!! ojojhqvoirwiogwi
Hello Torchwood Boy!!!!
3:22 It's Pyat Pree! The guy who captured Deanery's Dragons in the Season 2 finale to Game of Thrones! (I just realized you mentioned it already)
and at 6:59, Sir Rodrik from Game of Thrones!
This is the first episode I really remember watching... it's good times from now on for me too 🙏👌
Haha @ 7:00 that well spoken fool is Rodrick Cassell from Game of Thrones! He's just missing his muttonchops.
I love how, in the thumbnail, three of you are wolves, and Aaron is a Labrador. Not just a Labrador, but a Labrador PUPPY😂!
Huh, THREE Game of Thrones actors are in this episode. It's been so long since I've seen Tooth and Claw.
The guy at 1:23 is Ian Hanmore, who played Pyat Pree, the Qarth warlock.
The man he's talking to at 1:23 is Ron Donachie, who played Ser Rodrik Cassel.
And, finally, the captain of the Torchwood estate is Jamie Sives, who played Jory Cassel, House Stark's captain of the guard, who took a dagger through the eye by Jaime Lannister.
They recognized the warlock guy from Game of Thrones. I want to know if they will recognize certain characters from The Family of Blood episode and the second episode with the weeping Engels.
Ah, they skipped over Tennant's "Are we in Scotland?" lines...
I saw the thumbnail first and then the title and immediately knew it was tooth and claw
Sees eric with orange juice, " Dang it! Have a feeling for orange juice now!"
4:37 omfg are you kidding me
Funny the moment it started Shane mentioning Game of Thrones because I was wondering how long it would take for Eric to recognise Ron Donachie (aka Ser Roderick Cassel) and Jamie Sives (aka Jory Cassel)
Never takes him where he wants to go, but always where he needs to go!
1:50 That's the fun part about Doctor Who.
Every episode is another TV show, and then the Space Tourist comes rolling in and everything goes off-script.
This is 6 years old and nobody asked my opinion but the way Eric shook his Minute Maid is 100% more effective.
Do you guys plan to binge to whole series BUT only upload it once a week so you get all caught up until Season 11...If you dont do that you will finnish season 10 in 2019
Wow. I remember all about this episode, but as Aaron said, I don't remember the ninja monks AT ALL
the editing and the commentary made this video amazing xD congrats and making me cry laughing
Oh gosh 😂 Yes the into is something one would and should remember 😂😂
Calvin with that Tove Lo reference! Respect.
Comments asking you to do 2 episodes of Doctor who a week are coming.
Jorey (Ned's right hand man in season 1) and Rodrick also appear in this episode as well as the guy from the house of the undying! #gameofthronesiseverywhere
That thumbnail 👍❤️️😂👍❤️😂
mistletoe is poisonous and in the tv show Teen Wolf, the werewolves are affected by mistletoe, and of course wolfsbane
I don't remember that intro at all too but I remember really liking this episode
Legit watching this reaction from my home of bonnie Scotland. Keep the good work up boys
And THAT'S the creation of "Torchwood" which ends up aiding & abetting the Doctor more often than not. 😂😅🤣

"A nice ending to a character you didn't even know you wanted to see". Ohhh you guys have no idea what lies ahead..
This was my first EVER episode!!
I can't wait for next week! One of my top favourite characters in DW! SJS! :D
Oh my shit!
School Reunion next!
I am so excited for The Impossible Planet
IIRC, this episode caused a bit of controversy in the UK because it aired around the time of (IIRC) a Jubilee (Anniversary of the Queen's coronation) and people were a bit shocked the BBC would show this, suggesting the current members of the Royal Family were werewolves, during the celebrations....
I CANT WAIT FOR SARAH JANE
I think that you guys will be impressed by the vampires of Venice
Next episode is school reuinion. Oh fuck yes
Mind your tongues! That well spoken fool is Ser Rodrick! Master At Arms for house Stark!
Eric, watch Secret Diary of a Call Girl, dude
TORCHWOOD is an anagram of DOCTOR WHO.
The TARDIS Scanner 'camera' was regularly used in the Classic series by the Doctor.
The best example being in "Destiny of the Daleks" where the Doctor turns it on and goes "Oh look! Rocks!" As it faces a cliff face. Tom Baker is the best.
the guy litteraly is pyat pree(the warlock of qarth)
It could be argued that The Doctor seems to bring calamity as well as oppose it.
Torchwood is an anagram for Doctor Who.
I have hemophilia, I got hyped at the end of this episode when David tennant mentioned it
Did I see the guy who plays that Magician that takes dany's dragons in Game of Thrones?
You guys are going to have to do a reaction series to Torchwood now.
why does rose want her to say im not amused?
I love this episode!
Dammit Shane! Now I'm looking at that bottle the whole time.
I remember the episode but I also did not remember that intro and I don't know why. It's pretty outrageous.
It is the same guy who plays Pyat Pree in GoT
Olenna tyrell is in Doctor who season 7.
honestly this is what the doctor does to his companions he turns them into adrenaline junkies he shows them this whole brand new world and then expects them to be okay when the get thrown back into an ordinary life they are basically at war constantly and i think that's what really messes with them and changes them rose isn't the only companion to act like this another companion that the doctor picks up later on who I am not going to name also had this exact adrenaline junkie problem and in the end it cost them as well
Yay
I'm on time for THERE doctor who reaction
Omg this is such a good episode
Everyone loves it
03:45 The Prince Charles's ancestor.
You know Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who don't you?
Magic is blasphemy to Christians, look at the fuss that they made over Harry Potter. One of the titles of the monarch is defender of the faith, we have it on our coins.
even though I mostly watch them now on early access Patreon, still gotta show the love on RUclips!
Something I would never normally recommend but for the next episode a quick 'bring you up to speed' refresher on who one particular character is might not be a bad idea otherwise a lot of the story doesn't have the same impact... And that's as close to spoiler territory as I dare get!
next episode is sooooooo good.
When you think you're early but it already has over 700 views...
You noticed Pyat Pree from Game of Thrones in this episode, but also Ron Donachie, who played Rodrik Cassel and Jamie Sives, who was Jory Cassel are in it too as The Steward and Captain Reynolds respectively.
baby dragons.... ahhahhaha
This used to be my favourite episode as a kid because I was obsessed with horror films and the old Wolfman movies.
You guys did the Darth Maul thing, so I'm not expecting you to make your own show called Kung Fu Fucks.
That's why last week's Doctor Who took so long! The editor was spending a lot of time editing this episode!
this series needs to be more frequent, Its so good
OMG!!! I want expecting this!!!!!!!
are you going to watch torchwood as well? that would be awesome!
Wow, this episode in my opinion marks the last appearance of likeable Rose in my opinion, her time with 9 and the first 3 episodes (counting The Christmas Invasion) with 10 were good, yes, she did treat Mickey unfairly by ditching him for the Doctor, and other stuff between the 2 of them, but those moments didn't bother me so much. Starting in the next episode she starts to go downhill and I will try to explain why I think that after each episode.
...
Yes
You're right actually
Please do Torchwood!
Theres a great Tardis-heavy episode with the next Doctor (Matt Smith) that explains alot about its inner-workings and why they end up in the right place at the right time. I wont spoil anything, it's going to be a long time til you guys reach that episode!
How did I forget that intro?
onto another!`
I remember this episode terrified me as kid😂😂
Fun fact (ish), the staircase the wolf chases them up is actually not the same building as the house it's filmed in. I only know this because we used to do family holidays to the house the staircase is in (Treowen in Wales). There's like 30 people in my family so there was plenty of room :P
DoctorWho=Torchwood just move the letters around
The Tardis isn't a parasite. It's just a living time machine and space ship
