    thanks for the video, i bought my spring off ebay and it wasnt a bmw original, i had problems at the rear end i.e. the ball and socket end. the socket end of the spring was slightly different to the original in that it had a small piece of spring steel on one side presumably to make it more secure and stop it popping off when in use. i found it impossible to push the spring onto the ball in situ and was going to give up but noticed that the ball was actually threaded into the bodywork of the car and was quite easy to remove. i used pipe pliers to then clamp the spring socket end and the ball together and it popped in ok, i used grease on the ball and socket and put a spare nut on the thread of the ball to protect the thread.(it would have been much easier with a vice but i dont have one at the minute) , it was then quite easy to install the spring and screw the ball end back into the body and its working fine, cheers derek

      Derrick I owe you big time, even my new OEM part was hard to pop back on my driver side ball stud. Unscrewed few threads like you nailed it, poped back in and it is good like gold and new. (It just neede d a few extra mm to pop back right in and then tightened back the ball stud to the body, I personally think it was an EXCELLENT design.) You saved me a trip from the thrieves waiting like a hawk to burn your wallet at the dealership.

    At 5:34 / 7:24 of the video it shows that you could easily adjust the length of the spring to fit. However with mine (new bought online) I can't even stretch it by 1mm . Is there a locking device that needs to be released on the new spring to be able to adjust the length. I am aware that the left (shorter) than the right (longer) spring.

    • @indyguy5570

      One side is for opening the trunk and the other is to assist in closing it.

    • @sgopal9
      @sgopal9 Год назад

      The plastic piece on the left side should be straight, when the rt spring breaks the left one becomes like a noodle and twists, pleae make sure it is straight by checking, else the new sprint will give up sooner then its full durability life cycle and offcourse they sare designed to premature fail for easy opening/closing functional balancing purpose and they should installed correctly on both sides. Also in case of rear impact the truck rentension could save your rear windshield.

  • @thedrmteam100

    I ordered the left and right one from ebay. The right one went in fine but the left one was not angled like the original and was not going on as you can’t really twist the bottom part that needs to be pushed into that round button looking thing. It creates too much tension on the spring and just won’t work. So I put it in the other way from the top end with the end of the spring facing upwards…it did go in both ends but then the spring was flicking due to the tension when I was opening and closing the boot, so that didn’t work either. I’ve sent the seller on ebay a message so just waiting for them to reply…I put the original left one back in and the boot opens much better now so my right one was the stuffed one.

    If you order the part off Amazon it will have a pin in the ball joint that MUST be removed to get it to fit on. I actually had to still lightly wack with a rubber mallet to get it on. Then I couldn’t get the pin back in. But at least it’s fully on. Without the pin removed, it worked but it wasn’t completely fitted on. Probably would have fallen off. This video doesn’t mention the pin on the Amazon replacement part at all. 😕
