There are no underrated Dire Straits songs. They are multimillionaires, they have sold millions of copies of each album. On RUclips, all the songs are ‘underrated’. Those who don’t know what to say write: “Underrated.
This music.....almost my whole life derives around dire straits. Such great rifs and emotion. The guitar is the leadsinger, the voice tells the story. Best eargasm ever!!! Fan for life!
I was born 1985 dire straits is on a different level, I have friends hard-core rap music fans when I interduse them to dire straits for the first time it's always a joy to see their reaction and how immediately recognise the talent
@@nadjibei dont understand that some people did not hear this. Music nowdays is so simple. This has underlaying additional complexity end is beautiful. My kids , now 9 and 12 also love this music but also like the new stuff. Thats ok, but they will appreciate it later on in life. Good music is unreplacable. Have a nice day!
I was introduced to this song simply because of the movie "Once Upon A Time In The West"(I searched the name on RUclips and found the song there). Great movie, perhaps the best.
You can’t go wrong with Mark Knopfler, songwriter, storyteller, guitarist he’s in my top 10. I have about 6 or 7 of his albums and he’s still writing 😊
Thinking back to 1980. It was 6 a.m., on an early July morning. I was a passenger in my friends Red Alfa Romeo Roundtail Spider. Coming home from an all night party. He drove through an urban garden estate for half a mile, deliberately tearing up the grass, scaring the couple of pedestrians. And we had "Once Upon a Time" on the cassette player.
LET THIS BE A WARNING TO MYSELF: "Yes, and it's no use saying that you don't know nothing - Still gonna get you if you don't do something. Sitting on the fence, that's a dangerous course - You could even catch a bullet from the peace-keeping force. Even the hero gets a bullet in the chest - Oh yeah, once upon a time in the West"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mark Knopfler!! 74 beautiful years, more than half giving us beautiful music!! To him, to John Illsley, to David Knofler, to Pick Withers and Terry Williams, to Alan Clark and Hall Lindes and Mel Collins on the Saxophoooone !!!! For me ALL are DIRE All HAVE 74, and ALL are the same, and there wouldn't be Dire without them ALL. Even if it was just for another brief moment in time, just like in the Beatles or the Stones creative tops, it seems like Euterpe roused again from the Greek ashes and gave us music HISTORY!!!
drove from WA,across the nullarbor 1979... played this on cassette all the way to bondi !!!! LOVE IT STILL"", six blade knife, also JJ CALE, JONI, NEILand the EAGLES !!! TIMELESS..
Thank you so much for the upload. Thi is definitely one of Dire Straits' masterpieces! I really asking myself how many Dire Straits songs are not really a masterpiece?
@btsr2553 The only one I can think of is 'Walk of life'🤣. I really don't like that song (though I don't hate it). In my humble and worthless opinion DS's first two albums are the greatest albums in the history of music☺
@@AgentRafa Thank you 🙏 for your comment. I also agree with you. "Walk Of Life" was and is in my opinion a rather commercial Dire Straits production from the album "Brothers in Arms". Songs like "Walk Of Life" remind me of "Twisting By The Pool". What was seamlessly integrated on the "Making Movies" album, such as "Skateaway", stands out on the "Brothers in Arms" album. It's not that I don't like it, but it's one of the Dire Straits songs I got a little sick of. But that's because of the commercial production of the song.
I am 20yo and i consider dire straits the greatest band to ever walk on earth literally a num1 fan and i always noticed how i feel young between alkthe fans seems to be ogs but that makes me feel proud to be a ds fan since i was 8 My dad had a vinyl of the first album but he never really used it i tried it once and it became my favourite since i didn't really understand much when i was a kid, growing up i never really let go of it until i started discovering their discography and from that time i never really stopped listening to them amd still always my favourite

Love reading the comments of different memories and experiences, one comment saying it reminds him of sunny beaches and surfing the complete opposite for me, rainy autumn days in South Wales. A fantastic track and album whatever or wherever.

I love their first two albums. After Mark's brother left a major part of their signature sounds was lost. Their subsequent albums were okay but it had become a different, more radio oriented and polished group.
Im not even a dire straits fan but im a fan of this song.i still think that JJ Cale influenced Mark Knoflers playing.but for now i going to sit back and vibe to this

£7.87 on cassette in the basement of Easons on O'Connell Street, Dublin, in 1989: the first song of the first album I ever bought was this. Have mercy!
I’ve heard a few of their hits but it’s their full body of work that in 2024 that’s impressed me as one commented “ Eargasm “. That would be a good title theme for an album !
I have never heard a groovier, straighter progression of seemingly wildly changing 3/4 and 4/4 bars than in the verses of this song.
...maybe Sting has this too .
Only Mark and him
Talk about it shit
No one has produced as many great eargasms as Mark Knopfler . My music addiction
Eargasms...!😂😂😂
❤
Very Funny!
And that my friends is a fact.

Once upon a time ..here...again❤❤❤
Thi is definitely one of Dire Straits' masterpieces!
The whole album is!
