Hi, and yes, in a way you're right. We chose the term "fluorescent" since it's a more general term for material that emits light whoch it absorbed before. And to make sure that also people who are not english native speakers would have it easier to understand. Thanks for watching!
Dear S Walton, please have a look on our website. Here is a link for you. The German handmade Warwick Custom shop instruments are made from Bubinga. The Pro Series Models are made from Ovangkol. warwick.de/en/Warwick---Products--Instruments--Made-in-Germany--Warwick-Series--Thumb--Thumb-Bo--5-string--Features.html warwick.de/en/Warwick---Products--Instruments--German-Pro-Serie--German-Pro-Serie--Thumb--Thumb-BO.html Cordially, Anne
It really depends on the woods used more than anything. The neck joint is crucial however. A bolt on harnesses most of it's tonal energy from the body wood, less from the neck. Whereas a neck thru gets most of it's tonal energy from the neck wood, and less from the body wings. So if a neck thru bass has a maple neck with mahogany wings, it's still going to be fairly bright sounding. A bolt on bass with a Mahogany body and maple neck will be much darker sounding.
Got a different point view here: In my experience, the majority of the sound quality is related to pickups and equalizer. Wood does not matter that much, if you got a good set of PUs and an Eq. you can balance that out. Of course I wouldn't go to the extreme of saying that you can make a bass with a crazy material like resin and still sound good with the right PUs either. Body and neck material do influence but pickups are the crucial part. You can have "good" woods, and if they don't have decent pickups it will suck, on the other hand, if you got "generic"/average woods like basswood with a good set of PUs, you can be impressed how they will upgrade your overall sound.
Played one of these unplugged the other day. Awesome bass, if I had 3 grand I probably would have bought it on the spot! On another note I played a $3800 PRS and it felt nowhere near as good. Honestly it almost felt like a Squier.
The problem with Andy Irvine in videos like this is that he'd get an encore precision copy to sound amazing with a wide variety of sounds via playing skill. Of course Warwick basses sound amazing anyway!
It's not about "big" or "small" words, it's about using general (more commonly used) terms rather than specific (less commonly used) terms that both describe the same phenomenon. It was not directed towards bass players, but to people who have a different mother tongue than english. Thanks for watching!
I just got a brand new thumb bass like the one here. I can't play bass as such and only got it for fun. But I'm sure gonna start. I'm ideally a lead guitarist but this is looking like a lot of fun so I pulled the plug.
Should do a new vid as the BO has changed a lot ... I ordered a Thumb BO6 that I got a few weeks ago and it has an ovangkol body, wenge neck and finger board, the just-a-nut III isn't made of brass but something like graphite
ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION: ive just bought an amazing thumb bo 5 and i see that the lower b string it's smaller in the end of the string. I'm asking WHAT KIND OF STRINGS I CAN USE ON THUMB 5? Thanks a lot bye
There's a shop in Melbourne selling them (new) for around $3200. If you're actually referring to the NT, then they're about $6900 at the same place. Not "nearly" ten grand IMO, and I think you were referring to the bolt-on version?
Hey, I was just funnin' with you! BTW I love this bass and I will be picking one up shortly. It happens to be used so it doesn't come with a truss tool or a hard shell case. Is there any way I can get these from Warwick? Thanks for replying.
SERIOUSLY though, I'm in the market for a new 5 string and this one sounds good. I did play a 4-string version of this bass about ten years ago in Miami sound checking Chris Cross, how much does this cost??? (really)
I was thinking about buying one of the 2014 Warwick BO4s, but the retailer says that the body is now ovangkol as opposed to bubinga? Is this true or an oversight? :-\
I had one of these left handed. It was very nicely built. I personally thought it sounded like shit, and the balance was WAY bad. Serious neck dive. You wanna slap, get a Stingray. Oh and now that I've watched the video, mine came with a gig bag. Not sure if the seller ripped me off or if that is just how they did it in the early 2k's, but I am never happy with any instrument that has a gig bag at $1k+.
I have a question about the pick up placement on the thumb basses. The neck pick up on the 4 string is in a position you'd expect to find it, but why is it right next to the bridge on the 5 and 6 string version?
hi im thinking to buy a pro serie but i really dont like the chrome hardware can i change it to black??? i dont see any option to do that on the website
What Bass amp Head is he using? I have a Peavy MarK VII Solid State Amp but it never will get the roar or thump a Tube amp will get I am looking at upgrading the head or placing a Tube Preamp, any ideas or recommendations. Thanks
Dear +Dean Lutz , in this video he is using a Warwick LWA1000. Here is a video about it: ruclips.net/video/0qoKV15yMho/видео.html . Best regards, Michael.
i really hate the looks of the thumb but the wenge and bubinga makes the soun really BIG AND FULL! Also i preffer the corvette $$ is more versatile and the slap tone i way better!
The Warwick Thumb should be great with any genre, but if you look around you'll see that there's quite a few bass guitarists out there using Thumb basses. Remember, it's all about EQ but the Thumb should definitely help you cut through the mix! No, Warwick did not pay to say this.

Easily one of the more beautifulest instruments ever built.

It's adjustment, I've tried one today and you can have plenty of mids by using the bridge pickup more
