Agreed!! As much as I loved Jan since her SNL days and she could have been a great fit for the show, I feel that by the time she joined the cast...the dye of the show being a former she’ll of itself had already been cast.

This was my Grandma's favorite show. We watched it every week. I miss her and I watch this, Martin, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and 60 minutes to honor her memory and reminisce with laughter.
Lol I remember those days at my Grandparents house but for us it was General Hospital, Young and The Restless, The Golden Girls, The Nanny in the mornings and evenings The Steve Harvey Show, Martin and Living Single reruns.
I love the outpouring of love for Alice! Seeing them all together again is amazing. I rewatch these reunions every time I binge the show again. Such a great show!
She wrote television roles for women that were interesting and substantive while being funny and charming. THAT, was groundbreaking! 😌👏🏆 We wouldn't have alot of the interesting and amazing shows with female leads if it wasn't for shows like this. 🧐
I remember when Lifetime used to be so bomb and had all these great reruns of classic sitcoms and did special reunions like this. Though I confess I never actually seen a full episode of Designing Women but was always more a Golden Girls person.
@@rowendacarter8790 I've always heard that Designing Women completley ripped off The Golden Girls and it does seem a lot like Golden Girls with exception to having Meshach Taylor but both are still very successful and beloved to this day.

I adored this show! Too many favorite episodes to pick just one but the one with Dolly Parton is among the top 10. One minute I would laugh, the next, I was in tears. Very touching

I never liked Alison because she was too bossy and pushy! Carlene was sweet and childlike but she wasn’t Charlene who had a brain underneath that sweet childlike fascade!
They really don't make sitcoms like this anymore. Genuinely funny and sharp shows with amazing casts and writing like Designing Women, Golden Girls, Frasier, Martin, Living Single, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sanford and Son, The Andy Griffith Show, Good Times, The Nanny, Married with Children, Fresh Prince, The Honeymooners, I Love Lucy, Original Roseanne, My Wife & Kids etc. All such hilarious shows tv needs today more than ever.

Yes. I can only remember one line from Julia to Allison in those entire seasons. The show was totally forgettable. In contrast, I remember dozens of whole scenes and whole eps with the original cast. They were hilarious. The characters, the chemistry, the comedic timing,- they just lost so much when Delta & Jean left.
In my opinion,the best, most meaningful, and poignant tirade was in season 2, episode 4 “Killing All the Right People” when Julia was yelling at her friend Imogene because the latter was making offensive remarks about the women’s friend Kendall who was dying of A.I.D.S.
I remember one episode where they discussed buying a lottery ticket. We didn't have a lottery. Love when shows set in the South have few, if any southern writers.
Everyone, all five, look marvelous....Jean's hairstyle is lovely and Annie in a pixie cut that's dark, not red ! I've recently heard chatter of a reboot, however, it should be of limited episodes just to get everyone up to date, and maybe tie up any loose ends from 1993. I'd hate to have DW turn out like Murphy Brown did---unwatchable. Meshach's description of the ladies was very good but the best was during the Dash Goff episode.
They aren't "so thin"! They look to be a healthy weight! Everyone TODAY is OVERWEIGHT so in comparison to our obese world, they look thin, but there was a time when EVERYONE looked like that and obesity was rare. But then came fast food & sitting on our asses all the time, and now obesity is a greater health risk around the world than hunger. Everyone has copied the American diet and lifestyle.
Oh I LOVE THESE LADIES. I LOVED BJ too. It would’ve been awesome to have had her earlier that just the last season. “Alison” character totally ruined them. They got canceled b/c of Sweeney but BJ..Judith Ivey...made the last 2 seasons a real hoot! But Bernice and Anthony made me laugh every time they were on the screen.
Who was SWEENEY?? Alison was played by Julia Duffy. Also, you contradict yourself, saying in one sentence that BJ was only in the last season and then 2 sentences later saying she was on for the last 2 seasons. (From what I remember, she was only on the final season.)

@@melanieballard8669 Jean left right after Delta did. She was only in the first 2 eps of the following season to explain Charlene's leaving & set up Carlene's character. Suzanne Sugarbaker was also a great character & well written and Delta owned that character. She was a fantastic comedic actress.
Isn't it amazing? Everyone else is REALLY showing their age, but she still looked good when she & Jean reprised their roles and did that charity read of the first DW episode on YT!

I disagree. This cast is the cast that made the show a big hit. People stopped watching the show when the brought in the replacements. That's why the ratings dropped. If people didn't want to watch them THEN, they certainly don't want to watch them NOW. No, this was a reunion of the cast that had the CHEMISTRY that made the show successful, and the replacements would have been like 3rd wheels tagging along on a date. I don't think they would have even WANTED to come because they know that. This reunion was so precious and so short. We could watch a whole season of them telling stories and watching clips of their scenes together! I wouldn't have wanted the other 3 taking any time away from the original cast. The show just wasn't as good after Delta & Jean left.
Rest in peace, Dixie, Hal, Alice and Meshach. Gone to soon.

The idea is there, the execution however... is not. For video quality in 2003, this is grossly blurry and annoying. Sorry. Not gonna watch it.
