I wish there'd be a "Designing Women" reunion on "Young Sheldon:" Jean Smart and Delta Burke would be key characters to a Meemaw (sub)plot. The closing tag would have all three watching "Designing Women" making tongue in cheek comments about the show and themselves (the actors).
I always LOVED this show. I was in my early 20’s, my parents found out that I was dating men, and showed me the door. I remember dragging a piece of luggage to a pay phone to call my then boyfriend wondering what would become of my life. This show made me laugh, something I really needed back then. When CBS premiered “Murphy Brown” a few years later, and Monday night became “Murphy Brown” / “Designing Women” from 9 to 10, I always looked forward to laughing out loud that night. I never worked a Monday night again, and I recorded EVERY episode. I still have 2 boxes of VHS tapes, including all the 80’s, 90’s commercials. When I met my future boyfriend in 1990, he learned to laugh along with me, and to this day, we can still quote lines. Yes, we’re still together, this year will be 31. I had a cancer diagnosis a few years ago. Matt would leave for work, and I would watch my DVD’s and laugh all day, when I wasn’t crying. One of my all time favorite lines was when Charlene was reading a tabloid and asking the others if they thought it were true that “Jackie O and Tony Danza could be dating?” I still laugh like it’s the first time. My all time favorite episode was “The Wilderness Experience”, “I washed that skillet when she told me to” “Then you called her “Eddie” to her face”. Thanks for all the laughs, I love all of you as much as I love Lucy.
My partner of 26 years feel the same about these shows!! We memorized every mine, had them on VHS, except we added the Golden girls to our repertoire. We’ve been together since 1995, and in 2021 we are still together blurting out our lines no matter where we are, or who likes it, lol!! He would play Julia all the time, and I would play Suzanne. The Civil War house, and Stranded, Are our two favorite episodes
I would love to know if Delta was even afforded the opportunity to participate. I know there had been some bad blood through the years, but no one, and I repeat no one, could ever replace Delta Burke as Suzanne Sugarbaker. Her absence made me very sad. And what can you say about the beloved Dixie Carter?
Year later she, Linda and Dixie Carter reconciled. In fact, there was a short lived spin off series for Suzanne called WOMEN OF THE HOUSE....didn't like it at all.
Love this show, but with all respect to Annie Potts, Charlene was NOT stupid. She was naive, inexperienced, and unsophisticiated compared to the other characters, but she wasn't unintelligent. In fact, it is her trusting nature and lack of worldly cynicism that save the day in so many of the show's sitcom plots.
Where is Delta Burke for this reunion?????????? I understand the Dixie Carter & Meshach Taylor have passed on RIP💐💐👼👼 But at least Delta Burke is still alive. She should have been asked to be part of this reunion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Devlin Adams How do you know she wasn't asked Devlin? Designing Women was a favorite of mine and I know Delta's time on the show wasn't as memorable and enjoyable as the rest of the cast. But yeah, it's kind of like the elephant in the room that her absence wasn't addressed. 🤔🤔
@@der22672 : whether she was asked or not I don't know all I know is that it's not the same without Delta Burke , & she's still alive. I just wished she was part of this reunion. Video because the other lady playing Delta Burke's part, doesn't sound to Southern to me
Antenna tv did a marathon of designing women all day Feb 11 for us who wasn't into the pro football playoff. at 10 every night antenna tv plays it. Love it.
I don't know the title, but the one where Charlene's childhood friend was in a domestic violence situation was a moving one. (Another commenter answered my question, the episode was called 'The Rowdy girls.') Thank you!
@@istateyourname4710 that was a good episode. I could have done without Suzanne's Supremes blackface, though. She'd been acquainted Anthony long enough by that point to know that was inappropriate.
The Rowdy Girls helps illustrate why the replacement women didn’t work. Charlene could be a bit ditsy at time, but she was deeply principled and had a big heart (similar to Edith Bunker). They never could have carried off The Rowdy Girls with Carlene (Jan Hooks) as the main character in that story.
@@jaredjlinden Agreed. Carlene was just dumb. DW could have done without both replacements. Anthony also deserved better storylines at the end. It was like Linda didn't know how to write for Anthony when he was in a relationship.
I live in West Tennessee and a friend of mine lives in a town adjacent to McLemoresville where Mrs. Carter was born. I saw her family home and the cemetery where she’s buried. I remember it making the paper here obviously but I didn’t expect all three of them to come down for her service. That was very classy.
I was pleasantly surprised that Kyra Sedgwick could speak in the manner that Dixie Carter did portraying Julia! I didn’t think anyone, these days especially, could ever come close to it. Brava Kyra Sedgwick!! ❤ 👏👏
I cried from just remembering that episode. Listen I love Annie Potts and Jean Smart, they are perfect. But this will never be okay without Delta Burke. It's just not okay.
Seems like a fucked up thing to say. Like you're basically saying "Screw these other two actors and the show creator." Maybe just don't watch and keep your keyboard silent?
Little bent out of shape there Jimmy. Jean Smart and Annie Pots are great actresses. But for me, Dixie and Delta made this show. It's called an opinion. I said I wasn't sure about it. I will of course give the reboot a shot.
I wish Designing Women would come back for these times. With character actresses playing, Charlene, Mary Jo, Julia and Suzanne. It would be fun to have Jean Smart, Annie Potts and Delta Burke. and someone to play the Julia character. I was in my 30s when it aired and I still watch the reruns. I have blouses in my closet like the ones that the ladies wore. I removed the shoulder pads.
Love, love this show! Still watching reruns: So intelligent, so funny ! Fabulous cast and writing. Great, relevant topics , also. Wonderful, unique❤❤❤❤❤❤💞🥰🥰🥰
I thought Kyra did a really great job... possibly the only person who could play that part in Dixie Carter's absence. At the beginning I wasn't sure, but I think maybe she was just a little nervous, because then she settled right in and did wonderfully!
What are they talking about? Did they do a table read of the pilot ep recently? Is that on YT? I'd like to see it. Can you post a link or the title of the vid?
@Victor R. You're making assumptions about writing and casting that has never even happened. That said, I do agree against a reboot. I'm not a huge fan of reboots. Writers need to create new great shows instead of trying sell scripts by capitalizing off of people's nostalgia.
Love the "rowdy girls" story!! Makes me want to rethink my reaction when my 11 year old daughter comes home from school with grass stains... I can scrub away the stains, but I wouldn't want to scrub away that "rowdiness". :)

I loved the actor who played Col. Stilfield. He and Charlene made such a beautiful couple, and was the perfect guy after all the Mr. Wrongs Charlene dated.
I loved Designing Women. I loved the character of Mary Joe. As a teenager and an African American woman my family still called me Mary Joe! I was short, sensitive and sensible like the character. And I loved her clothes. I loved jackets. I wore short tailored jackets just like Mary Joe did. I worked nights and my brother would tape the show and I’d watch it later. Ms. Burke probably had no interest in being there because neither of these women stood by her when the creator/producers were making her life Hell. The only cast member she remained friends with was Mr. Taylor and she was the only cast member to attend his funeral. Ms.Burke and Ms. Carter were the very best part of Designing Women.
