Julia Sugarbaker taught me how to be a strong, classy, assertive Southern Woman. Rest in love, Dixie. You were one of my greatest influences in my life.
Designing Women is one of the few shows in TV history that affected me as a person. I watched it religiously when I was young and it taught me to be brought of my Southern heritage and proud I am a woman. And can I say Jean and Annie still are as awesome in their roles as they were back then.
I love Annie Potts and Jean Smart. Delta Burke was greatly missed! Although Dixie can't be replaced, Kyra really nails the character! I was impressed... she should do the night there were no lights in Georgia
She really did. A perfect blend of doing Dixie’s characterization justice and making it her own. As soon as I saw that Kyra had the part, I had complete trust in her. That was really fun.
Jean and Annie both still look amazing!!! So happy for Jean on Watchmen too, she is incredible!!! Update: I have to add that I’m truly astonished there weren’t more people watching!!!😯
No one can ever replace Dixie. No one can replace any of these women. They are all so different but if you think about it, how can you pick a favorite? They all offer some thing the others don’t. It’s a package deal.
They did a great job! Loved Leslie Jordan. My parents went to the big Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and said the sweetest Sunday School ladies were the character names of the racy-iest women on the show! Ms Bloodworth Thomason had such a funny sense of humour. Kyra and Wendi were wonderful! I miss Jan Hooks SO much. Thank y'all!
Kyra did a fantastic job of channeling Dixie Carter. At times, I would just listen and have to look again to make sure she wasn't lip-synching to Dixie's original performance. Wendi was good as Suzanne, but there was just something different in the vocal inflections. Not bad, but she put a different spin on the character, which was great. And Leslie as Ray-Don was hilarious! Especially the little added lines at the end of his scene!
I don't like Wendi as Suzanne at all. She doesn't even bother with a southern accent. Nothing about her is like Suzanne. Kyra is so so as Julia Sugar Baker. I wish Delta Burke would have participated. Than at least we would have 3 of the original actors. I loved Designing Women! I watch 2 episodes every night at 11PM on antenna TV.
Bravo!!!!!! Jean and Annie never missed a beat on their characters and Wendy definitely channeled earlier Suzanne before she became an even better version in later seasons. Kyra, omg, close your eyes and you can hear the amazing Dixie Carter! She sounded like Julia and this just makes me so sad that we can't have the original 4 ladies together anymore.
I love and appreciate that you pointed out "earlier Suzanne". Much like Karen Walker, Suzanne's character grew in size and flamboyance over time. Both of these characters where a bit more subtle in the beginning.
Joel Beyer lol totally. They were definitely funny in the beginning then both women became comedy legends once they took full control of their characters
They didn't part on good terms. She just did an interview and it was sad how she was treated. Still one of my favorite shows . Lost a cpl of boyfriends because of it lol and I still watch every episode
Oh LOVED Oh Suzannah!!! I actually felt for Suzanne at the end of that but big sister Julia was right when she told her that it was best for Lei Sing to go
That is my favorite episode...along with the one where they model for a weird photographer. Suzanne gets annoyed because he kept telling them not to smile. Lol
Extremely late to the picture here so to speak. Georgia native here & absolutely love the idea of doing a "reunion" show. It'll be diff but changes happen in life. Of course no one else can truly be the characters we've already lost (prayers) but I will definitely be checking out the new show. Many thnx for all the laughter, encouraging words, and profound insight in life you all have contributed to countless people throughout this country!!! Looking forward to the new show .. until then .. Seize the day .. b safe & well .. God Bless❣️✌🏼❣️✌🏼
Delta declined to participate. Wendi McLendon Covey is playing her part. So sadly we only have Annie Potts, Jean Smart, and Scott Bakula from the original pilot cast.
@@importantverbs I've run the DW website for 20+ years, so I still have some inside sources. Delta has a great relationship with Linda and the cast, so it's nothing dramatic, but they also weren't the ones who set this up. I don't know know any specifics as to why she couldn't participate, just that she was of course invited before they went to another actress.
Jean and Annie are still great. Kyra is the real deal, but someone forgot to tell her that Charlene is not pronounced like Sharlene. Instead, the ch sounds like “Charlie”.
I love this one so much! Jean Smart and Annie Potts still knows the whole script by heart! We missed Delta Burke on this one though. But I must say, no one can ever come close to Dixie Carter. ♡ Anyway, bravo to everyone!
2024 and just finding this. It was fantastic and so funny. So wonderful to see the originals who participated and the "stand-ins" were incredible. Well done everyone.
OMG!! Thank you ALL so much for this. I used to see Jean a lot with the late Kasey Rogers who was on Bewitched (yes, Jean, I still have that awesome red toilet chair from Calico Corners!! LOL)
This was great! I was a big fan.. Loved seeing Annie and Jean reprise their roles, such great actresses. Miss seeing Delta.. Also RIP Dixie, Meshach, Alice and Jan. I think Kyra sounds like Dixie but there was only one. Thanks for doing for the cause and for your millions of fans and followers!
Loved this! Designing Women is one of my favorite shows ever! This reading was great!! I really liked Kyra, Wendi and Leslie❤️ Delta was missed though!! RIP🙏🏻Dixie, Hal, Meshach and sweet Alice✌🏻❤️
Fantastic! One of my all time favorite shows. So sad not to see Delta Burke as she would have added so much, but it was incredible to see Jean Smart and Annie Potts in these roles again! And lets not forget the late great Dixie Carter and Meshach Taylor! The show would not have been the same without them! This is one for the history books!
Kyra, thank you so much for playing Julia's part!! I have loved this show since I was a teenager, when it was on TV - you are doing a wonderful job!! My gosh - all of you are doing a great job, bringing back the funny memories!!!
Oooohhhhh the sweet memories this brought back. I’m going to have to go watch some episodes now on Hulu. Annie & Jean instantly fell into their familiar roles. If I closed my eyes I’d swear Kyra was Dixie. Thank You All for reliving a great memory for us❤️❤️❤️
A lot of lines changed from what actually aired. Particularly in the “Ray Don” scene. Mary Jo never mentioned studying French art. Ray Don just walked away and didn’t get upset. Also, after Julia made that comment about the bracelet Susanne just said doesn’t he have great taste. And there never was a scene with Mrs. Sundemeyer that I recall. Just an observation. This was great. Jean just fell into Charlene like it was yesterday.
I was hoping to find out where the Ted kicking dogs came from, they seemed to include scenes that were cut, but that dialogue was not part of it. I loved seeing the original cast, wish Delta would’ve been there, but at least we had what we had. Love to Dixie and Meshach.
This was so cool to see this little reunion, Gene and Annie look great as does Scott. Cheryl Lee Ralph is still beautiful to, Gene Smart can really morph right in to Charlene Frasier.
Kyra was almost creepy in this because I could have sworn at times she was channeling for the one and only Dixie Carter, so much so that I could close my eyes and it was 1986 again.
And Kyra is absolutely right: Without Julia Sugarbaker in “Designing Women”, there would be no Brenda Leigh Johnson in “The Closer”. Of course, another regular in “The Closer” was G. W. Bailey, who played Sgt. Luther Rizzo on “M*A*S*H”, several episodes of which, in turn, were written by Linda Bloodworth-Thompson (of “Designing Women”) with her writing partner Mary Kay Place.

Kyra! What a tribute to Dixie! Fantastic. Wendi was great as Suzanne. Everyone else was great, sooo happy to see Annie and Jean again. I miss Meshach and Dixie so much :(
This show has meant so much to me throughout my life, I still quote Julia Sugarbaker at least once a week. Annie Pots and Jean Smart I have followed both of your careers as much as I was able. I remember Annie all the way back to Corvette Summer! I wonder if Annie and Mark Hamill became good friends early in their careers as he has with so many other cast mates. And, Jean Smart, I think I truly love your heart, and your career choices - you are my favorite American Actor especially for you most recent roles. The Watchmen, Fargo, 24, Legion, Angie Tribecca, Garden State, Sweet Home Alabama, and so many others. I hope you know how much joy it gives me to see you appear on the screen. Delta!!! You are Suzanne Sugarbaker!! I was so looking forward to seeing her here. I loved the way she would shake her head when she'd try to be innocent, but Julia knew better!
If they ever tried to bring it back I think Cara Sedgwick would be great as Julia, if they just honest to God couldn’t pull it off because fans are too in love with Dixie Carter (and who could blame them) I think Cara would be great for the part of Randa trying to get the gang back together in the aftermath of Julia‘s untimely death. Who else but Randa could inherit Julia’s legacy of beloved Rants. #TheNightTheLightsWentOutInGeorgia.
