I used it for like 25 levels before I gave up because of the tedium. So, I'm not just talking out of my ass. :) 👉Telekinesis is pretty great. ruclips.net/video/__PxT2BSqZc/видео.html
That's just it, the atronach is only really good for under-leveling, its bonuses become more underwhelming the higher level you go. If you're staying at level 1 the bonuses are big enough to be worth circumventing the downsides for.
I think the biggest upside the Atronach had in Morrowind is that it really gave you a tonne of extra magicka (especially if combined with being a breton or a high elf), and stunted magicka is not as big of a deal in a game where your mana doesn't regenerate in combat in the 1st place
It's main value comes from the glitch with telekenesis that allows you to absorb it, with more than 34 mysticism you start gaining magicka from absorbed telekenesis spells which you can eventually utilize in spellmaking to make all the spells you cast free
It’s mysticism, and at 33.3 repeating skill is when your spell cost is exactly the base cost, so at 34 skill you’d start seeing slight returns, and at 100 skill you’d see a x5 return. Yes I am the “um ackshually” guy but only for oblivion, I swear.
@theoldknight85 no you're right i'll correct my comment. Not to make an excuse but it's 3 am so my brain is not functioning lmao so i got my stuff mixed up Also your vids are great too keep up the good work.
The Telekinesis stuff is cool but the problem I have is that it takes a bit too much investment into stacking multiple spell absorption effects and a school of magic that is probably the worst overall to really come online. If I play a mage with conventional Willpower based magicka regeneration and channel similar effort into fortifying my magicka with enchants or using Restoration buffs I can get some truly absurd regeneration anyways without spamming a filler spell. So yeah, after playing a Breton Mage, a High Elf Apprentice and Atronach I prefer the non-Atronach signs.
You telling me oblivion is a game with horrible balance and scaling? I am shocked, shocked! Well, not that shocked. One of the reasons I can't play oblivion for long is because of the scaling - if you don't run specific builds, the game becomes near impossible 30 hours in, while simultaneously being the easiest thing ever 20 hours in. Granted, mods do fix the issue, but the scaling was so bad in oblivion it really is a head-scratcher as to how it got past basic QA.
The real bonus is to make mages a whole lot less threatening as long as you are not focused on magic It's not that big of a drawback to not have regeneration. It is a nice double edged blade which provides a great boon and a big drawback to keep it from just being overpowered. It is a good sign on the right character and a awful one on the wrong one.
That's the most theoretically sound way to use it, but it still fails in practice. Mages aren't that big of a threat in Oblivion like they are in Skyrim (at least in my experience). Also, even non-mages use heal spells during combat. You end up locking yourself out of an entire method of combat and your ability to heal mid-combat, in exchange for resisting a scamp's fireball.
The only way I made it work was duplicating Welkyn stones which constantly take weight in my inventory and require me to constantly hit a hotkey to regenerate my magika. It sucks and it feels like driving a car that constantly needs to pull over for gas.
You can fix the no regen downside by just picking restore magika ingredients and making a bunch of restore potions. Flax Seeds from around the western side of Skingrad, and Steel-blue Entoloma caps from around Weynon Priory, the middle of the talos plaza district, and in the arcane universities gardens.
everyone seems to think that playing a mage is required if you choose Atronach? no. the reason people like Atronach is because it's the only birthsign that makes playing a pure warrior actually bearable.
Yeah, if you play a warrior, the Atronach is literally just positives. Warrior is kinda exhausting to play. Having to chase those stupid mages and archers constantly running away. xD I prefer being the stupid mage running backwards.
My biggest gripe with the Atronach sign for both Morrowind and Oblivion is that it requires exploiting it for it to be usable, yet people claim its the best sign that everyone should use.
You don't need to exploit in Morrowind. Anytime I make an atronach character in MW I either go in knowing I won't use magic or I set my mark at the imperial shrine in Wolverine Hold if I do use magic, because Sadrith Mora has fast travel access to everywhere. Not much of an exploit.
what are u talking about? just be a dark elf, atronach sign, go to an oblivion gate, use fortify fatigue, smash enemies with a claymore, enemy fire doesnt need to be dodged, nor do the flame turrets Gain magicka back fairly often from flame atronaghs and scamps, enough for healing anyway, use the restore magicka wells to keep topped up too It has a strong niche versus the frequently most difficult game area, giving you a nearly 90% (87.5%) fire damage not taken right from level one, and sets you towards magic immunity with more sigil stones or enchantments of absorb magicka and its main use is to shrug off a certain debuffs that even if you resisted 50% would still be an issue, burden 50 points when near max carry weight will still lock you in place since ur over encumbered by still if u had 50% magic resistance instead, 1 second paralyse at 99% magic resistance still floors you and works as basically 1 full second of paralysis Its just fairly good since it has a strong niche use case, which cant be said of all stones
this. choosing atronach pretty much invalidates all of the difficulty within Oblivion Gates. Also, the free regen from the turrets and the wells is something that literally everyone overlooks (not even mentioning welkynd stones and alchemy, which everyone overlooks)
Atronach is great if you use it right. Atronach on a Breton means even more ways to resist magic, Atronach on a Dunmer can mean almost 100% fire immunity. Plus, Welkynd Stone's and alchemy pretty much offset not having magicka regen, and that higher mana pool is actually useful early game, especially for conjuration mages. Atronach Breton Battlemage is one of my favorite ways to play Oblivion, running around with a greatsword and light armor, slicing melee opponents and blasting ranged opponents.
Well, then the developers didn’t have a deep understanding of magic, only superficial ones, and how they made the atronach constellation, apparently there wasn’t enough beer
When I was a kid and whenever I made a mage, I would play a high-elf with atronach birthsign, and get one of those stones that fully restore mana from the first dungeon (vilverene?) and then I would use the item dupe glitch (the one with the bow) to dupe those. Fun times those were.
i find breton atronach mage to be very fun and it gets much easier to manage alchemy when you know where to get your ingredients. blue steel mushrooms around chorrel and flax seeds around bleak flats cave. by the time i run out of potions the plants have respawned and once you hit 100 alchemy potions are never a problem again. this is of course with level management meaning level 25 is my "max level", leveling beyond there in oblivion is just asking to live in mathematical hell no matter your build. there's also the ol, summon a weak spellcaster like a ghost and fight it for free magic refills strat. i also play oblivion with a set of honor rules: -no infinite effect stacks, infinite gold exploits, or infinite free anything. -no self telekinesis absorption -only save scum in retaliation to the game being scum to you. -no silly paintbrushes unless it's really funny. -fast travel can only be used from civilized area to another [because oblivion haaaad to remove all the porter services!] -no illogical rests so i cant rest for 6 hours in an infested ruin but a 1 hour rest in a defensible location is allowed. -max level 25. this is for my sanity but also it encourages leaning into a build rather than becoming the everything blob. -roleplay restrictions. holy magister of julianos isnt joining the dark brotherhood... all of this comes together to grant a much more enjoyable and immersive experience.
Nah, i got almost 700 total magicka at the end of my save game using this birthsign, i only used 1 mod that affected it a bit (be able to use robes and armor at the same time like Morrowind).
my issue with morrowind and oblivion is that as soon as you understand how spellcrafting or alchemy works, the games just break completely. You could say "just don't abuse those systems" but the balancing mechanics are so bad that it's often easier to self handicap by not using them at all.
I used it for a few of my characters, usually with the intention of abusing 100% spell absorption and recharging it quicker than waiting for the passive regen. The main problem is that regenerating after battles is not a big issue regardless of the route you go for, but in-battle regens are nearly impossible unless you're dancing around your opponent or hiding around a corner, which adds more moving parts to each battle. It is definitely usable if you really want to use it, but the added complexity really made me not want to bother with it. Even for my warriors, the defensive boost is good, but lacking regeneration unless you put in as much effort as a mage main makes post-combat healing even more of a hassle.
If you're a warrior shouldn't you just wait an hour? The atronach gives you stunted magicka, not stunted health. Your health should restore to full on wait.
@@alienplatypus7712 I usually do self-imposed challenges like no-fast travel, no wait-to-heal, etc. So spamming restoration spells out of battle is my go-to.
One of the main reasons for which in my opinion playing mage in Oblivion is nowhere near as painful as in Daggerfall or Morrowind is not only magicka regen, but also the fact that absorb magicka enchantments are relatively common, you can always absorb mana from enemies by hitting them, even if your melee is not gonna do all that much damage due to the lack of weapon skill. Also spell absorption is available on many items so starting with 50% makes it significantly easier to eventually achieve 100%. I still don't think it's a good sign for a mage, but should be pretty decent if you're using magic sporadically.
Well remember there's always the take their magica to use to fuel the spells to kill them combo it just depends on how soon you can afford to make your own nice custom spells. Annoying that it limits you but that's what mods are for but if you insist on playing vanilla to make it fun there's always the frenzy calm magic user who never fights but just pops popcorn and watches groups fight each other and makes bets or the summoner who just summon swarms of stuff to fight and pretends it's gladiator arena as you oversee the matches
@@Imperatia Well just remember to include debuffs in your spell or enchantment for the high level mobs in late game but they hit each other hard so it over pretty fast unless its healer vs healer aka _extreme slap fight-night_ then you can fix the fight/save time. Plus easier than summons lagging the game out. Frenzy, then fear if you want to be a mob herder to have epic fights, as the 1st group chases the aggro'd fleeing pawn, you can even reverse pickpocket any potential mark on the perimeter. Many options, happy trolling.
Truly it's an added problem to this already broken game, but more so for those who don't understand the mechanics and are casual players. Once you either minmax a pure mage or work on undertanding some of the mechanics behind, you become unstopable, specially as magicka is harder to increase than other attributes. And once you understand how conjuration, mysticism and magical staves work, the magicka regen becomes not as burdenning. Lorewise i would interpret it as a magical disability, not only adding a layer of dificulty, but in universe being a challenge to mages, just as people in real life struggle to be healthy with their birth deffects and nutrient defficiencies. Maybe if the NPCs reacted certain ways according to your birth signs that would more impactiful for role-playing, in this case prejudice from your mage colleagues, as though you are able to cast more and more powerful spells, you still need assistance of magical items or others to help you replenish your power.
I agree because I use alchemy a lot in the elder scrolls and at first if I use alchemy then not problem but it hard to find a second pair of the same effect of Magicka by once skill 100 alchemy then walk in the park
Maybe I dont understand Oblivion mechanics that much, but can't you just use Absorb Magicka spells to counter the Atronach sign?
