Cool video. I enjoy morrowind because you are made to read between the lines when it comes to character motivations. As others have said, it is a mutually beneficial relationship. I would have preferred Aryon instead of Neloth in the Skyrim DLC. Makes me wonder what happened to our forward-looking wizard lord.
100%, Aryon would be much more interesting to see than Neloth I'm also saddened that Fyr didn't make an appearance in 4E, it'd be very interesting to hear his opinions on Thalmor, dragons, or how Shouts are a cousin to Dwemer tonal architecture
From all the Telvannis in Morrowind, Neloth was the oddest choice to come back in the Dragonborn DLC, nearly every other one would have made more sense. Neloth in Morrowind had minimal dialogue, didn't care at all about anything outside of his tower and business, and in most playthroughs would more than likely end been killed by the player for the Robe of Drakes pride, for the Hortator status (due to him being overly hard to deal with), or simply because he was a dick. In Skyrim though, we meet a friendly Neloth that not only is interested in dragons, dwemer ruins, red mountain and black books, but even rewards the player and respects pacts, and even talks fondly of his memory of meeting the Nerevarine. Why not just bring back Divayth Fyr in the first place?
I am a Morrowind hardcore fan, but the thought of a nature of Aryon's quests - like you described here - never occured to me. Is... Is this a mastery of storytelling?
I believe it is also sort of implied in the dialogue files (not sure if actually used), that Tel Vos was originally an imperial fort which Aryon conquered, not an architectonic pet project like most Telvanni-centric mods suggest. That'd paint him not simply as a progressive councilor, Hlaalu-sytle, but rather an aggressive opportunist, an actual threat to the Empire.
Always thought it was a bit of a shame that the Telvanni we most interact with (Aryon) is an exception to how the Telvanni tend to behave. He's very calculating and measured, which is far removed from the petty and insane squabbling that every other council member seems to be constantly engrossed in. But if you're joining House Telvanni, the faction known for being run by insane wizards, you kind of hope you're going to see a lot of insane wizard stuff. But instead the main point of contact is this logical, reasonable man who always acts with intent. I do like him as a character (and he definitely is using you for his own ends but that isn't necessarily a bad thing) I just wish we got to see more wacky wizard hijinks as a part of the main Telvanni questline, and all the wacky stuff is just very brief side quests where a council member is usually just indirectly telling you to go murder some random person so you can steal their enchanted shoes or whatever.
I like Aryon, but the later half of the Telvanni questline is _just_ Aryon, which I don't like. The Telvanni councilors have a better showing during the Hortator quest, IMO. The House questline is still good, but it would have been much better if it took advantage of those insane other Masters - like you said!
I wouldn't say it's an exclusively Telvanni thing though: Crassius Curio mostly works on his lonely crusade against Camonna Tong's influence on House Hlaalu and succeeds if Nerevarine decides to aid him despite Curio's... advances. I think House Redoran's arc is the only one where Nerevarine's intervention does not drastically alter trajectory of the House. Well, barring the possible existential crisis from seeing Tribunal destroyed, but we see in Skyrim Redoran weathered that just fine.
I never put much thought into Aryon's quests past him wanting to improve Telvanni from being run by a bunch of insane old people, but this makes a lot of sense. Great video! You'd better take back that Jar Jar comment though...

I thought you might've fixed it in the mean time, but it's present in this video too. Please try to fix that, I mostly like to listen to these kind of videos while I do other stuff, and it really bothers me when one audio channel is inexplicably louder than the other one. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

@Imperatia Well, specifically I've only seen the Factions ranked video, the Waifu video, the Mysticism spells video and this one, and all of them had this issue. I would suggest using earphones to check because I don't think it's all that noticeable on speakers. I'd also like to say I'm more sensitive than most about this sort of thing so it might not be as egregious as I made it out to be. If you could sort this thing out, I would be very grateful and pleased.

There is a mod in progress that'll let you become Neloth's mouth (Taskmaster of House Telvanni), with that update aimed to come out this month.
