I daily a Orient Mako XL and its super comfortable, rugged, and has better accuracy than my Seikos. I think they truly are THE entry level powerhouse to beat, and hold the spot that Seiko used to own.

This right here. Love my Mako XL. Looks normal on my large wrists. And has a +2.5 second movement. It’s never failed me. I’m definitely interested in this watch if I’m looking for a companion watch. Got mine for $194 Canadian ($150USD) and think it’s the best deal I’ll probably ever get for a watch.

I'm wearing my green Kamasu, even as you speak. It wears so nicely, is slim enough on wrist, easy to read, and looks more expensive than it is. Not having the round indices means it doesn't look like a sub copy, or like a Seiko diver. Yep, I still rate the Kamasu very highly.

I ordered a Seiko SRPD63. The QC was poor, the dial had a scratch and the bracelet was cheaply made. Returned it and bought Orient Triton Green dial from Jomashop. Extremely happy with my purchase! Excellent watch for the price.

I bought the green one about six months ago. Turns out it was one of my smartest purchases. I kept hearing how great the green/orange looked in person and I was not disappointed. At all. Didn't think I would like the nato strap but it started my love affair with high end nato's. Also that eliminates any issues like lug to lug (my wrist is just over 7") or anything involving the bracelet. I'm not really a green watch guy - this is my only one. It's one of those rare watches that people notice. Nothing else I have looks like this, is more accurate, more comfortable or a better value.

  • @waynejrice
    @waynejrice 2 года назад +5

Love mine. I got the green one, which looks black in lower light, but green when it's brighter. It's really nice. It keeps great time and it's also super comfortable. I love that seconds hand. All that, plus an in-house movement for just over $200 USD? C'mon. Now, if they could do something about those hollow end links and the cheap sound the bracelet makes . . .

Well you can certainly look at it as the Kamasu's bigger brother. But I see that as Orient's attempt to provide a substitute to the SKX, with sapphire and a better movement, but with a longer lug to lug which is bit of a downer.

While this one isn't technically ISO the latest spec says that all indices need to be lumed. That might be why it is there. Those Turtles technically no longer meet spec. This is why Seiko added a partial marker next to the date on the SPB line.

Superlative video as always. I have many Orients made in Brasil in the Seiko/Orient factories (some 200 m water resist) with the humble 469 caliber and still advances 2 to 4 secs a day after many years of use. I have been collecting watches sinde the 50´s ( I am old) and I am still amazed because even my 1960´s Orients stll works really fine,; wedo not have watchmakers in my land (all dead or into their 90´s) . Cheers from Patagonia, Argentina.

I have six Orient divers: Ray II, Kamasu, Triton Lite, two Triton/Neptunes and an Orient Star. The new Triton Lite wears a little better than my older Triton/Neptunes, being a little lighter and thinner. The lume is the same as the older watches, which is the best of my 100+ watch collection. The other Orients may use the same lume, but the shape/size of the indices on the Tritons makes for better readability. I do prefer the longer minute hand on the new Triton Lite and Kamasu over the the older watches which have a rehaut.

  • @bogrot69

It's an excellent watch for the money but the previous version ran on the caliber 40N5A. It's the same movement that powered Orient's M-Force models and their 1500 - 2000 dollar Pro Saturation Diver. A lot of folks were disappointed with Orient's decision to downgrade the Triton. Regardless though, they make some fantastic watches!

I have the green/orange model of this, and have had it for over a year now. I've also got the special edition kamasu you reviewed (the red one) earlier this year. Without a doubt, the "Triton" feels like a more well-put together watch than the Kamasu. For the small price difference, if you can wear a watch with those longer lugs (I have a 7" wrist), the Triton is the clear winner for me. I've swapped straps on both, and indeed the Triton wears very nicely with a rubber strap. My friend has the green dial/bezel stainless steel one and it looks sharp too. We wish he could find a bracelet replacement for this watch as easily as you can a Kamasu. It would take it to the next level.
Also, my young son asked me to tell you he likes your X-Wing on your shirt today. It matches his Lego set he has, and he hopes you have a great day!

  • @AlkQubit

Even though the Kamasu is smaller, I prefer the beefier look to the bezel. Also, the indicies look nicer on the Kamasu dial, just looks more classy and easier to dress up. And the day/date is framed and placed well, as opposed to the Triton. Lastly, the Kamasu came in that beautiful red dial, so that’s what I went with and it’s a beauty! The only thing the Triton has going for it, is the size.

Nice review Jody, I've owned the all green Triton II for 6+ months. I've worn it on the OEM bracelet, added a milled clasp to the bracelet, tried it on a jubilee ala SKX, several NATOs and currently on a green Barton dive strap. Couple of points about the T II, it uses essentially the same case as the original Triton but the spring bar holes are different so no joy using the StrapCode Triton bracelets. I'm not happy with the tiny 1/2 indice at 4:00 but it is in keeping with the original Triton which had a slightly larger indice. The hand set of the new T II has better proportions to the dial than the original IMO. I love the original w/ the PR but EPSON put the kibosh on regular Orients using PR movements. The 40N5a movement was retired several years back, the F6N is cheaper to produce. What I (and I suspect are many Orient enthusiasts) await is the release of a stinger yellow or tangerine dialed T II.

I'm not sure if the "new" Triton deserves the name. The older version is nicer and was a good alternative to the Shogun. That role has been handed to the Orient Star Diver - superb but expensive. The new Triton has been a bargain all year. One advantage it has over the Kamasu is availability of upgrades - Strapcode have a brilliant jube bracelet, LCBI make lumed inserts to fit, and they are great on waffle straps. I have an 8" wrist though, YMMV

Nice to know that the triton is a big boy. I was thinking about getting one but now I realize it’ll be too big for my small wrist.

Hey! I thought the Kanno was Kamasu's big brother? Maybe I should take mine back?

The placement of the day window ruins it for me.

Too bad they don't have a blue version of this watch. :( And hard to understand!

Another great review Jody, do they still make the USA II ? It was sapphire, day/date, drilled case, solid end links, I think. I should’ve bought one when I had the chance. Thanks

43mm is just too much for me. I love the Bambino, but divers aren't what I check Orient for. Cheers!

Funnily enough, I ordered one of these (green) yesterday. Fully expect the price to surge now Jody has bigged them up! Already have the Jaguar Focus version, and I'm a huge fan of this model - probably more so than the Mako II or Kamasu. The case fits beautifully, the indices are substantial and proud, everything is well finished. I suspect my new green one will want to go on a rubber (I'm thinking black Hirsch Accent), based on the standard Orient issue (jangly but comfortable), but couldn't say for sure as the Jag comes on a leather NATO.
    Great review, Jody. Thank you!

I've got my black Kamasu on the standard bracelet, the green one on a Strapcode Jubilee style, and the red one on the Strapcode razor bracelet. Comfy any way you wear them.

@@blacktoothstavros2606 While waiting for my green one I was shopping for straps. Decided to wait till I got the watch and could really see what shade of green it is. Turns out I like the nato it came with so much I never consider removing it.

Very Seiko with typical jangly bracelet. The best feature for new is the applied markers and depth of dial colour. Pressed clasp is awful despite a bit of polishing. For the price point it offers okay value. Not for me.

In my opinion, the Kanno is a much better looking watch. I believe it’s a 44
