Say what you want about zack being repetitive or playing only pentatonic but I have seen Some of the greats live such as Yngwie, Steve Vai, Satriani, eddie van Halen....list goes on and I can honestly say his playing style live was the most explosive and entertaining thing I've ever heard out of a guitar live. Hands down!
Yes, yes, yes. First saw him live 2011 in Dallas with Judas Priest. I too have seen many of the greats live over the past 45 years and never seen anyone shred it like Zakk. To say I was blown away is a huge understatement. Zakk sits on the throne of all the guitar gods!!!
Saw an interview with Zack on RUclips about his playing style. The interviewer asked him and he said something like "I didn't;t want to sound like anyone else. If I played the Harmonic Minor Scale I'd sound like Yngwie, and if I used the Melodic Minor I'd sound like Randy (Rhoads), so all I had left was Pentatonics and Chicken Pickin' ". Love his playing - his technique is staggering, but his emotion and feel are even more so.
Yeah, he does repeat alot of shit and basically use chromatic runs the whole time because he hasn't learned other parts of the scale. His energy is great, but his lead is average compared to the greats you mentioned.

Same here. I add John Petrucci to it.. nobody had the pure raw explosiv rock sound like Zakk. It blew me away!
He can shred alright. But lacks variation. It gets boring after a awhile. I am guilty of doing the same thing.
