    Hi @the Nerve Doctors. A question. P5P is indeed much safer than the other form. But I also read quit some anecdotes of people on P5P with a low dose whom still developed (neuropathy) symtomps after using it only for a month. So is it really that safe?

    • @Mithril_Antimarr
      @Mithril_Antimarr Год назад +3

      I have read many stories about of P5P toxicity at high doses also, however I can only talk about my experience, I used to use high levels of PHCL (over 200mg from different supplements before I became aware of the danger) and frankly the health impacts ie skin issues on lower legs and hands, sensitivity to blue light from computer monitors and other minor symptoms were a big concern. Frankly I think this all comes down to dosing, in Europe I think the maximum safe daily B6 from supplements is 25mg, but they are thinking of lowering that to 12mg, in places like the US and Australia it is still 100mg (our regulations tend to lag behind Europe). While P5P does seem to be a safer version of B6 I have no way of assessing how material that difference is as noone seems to be able to scientifically quantify it. I now get only 6mg of PHCL from a daily multi vitamin and I'm fine with that. It is worth remembering that health websites usually indicate that 2-3mg is all the B6 you need for optimal health, yet most supplements have 50mg+ B6 in it. So I suspect that appropriate dosing is just as important as the type of B6 taken. Interestingly a lot of the supplements pushing high levels of B6 also include ALA which is known for it's use to detoxify high levels of B6 (as well as heavy metals), it is weird seeing some supplements with both the cause of problems and the solution.

      Vitamins are all cofactors of each other so you can’t just take one vitamin you need to get a micronutrient test done and take the vitamins you’re not absorbing. Some people have a gene mutation called MTHFR which means you can’t absorb b6,b12,b9 and if you’re only taking b6 I could see how it can possibly not be good since all those vitamins are needed to make blood and healthy nerves

      @@dingding2489 The B6 form pyridoxine hydrochloride is definitely the worst for causing neuropathy and toxicity, but some people also become toxic from the supposedly safe P5P form. The daily requirement for B6 is easily obtained from food. No supplements needed for B6 ever.

    Based on the provided information, it is not recommended to use B6 in the form of P5P daily for neuropathy. Although the exact threshold for toxicity varies among individuals, research suggests that peripheral neuropathy can occur at doses less than 50 mg, and when people are taking multiple products containing vitamin B6. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor the total amount of vitamin B6 intake daily and consult with a healthcare professional before using P5P for neuropathy THIS IS NOT MY OPINION ,its something I found.
    Can you please explain why some in Science are saying B6 in the form of P5P is not a good idea ?

      Hi Robert. This is an excellent question. Yes, this happens rather frequently where during the first month of treatment, the symptoms will intensify. This is due to the stimulation of the nerves. It's a good sign, because it shows the nerves are trying to regain proper firing, however it can be bothersome. This usually begins to subside by the second month. Blessings.

    Dr. Valeri, in your narrative you said taking 100mg of B6 Pyridoxine HCL for two years or longer can cause nerve damage. Well Dr. Valerie in that case my daily intake of vitamin B6 for more than 9
    years since 2015 it is more than two years. I am still taking the multivitamins each capsule contains a B6 as follows:
    One capsule of Daneuron contains, namely: B1 [100mg], B6 [200mg] and B12 [200mcg].
    One capsule of GNC BIG 100 contains B1 [50mg] B2 [30mg] B6 50mg [as Pyridoxine HCL] B7 [100mcg] B9 [400mcg] B12 [100mcg].
    From these two multivitamins, I take 2 capsules Daneuron as directed so the total daily value of B6 from Daneuron is 200mg x 2 capsules = 400mg. In addition to 2 Daneuron capsules of B6 [400mg] daily, I also take one GNC BIG 100 capsule B6 [50mg]. Thus the grand total of B6 I take a day amounts to 450mg [400mg + 50mg]. As the B6 I take daily from these two multi B-vitamins has already exceeded through the years of 100mg would have caused me nerve damage by now. So what would be the symptoms of nerve damage that I should have now or face later in the near future and should I meantime cease taking the Daneuron [Product of Indonesia] and the GNC [Product of USA] altogether. Your expert advice Dr. Valerie please.

    I belong to a B6 toxicity group and many people became toxic from taking p5p. Also, isn't it true that labs don't test for pyroxidine hcl levels. They test for pyridoxal 5-phosphate. Which means people are converting the synthetic form into the active form and becoming toxic from p5p. I know B6 is very important but I am reluctant to try it after getting toxicity from 25mg of pyroxidine hcl daily for 2 months. I wouldn't be encouraging people to take high doses of p5p because there is a big risk of toxicity.

    • @NerveDoctors
      @NerveDoctors  2 года назад +11

      I like to see B6 levels above 60 ng/dL and B12 levels above 900 ng/dL (also reported as pg/ml). This means often the levels will be elevated above normal levels which is what we want when trying to repair peripheral nerves. These elevated levels are not harmful because B-vitamins are water soluble, meaning your body will discard what it can't use through your urine. Just make sure you're using Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate for your B6. Blessings.

    Great video and good information 👍 I subscribed to the channel.
    I would also like to say that the classic form of B6 (pyridoxine) most often gives harmful effects when the cofactors are missing.
    No B vitamin should be taken alone, especially in large doses, because without the others it would be ineffective and would cause problems over time.
    To obtain a good result the B vitamins should always work together.
    The same B6 wants synergy with B2, B9, B12, Biotin.
    In some people who have a problematic liver, the conversion does not occur and it is the unconverted B6 that remains in circulation that causes problems.
    Furthermore, many cases of neuropathy caused by classic Pyridoxine were caused by poor quality supplements and the problem was solved by using pure, pharmaceutical quality supplements.

    Hello! SOMEONE PLEASE MY COMMENT!
    Okay, so at the advice of Dr. Berg (love him and this is not an attack against him in the slightest). However, I have been taking nutritional yeast almost on a daily basis. Somedays up to a 1/4 of a cup or more.
    Recently I've also been taking B12 and B1 sublinguals that also have the bad kind of B6 included. I'm type 2 diabetic and have been for years. Uncontrolled for the most part. Also through the advice of Berg, I have been taking Benfotiamine & Alpha Lipioc Acid and for quite awhile, the numbing, burning and tingling on my feet, sometimes hands, and now legs, that I was feeling, had been pretty much nonexistent. Then all of a sudden, within a few days ago, I'm experiencing peripheral neuropathy like I've never felt. I mean this is mega bad. There's sharp pains going from my legs to my feet, buttocks and hips. I want to cry so bad. Just all of a sudden, this happens.
    My question to the Nerve Doctors (or anyone who might be in the know); what is the next step I take since I'm currently going through the painful nerve pain? My 1st guess is to not take the supplements with the bad B6 included (nutritional yeast, the garlique tablet and the 2 B sublinguals). Now what's the next step? Do I get a blood test, which the doctor I have isn't the best and she doesn't know much about supplements??? Do I putchase the good B6 supplement and start taking that? What about this awful nerve pain and extreme burning in my feet that I'm feeling as I write this?
    This is so darn crappy. I can't believe this. I was doing so well. I had no glue I could possibly overdose on this stuff.
    Thanks for allowing me to vent. I feel so lost.

    If bloodlevels of b6 are (too) high without taking any supplements: could this mean that there is an absorbtion-issue and that there could be a hidden b6 deficiency?

    • @NerveDoctors
      @NerveDoctors  2 года назад +6

      This is a great question. First, let me address that it's extremely rare to find elevated levels of B6 in the bloodstream without taking an abundance of B6 supplements. However, it can occur on the rare occasion. One might see this if they've had any form of bariatric surgery, or if they have problems with their small intestines, which is where Vitamin B6 gets metabolised. Now, If B6 is accumulating and neither of these issues exists, other sources of B6 could be coming from frequently consuming energy drinks, which are high in the synthetic version of B6 Pyridoxine HCL. It can also occur if your eating a diet with a lot of fortified foods, like cereals. For example, 1 cup of fortified cereal can contain up to 2.5 mg of pyridoxine, according to the Linus Pauling Institute. Now the good news is that B6 is water soluble so here's how you can decrease these levels. 1. Look at all food and beverages and see if they are fortified with B6. If so, stop consuming them for 1 month. Don't avoid or limit whole foods that contain B6, like salmon, turkey, etc. because it's extremely difficult to reach toxic levels with whole food sources. 2. Make sure you're consuming 2 liters to 2.5 liters of filtered water or spring water daily...NEVER TAP WATER. This will help flush excess vitamin B6 from the body. 3. Retest in 30 days to see where your levels land.

      Could you please tell me if this 2 things I found on the internet are correct ?
      1 when absorbtion of b6 is disturbed, bloodlevels will be high but in the cells there is a shortage of B6. In this case one should take P5P supplements instead of avoiding B6.
      2 when B6 bloodlevels are high without taking any supplements, there could be a B12 deficiency.

    Dear Dr. John and Dr. Valerie.
    I hope you are well and thank you for all the helpful information you kindly provide I have subscribed to your channel.
    May I ask you a question.
    I have been taking 50mg of B6 (Pyridoxine HCI) daily (total) for 20+ years as part of my daily multi vit/min supplement. I have never had any problems but have noticed the last year I have started to experience peripheral neuropathy symptoms of burning, tingling, throbbing, pins and needles in my feet and lower legs. But not bad but definitely not normal.
    I understand from your video that B6 in the P5P form (Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate) is non toxic so can I just swap the 50mg B6 I take to P5P? Or more? So keep taking B6?
    Or should I completely remove all B6 from my supplements for a good 3-6 months to see if I improve? Then introduce P5P slowly to see how I am and if symptoms return?
    What do you recommend? Is a B6 blood test the first step to see if I am B6 toxic?
    Thanks so much for your help with my question I really do appreciate it.
    Bob

      Hi Bob. Thanks for subscribing. The first thing you should do is stop taking that daily multi containing Pyridoxine HCL. Give it a week then get a B6 blood test done to see where your B6 levels are at. If your B6 levels are not abnormally elevated then you will need to get on a good nerve support formula like Nuphoria cm Gold, that contains P5P and not Pyridoxine HCL.

      Hi Andrew. Ugh! You suffered a pyridoxine toxicity. This is a toxicity that results from using too much B6 in the form of pyridoxine HCl and it's not your fault. Doctors rarely talk about the different forms of B6. Ok- here's what you need to do. Obviously, stop taking any B6 supplement. I would then begin taking activated charcoal to help remove any excess B6 in your bloodstream. Make sure the charcoal is 'activated'. This is a brand that I use for my patients: amzn.to/3CmQjF0 Secondly, you need to take NAC (N-acetyl cysteine). This upregulates glutathione production in the body and will help flush out accumulated pyridoxine from your tissues like liver, muscles, red blood cells, and plasma. Typically because B6 is a water-soluble vitamin it flushes out of the body in about 30 days, except when the toxicity limit of pyridoxine has been exceeded. This will help you tremendously.
