Vampire Weekend are one those great indie-alternative bands that rarely get the attention they deserve and they have a unique sound that is pretty much instantly recognisable. This is one of those songs and “tout de suite” a song that if you are a grown up, one you will love. Being a grown up, I love this song with just a single listen with the organic sound of real instruments we lack so much in modern mainstream charts and in some respects a feeling given by Paul Simon in the 70s.

The structure & wordplay of Ezra's lyrics gets more sophisticated on every VW album, but he never sacrifices clarity of feeling for cleverness. He was an English Lit major & so was I and I really appreciate the way he uses language, it's certainly not a requirement to make decent pop music but it adds so much

Has anyone seen how they’re playing these live? I just watched ‘2021’ and ‘big blue’ live in London and they turn a 1:30 opening album song like 2021 into an absolute divine 8 minute jam out session. And same with big blue for like 6 minutes. Also, they have reworked a few older songs like giving up the gun and some added guitar on kids don’t stand. I think they’re taking full advantage of the mesmerizing Brian Robert Jones’ guitar playing and just jamming out like proper jam bands haha. I have a feeling these songs will sound nothing like the recorded versions by the time this tour is over. So excited to see them live in Philly in Sept. I grew up in New York and was living in the city still when they first hit the scene. I can still remember hearing Oxford Comma for the first time ever when my girlfriend at the time said I gotta check these guys out. It was such a fresh and clean new sound that I needed in my life at that point and I was happy to have them as my little secret for about a month before the blogs got ahold of them and the secret was no more.
