My dream setup is a heck of a lot simpler. I like working ITB just because I like to get thoughts down very quickly. I'm almost there on mine. Apollo X8, Apollo twin, A7x monitors, iLoud MTM monitors, JBL sub, Korg Kronos 2 88, KK S61, Maschine MK3, Sphere L22 Mics, 500 sq ft control room with 4k projector & roll down acoustic curtains, acoustic panels, custom built wet bar, vocal booth / amp closet, Fender Strat, Fender Jazz Bass. Just want to add X8P, drums, drum mics, 3 more iLoud MTM for 5.1 surround sound work, & have room soundproof renovations done.

  • @IAM_Reedy
    @IAM_Reedy 3 года назад +3

Amazing to see what people acquire and why.
I converted my workflow from outboard to 95% in the box and I couldn’t be happier. Gone are the days of maintaining loads of really heavy temperamental gear.
For those that disagree and want the racks of vintage gear and vintage hardware... that’s cool, I get it. I was that guy for decades.
Honestly the library’s available today are insane and they are increasing daily. I can pretty much find a sample or a model for just about everything, if you really want to invest do so in your room treatment, mics, amps and instruments. Everything else... digital.
I love his workflow and his design choices however I would change out a majority of the rack just based on what tools I use and what I’m comfortable with.
For those saying lots of money invested... he made smart choices and went heavy where he had too and light where he could.
It’s his business, not a home studio for tinkering.
Movie scores are good paying gigs but it takes a lot of professional connections and a ton of audio options to stay competitive, creative and flexible.
I’m sure he has had to pivot fast with a finicky client who didn’t like the wireframe he laid down. His workflow and gear allows him to accommodate clients fast.
I lost a client because it took me too long to setup a killer idea with complicated signal paths. 😂 After 20 minutes of me patching and dialing the client looked at their phone and said goodbye. That was a long time ago and I have since learned not to go full geek mode with a client looking over your shoulder. Have 5 goto setups that you know backwards and forward in that genre and be ready to abandon and move on.
Nothing worse the trying to fix the wrong idea.
Very cool studio and a great video.
    Thanks

The more years i do this, the more I find recording is a form of journaling. The studio for me is not a static place, and memories seem to have a stronger imprint in various places. I think Mark Howard got it right, by setting up in many different places. Jordan has an incredible place, a work of art and money well spent. Thank you for this Andrew. It is great to see someone build things from the ground up. Personally I might struggle with harvesting grit, or random ideas in an environment like that, but completely respect his decisions as they are indeed working for him. He seems very happy and balanced which to me is the most important thing.

Because it makes it feel more like YOUR eyes are OUR eyes... and forces the studio owner to look into the camera a lot more, which makes it feel like he's talking directly to us as well as talking to you. It just feel more like MTV Cribs when you're behind the camera. It also gives a more exclusive feeling when the only time we see you is when YOU are talking directly to us at the beginning of the video. Either way... love the channel. Take care.

Jordan, when he is explaining the modes of the brain (technical and creative) is drawing the difference between the left brain (analytical) and right brain (creative, imagery, expansiveness). Cool to see someone that understands how that works and applies it in his process.

in my house there is little space, except in the bedroom which was 5.50 meters by 4 meters.
so I decided to make an extra space in my bedroom for a home studio.
I use the home studio for voice-over and making radio jingles.
I started to soundproof the walls first and then extra walls of 15 cm thick and I also made these soundproof. The ceilings are two ceilings above each other and also with sound insulation, the walls and the ceiling and the door are a total of 30 cm thick.
now I have a home studio of two by four meters with of course a silent ventilation system.
and there is still enough space in my bedroom to place a double king size bed.
I am happy with my home studio and this was the only solution, it took me three months to get everything ready on my own.

    52:15 it's called a Hackbrett
It was a big part auf Austrian Folkmusic but nowadays there aren't that many people around playing them. Beside that, getting strings for them is a PIA because there are barely any manufacturers left. Here in my country you can find them pretty cheap bet getting new strings on is the expensive part. I do have to do that work occasionally in the reapir shop where I work.
Really like the fact that the Hackbretter seem to pop up more often in studios now.
Check out the band PERCHTA if you want to hear some traditional stuff (instruments and sagas ) mixed with ( don't tell me I haven't warned you! ) black metal.

I have fallen love with the studio and I like the score music he makes and what's important is that he has a decent set of monitors most people have master in gear dynamic processes etc that cost thousands yet their monitoring systems only cost $500 which is ridiculous but this guy has it properly prioritised.

The studio is certainly more exciting than what comes out of the speakers.

What broke me wassn't the INCREDDIBLE design, gear, thought out rooms, (micstands almost broke me) but it was the freaking shower with touchpanel for steam and bluetooth speakers, wtf! xD. I want an interview with how he makes his money and the journey!

Hi! I've worked in professional music for over 20 years and was living paycheck to paycheck just 5 years ago. Worked really hard at the music I loved and was inspired by and it ended up doing really well in the TV/Film world. What you see is years and years of hard work and building a business. I had a 400sq ft studio room before this one and a closet before that and loved it too. You don't need a studio like this to make great music but it's definitely a lot of fun!

@@jordancritzmusic In these times its great to see someone actually making it work in the music business. :)
Anything you think you do differently from many people maybe stuck in an older model of music business?

@@jordancritzmusic Awesome space & inspirational story. I've been in & out of the business for about 15 years and have never been able to catch a real brea. My studio started in a 150 sq ft sunroom in my first house, then to a downtown shared 1000 sq ft space, back to a home studio in my 1200 sq ft basement that feels big to me. I couldn't imagine a space that massive, but maybe one day, I'll catch my break and my imagination will grow.
