    Our hands created the perfect cupped pop when you came into the house. I had forgotten that. It’s the sign of a lifelong friendship when that happens. Going to add reverb to that sound right now.

    Inspiring stuff, I’m 43, and just about to build my first home mini studio, since my oldest son has moved out, the younger kids are moving rooms, finally leaving a tiny room free for me. There is very limited space and i have loads of gear stacked up in boxes waiting to move it all in and set it up (waiting for it to be painted and new carpets go down). Watching this video makes me extremely jealous of the space, the gear, the quality , the amount of synths, the vintage synths….urrrgh…..but at the same time I’m thankful that I’m going to be able to enjoy even just a small fraction of that in my own space now.
    I will be moving to a much bigger house in the next couple of years, and will finally have a dedicated space for my music, so will definitely come back to watch this video in the future for inspiration.
    Oh and that COFFEE MACHINE!….. I can smell it from here!.

  • @BlackMan614

    I love how he keeps his synths on racks, then moves them over to his main desk to play. That makes so much sense. 1) You are always facing the speakers when playing. 2) In front of the computer/keyboard to easily punch in/out. 3) being able to sit and concentrate. I'm thinking of mimicking this. Just brilliant idea.

      I do this with 100w guitar amp heads and a Torpedo Studio. With something tactile you need it right in front of you. The downside is that some of these things are bloody heavy.

    Tony is one of the most fun people to hang out with and I think i’m going to have to get at least 2 synths now.

    • @liambate2301
      @liambate2301 2 года назад +1

      You should buy a nice analog synth like the prophet 10 or oberheim obx8 as their strong character really brings out ideas. I wouldn't recommend digital modelling synths as they sound fake and have no character. The analog ones are quite expensive but based on the rest of your studio it looks like you can afford it ;)

    • @MrLanka-ud8wl
      @MrLanka-ud8wl 2 года назад +1

      Synths are a big rabbit hole, but I suggest getting one monosynth and one polysynth. I use a Moog Sub25 for bass and a Prophet Rev2 for chords and pads. The Novation Peak is also a good buy if you want a different, more modern character as it's a hybrid with digital oscillators and an analog filter. It's not for everyone, some people hate it, but I think it sounds very cool and different.

    • @Terrible_Peril
      @Terrible_Peril 2 года назад

      a couple of solid physical synths are worth their weight in gold, but I'll be honest- I use the software synths on my iPad INFINITELY more than any of the actual units I've got at my disposal.

    Best video I've seen on your channel bro. We're all nerds. We're all weird people that gets excited about hanging cables on a wall and other weird things like that. And I love that. But this guy is able to be that and at the same time "I'm not gonna wait until I'm 80 to start enjoying the quality of life" 41:35 .. sorry but that is just so right that I felt it had to be pointed out. Focus, passion, practice, gear etc is all great, but damn right let's enjoy life. Now, if this is not inspiring I don't know what should be.

    Amazing studio tour, one of the best yet! Tony interjects the perfect amount of humor and self deprecating humor to keep things light, but make no mistake about it, this is a highly specialized setup by someone very intent on becoming a master of their craft and honing their skillset in a way that is reflected by the way the studio is setup and gear choices, and there is some absolutely killer gear in that studio, the piano corner sounds so warm and vibey, just beautiful!

    Dude. Thank you for this. I have a similar ritual to Tony, whenever you put out a new video I'll watch it pretty early in the day as I'm starting out with my (work from home) day job and it's so inspiring to hear about other people's paths in music, their workflow and personalities. With Tony especially, his approach to making music, relating with people and remembering why they listen to his music or watch his videos in the first place is incredibly grounding. It's things like this that help me remember why I ever started making music in the first place. Thanks so much for this, you guys.

    Came for the studio tour, stayed for the coffee nerding!
    One thing worth mentioning because I hear people say it now and again. When Tony says ‘Coles 4038s are noisy’ - they are passive, so they don’t make any noise at all. They’re low output/sensitivity so if you’re cranking your mic pre gain you’ll notice any noise present in the preamps. The active part of the AEA44s is increasing the level so the preamps can stay out of the noisy range. You could use a cloudlifter/fethead etc to get a similar result. The AEA44s are insane mics though and plenty of reason to use those regardless.

    • @TonyAndersonMusic
      @TonyAndersonMusic 2 года назад +3

      Totally spot on. The difference is the Cole’s recordings were still very noisy even with cloud lifters or soyuz launchers. Different preamps over the years with the same noisy results. RIP 4038s. They had to go! Especially for my style of music where the instruments are exposed at all times.

    Andrew. THIS. is the best video you’ve done, hands down. Maybe because watching and listening to Tony is like confirmation that he really is my long lost brother from another mother - holy smokes, there’s more than one of us!!! 😂 I mean, his whole left brain-right brain civil war is SO familiar, among other things… insane.
    Seriously, the density of great ideas and fun factor in this one is off the charts. Funny enough, I’ve been considering unplugging all 20 of my hardware synths and doing Tony’s approach of just putting them all on shelves and pulling only one at a time. I’m hesitant to do it, but seeing someone else take that approach makes me want to try it. SO good. Hats off to you both!

      @@JimDaneker Dude, I hope you get yours soon. I wavered on ordering mine direct through sequential or through a retailer and that cost me a week or so of time...who knows how many orders are in front of mine now! - I do know internally they are slammed with orders and my hope is I got in on the first wave of shipments before they have to create / order more parts. They didn't say this directly, but I think the demand in preorders surprised them. Online so many are criticizing the synth (which is why I loved your recent video), but sales speak for themselves. I think $5k for that much synth is a value. I cannot wait to hear what you write with it. Please do an overview film.

    I concur that the Microcosm is a very very special pedal. I have owned one since January -still learning and experimenting,. Never gets old. Feeds any CBA pedal into the or out of them and prepare to have your mind blown.

    Cool dude, cool studio. I liked that he was funny and relaxed before going into to studio and then suddenly turned into working mode/ pro.
