    Our hands created the perfect cupped pop when you came into the house. I had forgotten that. It’s the sign of a lifelong friendship when that happens. Going to add reverb to that sound right now.

    Inspiring stuff, I’m 43, and just about to build my first home mini studio, since my oldest son has moved out, the younger kids are moving rooms, finally leaving a tiny room free for me. There is very limited space and i have loads of gear stacked up in boxes waiting to move it all in and set it up (waiting for it to be painted and new carpets go down). Watching this video makes me extremely jealous of the space, the gear, the quality , the amount of synths, the vintage synths….urrrgh…..but at the same time I’m thankful that I’m going to be able to enjoy even just a small fraction of that in my own space now.
    I will be moving to a much bigger house in the next couple of years, and will finally have a dedicated space for my music, so will definitely come back to watch this video in the future for inspiration.
    Oh and that COFFEE MACHINE!….. I can smell it from here!.

    This is my favorite tour you've ever done on the channel. I would totally hang out with this guy. His point about you inspiring musicians is spot on. I built my home studio after being sick and watching your channel. I keep coming back for more inspiration. Great stuff Andrew.

  • @AndrewMasters
    @AndrewMasters  2 года назад +47

    Tony is one of the most fun people to hang out with and I think i’m going to have to get at least 2 synths now.

    • @liambate2301
      @liambate2301 2 года назад +1

      You should buy a nice analog synth like the prophet 10 or oberheim obx8 as their strong character really brings out ideas. I wouldn't recommend digital modelling synths as they sound fake and have no character. The analog ones are quite expensive but based on the rest of your studio it looks like you can afford it ;)

    • @MrLanka-ud8wl
      @MrLanka-ud8wl 2 года назад +1

      Synths are a big rabbit hole, but I suggest getting one monosynth and one polysynth. I use a Moog Sub25 for bass and a Prophet Rev2 for chords and pads. The Novation Peak is also a good buy if you want a different, more modern character as it's a hybrid with digital oscillators and an analog filter. It's not for everyone, some people hate it, but I think it sounds very cool and different.

    • @Terrible_Peril
      @Terrible_Peril 2 года назад

      a couple of solid physical synths are worth their weight in gold, but I'll be honest- I use the software synths on my iPad INFINITELY more than any of the actual units I've got at my disposal.

    $35k on studio monitors, $16k on a pair of condenser microphones, etc tells me this a home studio that is only a home studio because it happens to be located in a house; The gear is beyond most home studios. Nice setup though!

    I love how he keeps his synths on racks, then moves them over to his main desk to play. That makes so much sense. 1) You are always facing the speakers when playing. 2) In front of the computer/keyboard to easily punch in/out. 3) being able to sit and concentrate. I'm thinking of mimicking this. Just brilliant idea.

    • @TonyAndersonMusic

    Amazing studio tour, one of the best yet! Tony interjects the perfect amount of humor and self deprecating humor to keep things light, but make no mistake about it, this is a highly specialized setup by someone very intent on becoming a master of their craft and honing their skillset in a way that is reflected by the way the studio is setup and gear choices, and there is some absolutely killer gear in that studio, the piano corner sounds so warm and vibey, just beautiful!

    Came for the studio tour, stayed for the coffee nerding!
    One thing worth mentioning because I hear people say it now and again. When Tony says ‘Coles 4038s are noisy’ - they are passive, so they don’t make any noise at all. They’re low output/sensitivity so if you’re cranking your mic pre gain you’ll notice any noise present in the preamps. The active part of the AEA44s is increasing the level so the preamps can stay out of the noisy range. You could use a cloudlifter/fethead etc to get a similar result. The AEA44s are insane mics though and plenty of reason to use those regardless.

    • @TonyAndersonMusic
      @TonyAndersonMusic 2 года назад +3

      Totally spot on. The difference is the Cole’s recordings were still very noisy even with cloud lifters or soyuz launchers. Different preamps over the years with the same noisy results. RIP 4038s. They had to go! Especially for my style of music where the instruments are exposed at all times.

    Inspiring Room. Reminds me of Christian Henson's shed...the permanent fixed space pair on the piano is a must for quick and seamless composition. Its like shoes...if they're difficult and annoying to get on your feet every morning, you will never wear them. Find the path of least resistance and allow your ideas to flow.

    Dude. Thank you for this. I have a similar ritual to Tony, whenever you put out a new video I'll watch it pretty early in the day as I'm starting out with my (work from home) day job and it's so inspiring to hear about other people's paths in music, their workflow and personalities. With Tony especially, his approach to making music, relating with people and remembering why they listen to his music or watch his videos in the first place is incredibly grounding. It's things like this that help me remember why I ever started making music in the first place. Thanks so much for this, you guys.

    Love the vids. I feel like synths are a great way to go down a rabbit hole only to end up back where you started, haha. I have made things that take 15hrs+ to make and then just deleted it after realizing I at best had a good few chords and I need to turn the high hat off. But then again, I am not getting paid to do it, or I'd be staring at all those MIDIs.
    Cheers, guys!

    Great tour and artist. Your channel has become one of my favorite studio tour channels along with greats like Warren Huart's Produce Like a Pro. Added Tony's channel to my subscription list and am listening to his music since I did not know of him until this video, and I like piano and synths along with his beautiful studio. Now I just need to smell some Jasmine blossoms in the spring!

    This was fantastic. I really appreciated the story behind selecting each piece of gear. Anyone can go buy a bunch of stuff and wire it up, but to hear how Tony literally went through hundreds of mics to find just the right set...just very impressive. LOVE the wood furniture too. Everything in the room. Thank you!
