What on earth is a Fat Truck? | Driving the unstoppable new 4x4 | Autocar

- Let's say you've got a team of people and equipment and you need to get them somewhere inhospitable to work. You can't fly, it's too far to walk, and no regular 4x4 is inclined to go there. You might just want a Fat Truck.
Fat Truck. Honestly, what a great name. The Fat Truck, made by Zeal Motor in Canada, is a go-anywhere all terrain vehicle for the most difficult of terrains, thanks to its massive balloon tyres that can be inflated and deflated on the move. It can do 25mph on land or, get this, 3mph on water, as those big tyres paddle it around.
It can also basically turn in its own length, because the wheels on each side can turn in opposite directions to give it amazing manoeuvrability. Its power comes from a modest-sounding 67bhp 2.2-litre Caterpillar diesel engine, which drives a hydrostatic transmission, so it's dead easy to drive.
How easy? And how unstoppable? Join Matt Prior as we find out.

That’s a Sherp and Rich Rebuilds should comment on this
I was gonna say something similar earlier but couldn’t be asked. Glad someone did though.
Yes! Sheep - Russian product very good selling all over the world
I understand it light look like a sherp, but its a fat truck, made by zeal motors?
@@subaruwrxsti300 this is not just a copy, but the theft of ideas in a brazen
You guys are fucking wrong i repair sherp and fat truck and its not the same machine sherp is always broken
Just a direct copy of the SHERP whose world headquaters are also in Canada Weird
I bet sherp sold ther company and the owner, creator started another company building the same thing called a fat truck 🚚 happens all the time 🤣
@@Barry.ONeill Nope! Sherps are still being manufactured and sold so I guess we'll see if there's any copyright issues soon hahaha
@@joelkupstas7907 yup still being built in Winnipeg and is just a complete rip off to the Sherp . Dam , everything is pretty much the same right down to the way the front window opens and the door to get in ,lol.
Sherp is in bed with Argo. There are a few videos out showing how in many ways the sherp is superior especially in ice for crawing out of the ice as these things suck at it. The joystick vs independant for each side like the sherp also sucks.
Cool... I want one... next Christmas! Lets be honest though, for a lot less money, and almost just as cool, a Suzuki Jimny fitted with mud terrains, a locking diff, and a snorkle would get you to the majority of places you'll ever need to go. I propose a head to head!
Good luck getting a Jimny to swim.
Yes jimmy can not swim and even go over the boulders this thing can. apples and orabges. Have fun with your jimmy
So.....it's a Sherp
Yeaahh Quebec power !! Cheers from Mtl !!🤘🤘
Its a Sherp!! No Fat Truck!
Sherp is far behind
Fat car ? It's calleda Sherp been all over the Internet for years 🤣🤙👌
I was stranded in the snow with my truck and one just happened to pass by. Wasn't too long and I was free. 👌
First thing that came to my mind when I read the title was Fat Fu_! Thing looks cool.
Can we see it climb super steep hills please or will it just tumble backwards?
I enjoyed watching the Video
Agreed, it is a Sherp. The old one anyway. Sherp likely licensed or sold the design to these guys while they concentrate on building the new one.
You are correct
Folks it’s like saying a Rincon is copying a KingQuad. The Taiga and the Canadian Shield place similar unique demands on a vehicle. A buoyant skid-steer that can climb ice edges is pretty awesome as the thick bush precludes penetration and suggests a rivers as roads solution
Its just a licensed version of the Sherpa basically I believe
Hmmm, the "unstoppable 4x4* and they give you a lightly rutted field and a 3 inch deep stream to show it's amazing capabilities , they've CERTAINLY got 100% faith in their product 🤪🤪🤪
It would be nice if they would show ruffer terrain other than what I put my 2008 Pontiac G6 through in the last month and it has 200,000 miles on it.
Very cool
When the West copies the East, the East is doing something properly good 😂
The West always copies the East, just then the West lies in its propaganda that everything was the other way around.
@@pifpaf2725 Nah.
I know a couple of places here in South Australia that would be able to get this bogged.
Came too late to go onto my letter to Santa. Next year.
The question is should I avoid, shortlist, consider, or buy this?
Whoops, wrong channel... :P
Basically a Bobcat without the shovel and big wheels
No it has big wheels have you not been paying attention
i wish cars had controls like this ...
Me too!
I think the Sherp is better, with the more mechanical approach.
The electronic systems on this is are a point of failure.
The Sherp would outlast this I think.
Where is your proof that the electronic systems on the Fat Truck are a point of failure and that the Sherp would outlast the Fat Truck? Yep, you have none, so your comment is strictly an opinion and should be taken as such. And just to add, clutches and brakes, which the Sherp uses, wear out over time and have to be replaced, whereas the hydraulic drive the Fat Truck uses does not wear out and will be more durable than the Sherp over time.
@@JasonMartinHelloradoMusic Overheating of what? The engine coolant? The hydraulic oil? Can you be more specific?
I have owned both. The Sherp came with 4 options, and the fat truck came with about 25 or more. The Sherp is pretty much a skid steer. You have a clutch and you have to shift. not the fat truck
I wish the technology advances enough to reduce the noise by 50%
Sherp copy with a bit more sophistication, then.
I want one
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sherp is that you?
6x6 pls
Sherp?
Fat Truck Designer - Let's go driving in our new and unstoppable 4x4. Where should we go to really test this beast out?
Fat Truck Test Driver - London.
Fat Truck Designer - ..............!!??
Oh look. A sherp.
Looks more like a granny tank
Capy cat SHERP
Way too many electronics which create a huge number of problems as the equipment ages (broken wires and Corroded connection). When one is 500 miles from service and come to a halt by a $60 part this not what I want to put my faith in. It makes it very easy to train an operator but that same operator is not going to be happy walking home.
Sherp copy right there
Why so ridiculously noisy?
SHERP seems stronger
Québec mais copie du sherp
Looks perfect for next mars rover ...
What a toy to have
This is a copy of The Sherp
It's a rip-off of the Russian/Ukrainian Sherp.....
Sherp Armenian car
