Best video on this topic I've seen! I live in Yucatan, Mexico. To get a drivers license here, there is a pretty easy written test, but then the only driving test is parallel parking! They measure your car and then place 4-foot-high plastic cones 1 meter farther apart than your car length. (Since there are no other cars, you can't use the mirror-matching trick to get your rear bumpers aligned.) You are limited to 5 back-and-forth moves; you can't touch the front/back barriers, you can't hit the curb, and you can't turn around (must use mirrors only). Any other aids (like a back up camera) have to be covered. You get three tries; if you fail you can come back the next day (and the next, and the next...). It's pretty insane, but people do manage to pass it!

I tell my students to find a car identical to theirs, pull up next to it so they're aligned, and look over their left shoulder (I live in the UK) and make a note of where the back of the vehicle is, that way, whether they're parking behind a stretch limo, a van or an original Mini or Smart car, they know that they're back is aligned with the car next to them. The trouble is, people tend to forget this. One girl, who only had a few lessons, said that she tried to do a parallel park shortly after passing, and totally messed it up. That was years ago, I've seen her car parked up on many occasions, and she certainly seemed to have got it figured out.
@Ginger You appear to have misunderstood my comment. The idea is that you know when the back of your car is level with the back of the vehicle you are parking behind, regardless of its length.
Tried tour recommendation of turning wheel 1.25 turns and it worked... Super excited about driving after having license for more than 8 years and not having the confidence to practice.
Lol same but yet I have yet to practice it at all so far but I have this spot I always go to that requires this technique, either I have to wait for it to be 2 spots open or park elsewhere, now I got to try this way

I’ve parked in the smallest measurement in various occasions on a high street that is a main road. Imagine trying to do the manoeuvre whilst you’re holding up cars on a busy high street main road. It’s tricky but I’ve done it. 😊
Something important: check if the other cars have enough space to get out after you leave only 30cm between you and them. Sometimes it is better to park crooked but leave more space.
I really appreciated that you said it's hard to do it even for experianced drivers! I'm still young driver and I wanted to parking like that so many times but it's not easy at all.. I hope some day I can do this
It's easy for experienced drivers but only those who do it very often. For people who don't park in tight spots regularly, usually it's not easy. Even when the spots are not tight it's not easy for some drivers who rarely park in parallel (people who live in the country who have driveways and rarely drive in urban environments for example)
That's good advice. I do recommend that in some of my other videos. However it might not be accepted at the exam where you're doing it. So check first.
Mr Conduite Facile do you have tips for Parallel Parking but the Parking Spot is on the left side? I know that your teachings are applicable in the left spot but one adjustment is that one should do everything in the opposite direction but my problem now is that the perspective is different since the cars that's on the front and back seem much closer since they're right beside the driver's seat and not based on the perspective on the front passenger seat window.

Very helpful video . What is the reference point of the license plate if I want to park in the opposite side of the road and I have the car next to me ?
What's funny is since i had a car with camera, i suck at parallel parking now. Before i could parallel park a 1999 van any-fucking-where. Now i have to look up tutorials again like a 18 years old about to get the exam hahaha.
I believe reverse cameras have allowed people to park closer than they may have done . If you still have an older car you may notice other drivers boxing you in (frustrating)
Thank you very much for your videos! Just one question, why would you turn your wheel for 1 & 1/4 only? In the rest of the videos I saw the first step would be to turn your wheel completely to the side where you want to park. Thanks :)
Putting a manual car in gear when you park is a good safety precaution in case the hand brake fails; it’s the same idea when an automatic goes into park. Another thing you can do for extra safety is to turn the wheel all the way to the left away from the curb, or to the right towards the curb if you’re parking downhill, so that if the car does roll, gravity will pull it towards the curb.
I only put in gear, when I am not sure the road is flat; otherwise I always put in neutral. There is a downside when putting in gear as I have experienced several times : when starting, I forgot to put into neutral. :)
@@abhiekulkarni I want my feet to be free of burden when starting. :) Actually when I see the diagram of my car from service manual, there is a part named clutch interlock that should prevent the car from starting if the clutch is not pressed. User manual also tells the same thing, even in neutral, press the clutch. Maybe that part/component doesn't function anymore, so I don't need to press the clutch when in neutral.
My father is having a hard time driving our new car but he is catching up and we already can drive out doors and that is the thing that is making me believe in him 😘 love you papa
Seems like theres all eyes on me when I attempt to park in a tight space so...I simply dont. The parking spot could be right in front of my home and I will park a block away just to avoid the stress. This is so frustrating lol.
I learned on a lorry (Iveco) and not a car. So I never had to learn how to parallel park. Yet I can parallel park with ease with both a lorry and a car.
I use side mirrors but I can't see the beginning and back of a car so you need someone to help or just open the door and look at what you're doing, much easier esp when you drive someone else's car.
Go to the car and ask if he is leaving. If he luckily says in few minutes you make a straight to back car and turn on emergency light for traffic follow from left. When that car leaves then you straight up with car which is at front. Forget about the 90 degree because you have no idea what that is so you do sterring wheel all to the right and reverse. When you touch to the curve you will have just enough space at front. Then forward it. Now you back wheel will straighten. Then straight the sterring and do reverse just a bit. Then your car will be inside and you have space as much as you want. I mean enough to do forward and back. Note: The guy in the video may have point but if you do not do full right when you reverse enter i am confident that you will leave big space in your curve. That’s dangerous to do in city like NY. Since the traffic is heavy and sometimes big trucks need more space. You try to push your car to curve as much as you can!!! Good luck!
At last...after waiting patiently :) Thank you. Initial steps are very important so that we won't need many maneuvers to execute. Btw at 1:58, why do you put to 1st gear, instead of neutral, after parking ? Is it because the road is not flat ?
You’re using two reference points to determine when to turn the steering wheel completely in the opposite direction during the back up process: head light of rear reference car appears on driver side mirror and middle of the license plate at right edge of passenger side window. Does those reference points still hold true if your car is larger or smaller than the reference car in front of the parking space?
They can vary slightly, unless both vehicles are of very different sizes. I have this video on that, plus I'll make another one soon: ruclips.net/video/Mpo6fcaWfC4/видео.html
Recently I tried and I was stressed, I was doing well but I thought it wouldn't work so I gave up and all I had to do was try forwards and backwards a few times.
You could do it in French style. By pushing the other cars. That´s how it´s done in Paris. Which is also the reason why every car is scratched up, even if it´s a new car.
It should be the same technique as this one. If the space between the cars on both sides is so tight that you can't park, then you won't be able to park at all. But usually streets are designed to be wide enough so that there's enough room for the cars parked on both sides, and a car in the center + the space to do the parking maneuver. Else, parking will usually be forbidden on one side.
At 1:29 I usually pull out of the parking spot I didn’t know what we can just turn it to right and go all the way up and then turn the wheel all the way to the left in reverse and you won’t be far from curb?
I have a question about the parallel parking first step when you align your car next to other. Can you use other car's red light also as a reference? In this case should it be visible just at the end of your right side passenger window or middle of the window? Thanks!
I know it’s been a year, hopefully you got the answer to this question already. But if you didn’t, the way I learned, I align the red light of the other car to the end of my back seat window, in such a way that I can see it completely. But of course, it depends on the length of the car.
In my opinion, your proposed "alternating" step is wrong. If you drive forward, you should have your wheels in forward position so that you only drive straight forward. If you reverse, turn your steering wheel completely to the left before doing so. Using this routine, it is much more easy to get as close as possible to the right hand side pavement. I often find that a lot of people are able to park in but the distance to the right hand side pavement is somewhat random at times. I think that this is mostly due to your wrong proposal imo.
I love how this guy is always straight to the point.
Fik Shun if you have backup camera and blind spot mirrors will this process be easier ?
Fik Shun do you believe in “better safe then sorry” ?
But if you rely on a backup camera, if that camera fails or you try to park with a car that does not have a backup camera. Things will become harder for you. It's a nice feature but it's not good to rely on. It's good to learn without the camera before you use it.

@@lexsoft3969 to solve this problem, you should always start your car with your foot on the clutch!
@@abhiekulkarni I want my feet to be free of burden when starting. :)
Actually when I see the diagram of my car from service manual, there is a part named clutch interlock that should prevent the car from starting if the clutch is not pressed. User manual also tells the same thing, even in neutral, press the clutch. Maybe that part/component doesn't function anymore, so I don't need to press the clutch when in neutral.
I love this channel and helping how to drive, thank you
My father is having a hard time driving our new car but he is catching up and we already can drive out doors and that is the thing that is making me believe in him 😘 love you papa
Why am I here
Seems like theres all eyes on me when I attempt to park in a tight space so...I simply dont. The parking spot could be right in front of my home and I will park a block away just to avoid the stress. This is so frustrating lol.
Awesome tips! Easy to remember information. Excellent demonstrations. You are the best driving instructor. Terrific channel!
Thank you very much kind sir, I really appreciate the knowledge!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Your accent is very fascinating and easy to understand, I think English is not your native language, thanks a lot
I learned on a lorry (Iveco) and not a car. So I never had to learn how to parallel park. Yet I can parallel park with ease with both a lorry and a car.
Can't wait for part 2
Can you please also show how to forward out of a parking spot when there is a car on one side and a parking wall on the other side?
You are the best. I learn alot from you.
Exactly how I do it. Great job demonstrating!
Im beginner in driving i just only need to know is parking its difficult for me but i want to learn ur video is helpful thank you.
I use side mirrors but I can't see the beginning and back of a car so you need someone to help or just open the door and look at what you're doing, much easier esp when you drive someone else's car.
I would avoid tight spot as a beginner but this is still very helpful
Good luck!
Thank you so much I got it the first time. 🎉🎉🎉🎉New subscriber
Best video. Precise explanation. Thank you
I love the reference point trick
beautiful explanation and demo, cheers!
At last...after waiting patiently :)
Thank you. Initial steps are very important so that we won't need many maneuvers to execute.
Btw at 1:58, why do you put to 1st gear, instead of neutral, after parking ? Is it because the road is not flat ?
Just an extra braking support. The road is flat by the way.
@@ConduiteFacile So it's an anticipation in case it gets collided from behind or front due to tight distance after parking ? It makes sense.
That's exactly it.
Wear that clutch. Just safe ur clutch and put it in neutral. The clutch is not a brake. Even on a hill just put it in neutral
Terrible video, good accent 👌
Well explained!! Great video ☺️
Today's best video.. Thank you 👍🏻
You’re using two reference points to determine when to turn the steering wheel completely in the opposite direction during the back up process: head light of rear reference car appears on driver side mirror and middle of the license plate at right edge of passenger side window.
How are you going to get out of that tight spot later
Watch the video in reverse

You could do it in French style. By pushing the other cars. That´s how it´s done in Paris. Which is also the reason why every car is scratched up, even if it´s a new car.
it's not worth it to park in such tight spaces, it's a pain to get in, and a pain to get off.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Great video filled with helpful tips! Thank you.
Thanks for thia video, it's really helpful. Could you please do a video of PARALLEL PARK IN A TIGHT STREET CAAR AT BOTH SIDE,?
It should be the same technique as this one. If the space between the cars on both sides is so tight that you can't park, then you won't be able to park at all. But usually streets are designed to be wide enough so that there's enough room for the cars parked on both sides, and a car in the center + the space to do the parking maneuver. Else, parking will usually be forbidden on one side.
I don't think I could ever parallel park anywhere, considering I drive a highly lifted 2007 Ford F-350 Super Duty crew cab 4x4 with a long bed.
I face so many tight spot scenarios in INDIA, Thanks for helping me out !

What's worse is how pressured you feel if someone's behind you, you suddenly can't park anymore (at least happens to me)
Great! Learning with 1/12 carspaces is easy, this is hard
Isn't that what I'm saying in the video?
