I have a 2001 single kendon Stand-up that has probably 30,000 miles on it from Florida to Wisconsin and out to Stirgis every year. Follows beautifully. Only replaced the tires and wheel bearings 3 years ago. Still looks like new because I believe in continued maintenance
That is great feedback! I am glad yours is holding up well.
As an owner of single, double, and triple Kendon's, I have some tips and suggestions. First off, buy used =) I picked my three rail for $600, the single for $1K and my double for $1200. You need to be cautious of course, but around SoCal, you can find good used ones well bellow $2500. On all three, the first thing I did was put in new bearings , seals, and grease. And make sure you check the tire build dates (see further down). I modified my dual considerably as the stand-up height was too high to fit my storage space. I had a trailer shop modify the tongue to shorten it and I use a removable coupler (just a receiver with a coupler welded to a shank, held in place with a pin). The whole front of the trailer is much stronger now too. Regards the lights...I learned with my triple (three dirt bikes or one track bike), that the taillights are vulnerable when just trying to move the thing around on the casters. I use magnetics, assisted with cable ties. To protect the casters, I use bungee cords to hold the up out of the way when trailer is in use (and to keep the center caster from getting stuck on the frame rails). For rear tie-down points I use heavy duty loop straps around the frame members at the fold joint. My dual is an older model non-ride on version, but I have ordered the newer dual ramp and have a heavy duty chock to mount in the center, so that I can at least use it solo. Regards tires...I totally forgot about the tires that came with my dual as they looked good and had plenty of tread. Towing along at 65, with two 500lb bikes on it, one of the tires developed a bulge. No problem...pulled over and had the spare on in less than ten minutes. Next day, same speed, the OTHER tire comes completely apart. Trailer held steady long enough for me to get over into the emergency lane and no part of the frame made contact with the ground (though there was maybe a 1/4" between the caster bracket and the pavement. Put the "bulged" tire back on and very slowly made our way into the next town, but that is a whole different story...
After getting home, I checked the mfg date on those tires....they were 12 years old.
I’ve literally pulled hundreds of trailers for work and recreation, and this trailer has too many shortcomings for me.
I ended up getting an Aluma UT-10 trailer, with full width slide out ramp, 18” rock guard and diamond plate storage chest.
It was also super easy to install a spare tire mount on, and not have to carry all the essentials somewhere else!
I can carry 1 bike, 2 bikes, or even my Ural Gear Up hassle free.
I don’t use the Aluminum trailer in the winter here in New England (road salts eat them up).
I have a steel trailer for winter projects.
I agree with you an the shortcomings, but if you have to have a folding trailer due to space constraints I think it is a very good option
All valid points. Even if you only buy single bike model, those castors becoming worn is a big problem. These speed bumps are out of control!
Definitely
I use bungees to hold them up and out of the way.
Thanks, I'm thinking of buying one.
Sounds good! It is a nice trailer even though I think there should be a few improvements made to it.
They really need to come with low profile lights. I've wrecked several over the years - major design flaw.
I agree. The lights are nice but can get in the way
Would your RZR fit on the Kendon trailer with a few mods? I'm getting a 900XP and like the compact trailer. I would move the tail lights down and below the top of the fender
Kendon makes a stand up SXS trailer that I would suggest looking into. It appears it might be easier to convert to haul a motorcycle if you wanted that as an option also.
Paid $700 for used single 2005..gonna upgrade lights to led And Harborfeight for casters.
Sounds like you got a great deal!
Nice video, thank you for your thoughts on it, you think for the money you spend engineering would of thought about some of these issues that you talk about. I just piced up an 04 double bike kendon trailer, how level does it have to be once hooked up to your truck, i noticed when it was hooked up to my jeep it sat a little low in the front it wasn't level, maybe i need a different hitch to make it level, and that was with no bikes on it. I dont know how critical it is, a little low or high, or does it have to be dead level. Never had a trailer, always used my pickup trucks. We will be hooking it up on my brother's Tacoma also, but his looks like it might sit a little higher then your truck. Any help would be appreciated thank you
Personally, I think when the trailer is loaded it should sit a a little low in the front or at least level. When it’s not loaded it would be a little higher due to not having any weight on the trailer. If you look at the way the trailer is made there is a lot of it hanging fairly low under the trailer and it is more acceptable to getting damaged. The casters will definitely hit and get damaged as mine have. Also….hook it up and load the bikes on it and do a short trip around town to see how it is pulling, tracking and riding at different speeds and that should help you figure out how to set it up with your tow vehicle. Ride Safe!
@@tacoontwo I'm just trying to figure out if I have the right hitch for it, the one I put on my jeep looks like the one in your video. It looks like a 2" drop. With no bikes on it to me it looks like it was dipping down. So now I flipped ball around on same hitch but didn't get a chance to see how it looks. I am in the process of doing maintenance on the hubs, but I'll check it all out like you said and I'll settle on something. Thank you very much for getting back to me, Merry Christmas, have a great new year
The trailer should sit slightly high in the front when loaded.
I’m consider buying one of these. What are the castors used for? Don’t you move the trailer around with the wheels?
The casters are used to move the trailer around in the folded position. You fold the trailer up and once it is standing upright you can roll it into the storage spot. Hope that answers your question. Thanks
Be aware that the dual rail is HEAVY and it can be tricky to raise it on to the casters. And make damned sure the surface you are working is flat. The single is much easier to handle.
Ok im confused. Why have highway pegs if you trailer your touring bike on the highway. Help me out here.ty
Because my son didn’t want to ride his Dyna all the way to Sturgis so we decided to take the trailer.
Greetings. Thank you for filming this and the other videos about this trailer. Why did you buy this trailer, when it looks like you have all the space in the world to hide a conventional trailer? It's probably ideal for someone who lives in a city and can easily hide a trailer out of the way.
I am not supposed to have any trailers sitting out in my yard due to the HOA so i went this route.
That makes sense. Good luck with the trailer, I hope it holds up for many years!
HOA COMMANDOS!
Another problem is that if you get a flat and leave the spare mounted under the trailer, you have to completely unload the trailer remove the spare and then reload the trailer.
No thank you.
Your correct. I don’t put the spare there at all. I just throw it in the back of the truck to avoid that problem.
You put It There when you store trailer only not when you use it.if you chuck in in your garage an get in a hurry you might forget it.if its in your face when you pull out your trailer you wont forget it then toss it in tow vehicle along with your ramps. That's what I plan on doing with the one I just got. It has worked out nice already. When my buddies girls hd broke down an needed help. They didnt trust a tow company.
My name is kendon
