can't imagine what you guys went through over there. all I can say is thank you for your service. hope you and your lads n lassies are doing well. all the best from Scotland
A lovely hymn sung by a beautiful lady, perhaps an epitome of the greatness of two ancient monarchies: Great Britain and Denmark whose royal families saw it as their sacred duty to remain among their people against the Nazi onslaught. Few over here know that every day during the Nazi occupation, King Christian X rode on his horse to Christiansborg to raise the Dannebrog over the House of Parliament, that against strict orders from the Nazi occupier under pain of getting shot. How many remember that Field Marshall Montgomery raced to Denmark after the defeat of Germany in order to keep Denmark out of the Soviet Union? This is the spirit of patriotism so well embodied by “ I vow to thee, my country”.
The lady is Beautiful - The Hymn is Beautiful and Great Britain is Beautiful - it touches the heart of this Canadian - proud to have been born in Britain. God Save The Queen and Bless Britain!!!
Well... since you are in the "family tree" of many of us, Mate, it is Still a very strong connection. 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸 And I think we both can agree that Katherine is an amazing lady. 💖 Greetings from Honolulu, Hawai'i... two "ponds" away from you, and once a part of the British Empire, as the Sandwich Islands, which is why the Union Jack is part of our State flag. 🤙💖🌴🌈
Two British Songs that have great meaning. This one and Jerusalem. Although proudly American my British and Norwegian ancestry place both countries close to my heart.
I've never been in the forces. I tried when I left school but was found not fit enough. This does'nt mean that I would'nt die for England and my Queen if there was an invasion. God bless England. God save the Queen. and god bless everyone of the British armed forces where ever you may be serving. We all owe you a great deal of gratitude.
I vow to thee my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love. The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best. The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know. We may not count her armies, we may not see her king, Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering. And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
I will always love you England. You are blessed above all nations. And rose by rose I see your land of honour and unending love. I would make the ultimate sacrifice for you. Today, I challenge anybody who reads this to write ten good reasons you love your nation.

Katherine is the best singer to sing this song. I never thought that this hymn could be sung so beautifully. Katherine is so talented and she should be a great singer.
Katherine has just received the OBE in the Queens new years Honours list for her Music ,charity work ,and ongoing support for British forces worldwide.Well deserved Katherine.! Wonder if she received Congrats. from The Royal British Legion after all they dumped her in 2008 .Shows how wrong they were.
my twin sister and i sang this very beautiful song in our primary school which was kings road , wombwell south yorkshire in the mid 50s ...how proud it made us feel even at such a young age xxxx long live england
This is a BRITISH patriotic song. Nowhere in the song is England mentioned. It was written as a song about ones homeland and heaven. It became a hymn in the 20s and we sing it in church at Armistice in Scotland.
Wow. Katherine the great! What a wonderful full voice. We don't hear her too much in Canada. That's our loss. And what a powerful hymn. How sad to see that Great Britain has forgotten the God who made her great. Any culture that forgets God will will lose hope, dignity and freedom.
+Luke Koziol you will not lose anything if you ask Him to show His presence in your life. I believe Him and am sure He is just waiting for your invitation so He can be part of your life. All you need is to speak to Him. He is everywhere.
For a society to reach its full potential it must abandon such archaic myths as religion; all it serves to do in the modern world is to cause conflict, oppression, and ignorance.
I have been following Katherine's career and watching, loving, and collecting her videos for some-fifteen years now. And I am wondering if she is considered a National Treasure, for multiple reasons, in Wales and in England. And if not, why not? 🤔🌹
I love this! It's my philosophy! I remember being called a cheetah by someone and they didn't realize my loyalty! I always help people, I always pray for the best and I try to understand those that are in sin or have earthy material gain as a priority or want to steal a husband. I never wish bad luck to my ex and his wives! I wish for healing and health!
@kopec1 I watched this video last night and was moved to strong tears as I read your gracious message. Thank God there are people everywhere, in every nation, who stand for decency and integrity. How have we allowed ourselves to be tricked by the shysters who want to make money and self-interest the center of our lives? Thank you again for your generosity. God bless you and your family.
I am a Welsh American, whose ancestors came here in the 18th century. So there's a lot mutt in me too. As much as I love my Welsh heritage, and acknowledge English arrogance, I believe God used the British Empire to accomplish His own wonderful purposes, in spite of themselves. And that purpose is not the Empire, nor any nation of my Celtic kinsmen. It is His Kingdom that He cares for, of which the song turns its attention, as should we. It stirs my soul to weeping.
Rick, as an Englishman, I want you to know that I hold my fellow Welsh (fellow Brits) with high regard). I am honoured to share this wonderful nations of nations alongside you. I vow to thee, my brother; I vow to thee, my country. :'O
I am a Brit whose family are not only English but Irish(the south of)Scots and Welsh also Cornish which means I am as Celtic as anyone who lives on these islands . However I appreciate our Irish brother does not share our view of WSC Our ruling class including the Irish contingent treated the Catholic south worse than the rest of the country. Just to give you a little more evidence to my further assertion that the Brit/Irish are all Celts is that when a recent archaeological dig took place in the county of Somerset. clearly part of England for over a thousand years. Some 8000 year old skeletons were found, DNA was recovered . Subsequently DNA was taken from living villagers at the nearby village of Cheddar. A direct match was made to a school teacher who lives with his family there
I suspect my ancestors have lived in these islands for 1500+ years (being a peasant, I can only trace back 500 yrs). If some came over with the Anglo Saxons they almost certainly cohabited/married with Celts. In the 19th century there was a Scot from Sutherland. I'm proud of them all. If we, in the British Isles, cannot make a Union succeed - God (or whatever) help the rest of the world! Tragic that we should follow the path of the Balkans/south east Europe. Together, the peasants of Great Britain achieved so much, despite the efforts of the ruling class. Sad to watch it ripped apart in the name of nationalism.
Secession often arises from emotionalism, which may or may not be good. The expense-of maintaining some two hundred embassies and consulates around the world, of building a self-standing defense force, of renegotiating hundreds of treaties and other contracts, of supporting services already available, etc.-is numerical, not emotional. Do you know what you seek? Will you be better off? Does it really make an effective difference from the way things are? Are you willing to pay for that difference? Have you counted the cost? In a way those questions are at the heart of this great patriotic hymn.
David Ramsey You can thank rampant, predatory capitalists and successive governments, who have empowered, aided and abetted them, for the turning inward of the two British Celtic nations. Do you think we are happy with the crumbs from the tables of those we have enriched through our labours? You've heard "better dead than red"? Well here's my awkward paraphrase, better destitute than prostitute. Proud to be this, proud to be that? Empty pride because there is no pride in being a minion of a carefully managed, cynically exploitative system that really has no consciousness of us as sentient flesh and blood and bone. Real beings with feelings, ambition and the wish to be free, enslaved by a wealthy elite that only see us as expendable but conveniently self replicating means to their ends? Stuff your mawkish anthems, they are all part of a device to instill the empty pride that keeps us half willingly bound to their breaking wheel. British nationalism, devolution, the sham of "democracy" are all a sleight of hand to draw our attention away from the truth of our existence, that it is only tolerated as long as it is of value to those few who believe they own us.

Perfect song, prefect singer, for the perfect occasion. The British seem to honor their fallen better than we do. I don't mean individually I mean as a Country. They salute their warriors. God Bless this Nation!
Very interesting, my secondary School's hymn in the 1960's was " What hero's hast thou bred Oh! England my country, I see thy mighty dead, mother of mine" Different world!
There is no song in this vacuous world that contours up our Empire and the soul of every Briton than this one even now as an inhabitant of these islands and my ancestors since 720 ad I feal the hairs raise on my back as a Briton yes need it day can't come quick enough and anyone as a Briton who has a soul should feel the same .this woman sings this hyme to perfection a pleasure to look at her and hear her and the words that remind us of our Empire the greatest and largest the world has ever known
I've never felt more proud of my English heritage than I do now. Britain shall never be slaves.. not to Brussels, Berlin, or Islam. 6/24/2016 will be remembered alongside similar dates in 1588 and 1940.
+Jesse Bains The British are Whites. Whites only bring and do good things. They are the only good people on earth. Every white person is a good person. Whites have brought only peace, love, joy, civilization and life everywhere on earth. May the Whites be blessed for all they have done on earth so far!
Proud to be British and presently feeling very humbled and emotional by this superlative rendition of my old school song. Any other, Old Purleans, 'out there', who feel the same having listened?
kathryn jenkins is The Voice of GOD ......HOW BEAUTIFUL HER MUSIC IS.....SHE REMINDS ME OF THE GIRL I LOVE VALERIE......WHO LEFT ME.....BUT I STILL HAVE HOPE THAT ONE DAY SHE WILL REALIZE .....THAT SHE IS LOVED ..
I am Canadian. I was part of the Honour Guard for the 162 Ridley College Army Cadet Core and herd this song played. I must say that this song is very nice. Cpl. Fazzari
"The USA stole so many British anthems and hymns, yet we couldn't have been bothered to steal this one, too?" -- American Methodist hymnal supplement, "The Faith We Sing," #2009 uses this "Thaxted" / Jupiter hymn tune.
"But not the tyrannical part." LOL ! You guys built a nation on private property and corporate greed and you have approx. 800 bases in the world checking everybody's move while Russia, France and the UK together only have 30. How dare say your country isn't tyrannical ?! Please, get your head out of your ass.
As an American currently ashamed of my radical Leninist "leader"-ship, I want to say a hearty THANK YOU for providing the example to us in outlawing slavery, Britain, and recognizing that, in the words of so many wise who came before us, WE ARE ALL BROTHERS UNDER THE SKIN Stop the race-ism and class-ism of Soviet aggressors. In every nation, in every heart!
Listening to this rousing song makes me want to watch the 1964 film Zulu again, where vastly outnumbered soldiers from a Welsh regiment of the British army won the most Victoria Crosses for a single engagement against the Zulus at Rorke's Drift in South Africa.
Very nice song, the music of Holst, Jupiter, the Bringer of jollity! Not only will you have a very good composer, I'm a fan of Holst, but you have beautiful singer;)
@Tchianniao Yes, Holst himself wanted to put it to the hymn I vow to thee my country, so he adapted it himself. This exerpt from Jupiter, when linked with the hymn, is called Thaxted.
This clip is the reason I'm one of the few Americans who hsd heard of Katherine before her appearance on Dancing with the Stars, (which everyone here thinks she should have won). Her stunning beauty was apparent even with the poor video quality of the video, and her beautiful voice was even better. Meeting her in Los Angeles was one of the greatest moments of my life..
the most beautiful song that describes the emotions in the simplest of all possible words....it just makes you realize how stupid we are to fight..how foolish we are to destroy the best thing we have...how ruthless we are to kill the innocent..and then we say we want peace...well if thats what we want then why is there destruction still... this song makes me cry..it makes u feel like somthings wrong out there...somethings missing..... peace...
I usually turn my nose up when I hear people suggest changing the National Anthem (or the flag). But I have to agree with you, this is much better that God Save The Queen; as much as I love the monarchy.
The hymn is about the sacrifice made during WWI by British soldiers, and the 'other country' refers to heaven. A wonderful hymn and my favourite.
Majority of British soldiers were Indian!
One of the proudest moments of my life was fighting along side the British army, i am also honored to thank the British army for coming to the aid of my platoon in our time of need.

Tingles down my spine the minute she started! And I love people from the US who still feel the connection they have with us fellas over the pond.

@Anglus Patria well, that's not my name actually.
My name is Rewan Clothman.
I vow to thee my country, all earthly things above,

Welsh Canadian here, whose father came from Wales in 1960. Katherine certainly does her bit to raise the too-often-understated Welsh profile.
Welsh should be on the Canadian shield not the French....
+finalfrontier001 Oh, you mean the Latin motto for "From Sea to Sea" on our crest? Yeah, it ought to be Welsh: "O fôr i fôr"...just imagine that...

A patriotic song by a wonderful singer and person. What's not to love? Every nation should be proud and unashamed to sing.
How beautiful. Her delivery is perfect, her diction clear, I am filled with admiration. Very moving. The final climax "soul by soul" is thrilling.
Beautiful lady, beautiful song, BEAUTIFUL NATION.
Took the words out of my mouth. Beautiful lady, amazing delivery, brass band, proud nation. She did justice.

Very interesting, my secondary School's hymn in the 1960's was " What hero's hast thou bred Oh! England my country, I see thy mighty dead, mother of mine" Different world!
I must search this song... School hymns were great, when you look back at them.
Edit: please can you send a link to the song?
Makes me proud to be British.
Lovely hymn sung by a lovely young queen of Opera. Sing on Katherine
Beutifull,Lovely,Georgeus, fantastic, the hymn is nice as well!!! The blackvulcan has spoken!!
It breaks my heart what is becoming of Britain.

Blow away windbag
Jesse Bains Like I said.
Yes, yes, yes!!!!! So beautiful!!!! I love this song so much!!!!!!! So, nice...
It is such a shame that those proud Rhodesians who also made the sacifice are currently excluded from Remembrance Day.
Robert Crawfurd bring back Rhodesia
Proud to be British and presently feeling very humbled and emotional by this superlative rendition of my old school song. Any other, Old Purleans, 'out there', who feel the same having listened?
Beautiful hymn of pure virtue and patriotic consecration
This was the first time I ever saw Katherine, and one best things that ever happened to me.
Even better when I actually met her.
Beautiful lady,beautiful voice

"The USA stole so many British anthems and hymns, yet we couldn't have been bothered to steal this one, too?"
-- American Methodist hymnal supplement, "The Faith We Sing," #2009 uses this "Thaxted" / Jupiter hymn tune.
Not stole; it's your heritage too. And I'm British.
The USA is a product of England, but not the tyrannical part. God bless America, the greatest nation ever conceived!
"But not the tyrannical part." LOL ! You guys built a nation on private property and corporate greed and you have approx. 800 bases in the world checking everybody's move while Russia, France and the UK together only have 30. How dare say your country isn't tyrannical ?! Please, get your head out of your ass.
This shound be our national anthem at school I sang this and may be proud ans still does.
As an American currently ashamed of my radical Leninist "leader"-ship, I want to say a hearty THANK YOU for providing the example to us in outlawing slavery, Britain, and recognizing that, in the words of so many wise who came before us,
WE ARE ALL BROTHERS UNDER THE SKIN
Stop the race-ism and class-ism of Soviet aggressors. In every nation, in every heart!
Way to go, Katherine! You are the best!
What a Singer and What a Song .Well done Katherine
"right or wrong, my country right or wrong...my beloved country"
Absolutely amazing song and beautiful voice excellent.
@AykayUK
Love this hymn from Jupiter - excellent source of inspiration!
This hymn, is not only for anglos, it makes anyone proud of their our own country. I Love America land of the free and home if the brave.
Listening to this rousing song makes me want to watch the 1964 film Zulu again, where vastly outnumbered soldiers from a Welsh regiment of the British army won the most Victoria Crosses for a single engagement against the Zulus at Rorke's Drift in South Africa.
WOW, very moving performance for her.
puts down cup of tea.... salutes
makes me totally well up, CJ beautiful in several ways!
Same tune as my high school anthem. Our director is so creative
katherine is simply wonderful and this song suits her style!
This is part of Gustav Holst's Saturn of The Planets. It is in the Lutheran Book of Worship with different words.
+ECouncil 360 That would be Jupiter
Holst adapted the tune of Jupiter to match the words of the poem.

This hymn is called I Vow To Thee My Country for a reason, it's for the English.
I am American, but this song cries out to my Scottish, Welsh, and Irish roots. A part of me still belongs in the British Isles.
Britannia needs her sons now more than ever.
England's National Anthem- I vow to thee my country.
United Kingdom's National Anthem- God save the Queen
Stunning!!!
She's perfect
This clip is the reason I'm one of the few Americans who hsd heard of Katherine before her appearance on Dancing with the Stars, (which everyone here thinks she should have won).
Her stunning beauty was apparent even with the poor video quality of the video, and her beautiful voice was even better. Meeting her in Los Angeles was one of the greatest moments of my life..
When I'm old enough I will vow to thee my country! xxx
I think it's awesome how the wind always blows gently at her when she sings.....
the most beautiful song that describes the emotions in the simplest of all possible words....it just makes you realize how stupid we are to fight..how foolish we are to destroy the best thing we have...how ruthless we are to kill the innocent..and then we say we want peace...well if thats what we want then why is there destruction still...
this song makes me cry..it makes u feel like somthings wrong out there...somethings missing.....
peace...
i love this hymn but i think it sounds better when there's a group of people singing it. sends shivers down your spine.
I usually turn my nose up when I hear people suggest changing the National Anthem (or the flag). But I have to agree with you, this is much better that God Save The Queen; as much as I love the monarchy.
I LOVE THIS SONG , SO BEAUTIFUL
An observation from the other side of the pond... You know what once made you great, turn back to it, and you will be blessed as before.
