“Today the word "hero" has been diminished. confused with "celebrity." But in my father's generation the word meant something. celebrities seek fame. They take actions to get attention. Most often, the actions they take have no particular moral content. Heroes are heroes because they have risked something to help others. Their actions involve courage. william lydon my dad is and always will be my hero! My dad decided that the day after he graduated high school he joined the U.S. ARMY during the Vietnam war. He still will not tell me anything about it except that 58,000+ of his brothers died there!
I always thought that the meaning of the word hero is that someone who saves a life without thinking of any rewards for doing the right things. Men who sacrificed their lives for a greater cause is, in my book, is the real meaning of being a hero, not the men who played sports. To all who serves and protect our country and to all who wears the uniforms of the military community, on behalf of the astronomical community, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
Today if you get into trouble, you get publically or privately disgraced and quite possibly fired, quite the contrary in years past if you crossed the line or stood up to something - you got killed, maybe very slowly and so did those of your family and maybe village. Bravery today is measured by going along with popular trends for which no price is to be paid and for which no failure is conferred. Lord Gordon put it all on the line and he was rewarded with a terrible death, mutilitation and a mere footnote in the history books, today a forgotten hero who took no gold for his victories.
True, just about every man in my neighborhood served in WW II and none of them ever spoke of 'heroic actions' or bloody gore, they knew that even the toughest man could be killed in combat circumstance by a 15 cent bullet that had his name on it! No, they considered the dead and gravely wounded heroes and of themselves as being lucky survivors!
Brought tears to my eyes. I can’t express in words the emotions that come to mind when I think of the sacrifices these brave men fighting for freedom. God Bless them all, may they never be forgotten 🇺🇸
We shall not grow old as they who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them or the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We Will Remember Them.
Yes, he was a true literary genius who has never been matched since, although I do like Charles Dickens! Can yyou imagine if Shakespeare if he was alive today writing all sorts of dialogue for films, TV and theater!
You never lived to see What you gave to me One shining dream of hope and love Life and liberty With a host of brave unknown soldiers For your company, you will live forever Here in our memory In fields of sacrifice Heroes paid the price Young men who died for old men's wars Gone to paradise We are all one great band of brothers And one day you'll see we can live together When all the world is free I wish you'd lived to see All you gave to me Your shining dream of hope and love Life and liberty We are all one great band of brothers And one day you'll see - we can live together When all the world is free
I was going to read the lyrics aloud to my daughter, and I had to stop after "you never lived to see what you gave to me"--crying. Just like the miniseries, this is beautiful and powerful.
The beauty of this song should not only invoke praise, but a call to be higher and better than we are today. The part of the world that is free is threatened quite deeply by the part of it that is dark, and unless a new generation of heroes arises, songs like this will do nothing more than hail a forgotten memory. Memories of historical heroism are not meant to be nice pretty sentimental recollections we can all dreamily wish the world would return to. No. Those memories are preserved as a call to duty, honor, and country for every civilian that are recollected in history by force rather than by choice only when people of their own free will choose to forget them.
Every year there are two series that I watch at about this time....November. "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" I NEVER want to forget the sacrifices that the "Greatest Generation" made for the rest of us still living. My dad, God rest his soul, was a WWII Marine that served in the Island Campaign to defeat Japan. My family's long-gone best friend went ashore with the Army during the Normandy Campaign during WWII and fought all the way to Germany. God rest his soul. Growing up in the late 1950s through the 2000s these were my friends, the Greatest Generation. I learned so much from them. I relished their stories from the war and from the Great Depression. My last friend from that generation passed in 2016. Most of that generation has left us now. I feel so all alone and sad. God bless you and thank you..............
A beautiful ballad about a time when America was strong from without and from within. God help us and forgive us for how far we've fallen and for what we've become. The days of the Greatest Generation are no more.
i've been in combat for the UN for 13 month.. the best and worst 13 month of my life. and THIS song gives me goosebumps all over my Body. honor those fallen 70 years ago.. so we could live in this world today with no more worries than and waste our time writinge useless and stupid comments with no other Point than harming others.
You don't honor those who have fought for freedom from oppression by fighting for a crooked, corrupt, God-hating organization like the UN. You think you're honoring those who have fallen when in truth you're working for the same type of men who cause those men to fall in the first place. Piss on your UN- we fight for the history and sovereignty of individual nations and this is how we honor those who died to defend that. Are you an American by chance? Man I hope you're not. I'd be embarrassed to see a US citizen proudly fighting for an anti-American international body like the UN. Good luck, champ. May Christ Jesus keep and bless you
sure waste your time fighting 3rd world countries you have never seen meaningful combat so you cant go comparing fucking around in Bosnia to on the d day beaches it only makes you appear weaker
I can't name a single piece of contemporary music that is moving enough to put a tear in a man's eye. But then again, not a lot of contemporary music can be as beautiful as this piece.
No, while i like R&R it has no or little emotion to it and no great vocal voice or mastery is required to succeed in it, given all of the sudio sound engineering and effetcs.
Nothing compares. I firmly believe that Beethovens 9th symphony and Ode To Joy is still the most moving piece ever written in music. I am a young guy and listen to modern music, and My students argue that Pop Smoke, Lil Uzi, drake, Post Malone are the best. I hate to say it, but they don’t even understand.
What an incredible woman!!! Most beautiful woman with the most beautiful voice on the planet. I listen to some Katherine just about every day. Love this particular hairstyle on her.

I always felt that the heroes were not the guys who got the parades, like Eisenhower, MacArthur. They were, after all, career soldiers whose job was to fight wars. And, in some cases, never heard a shot fired in anger. The heroes are the guys who didn't want to be there but did it anyway. Some were good soldiers, some probably not so good, but they were there when it counted.
My farther refused to talk about WW2 and his army service, except once he said to me “ many young men were killed, good looking young men, all gone”. I think he had a hard war.
So true, the goal of the WW II draftee was to do the job at hand and make it back to civilian in one piece and of sound mind! The eastern front had the wrost fighting, millions lost on that front!
It's really something that most of the comments here are from men who aren't afraid shed a tear for someone they knew who lost their lives protecting us. P.I.P. and thank you for your service!
heroes you will never be forgotten, R.I.P all allies and axis soldiers...you were defending your country best you could... only the dead have seen the end of war - Plato
This is the first time I've heard KATHERINE JENKINS sing. Yes,I've been under a rock. Absolutely a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel! She could sing her way through the phone book and I'd sit there enjoying every minute. I'm a fan!!!
No matter the nationality of the soldier, it be German or Polish, American or Japanese, British or Italian, Russian or Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, French or any other during WWII, every soldier had only one goal in mind. TO serve their country. And no matter the nationality of the soldier, each soldier did his job every well, to defend and serve their country. Each soldiers of each nation did that to the best of his abiliities I think we can all agree.
I am totally impressed with this lady. Not only does she sing like an angel and beautiful, she also has a heart like Florence Nightingale. I found out she visited Afghanistan and Iraq numerous times to visit British Soldiers to lift their spirits. If only US soldiers can be so lucky.

My grandfather’s division liberated Dachau in 1945. He died in 1981 when I was just a child, so I never heard his personal story. But I heard the history of that event, they were all heroic in their own regards.

Can't thank everyone when you only have 2 minutes on the clock. i do of course thank the Soviets for the lives they gave. but not exactly the practice that came in the months and years after the war
Tomás Dombek USSR was a beast. They lost 22 million people, but killed te same. Not only the Germans, but also Poles. Stalin and his government were killing also Russian people. We should thank the heroes, but they are not on the side of the Soviets. If you want to know more about the Soviets read about it what they did in Katyn, Kharkov, Starobilsk etc. Read about the murders on AK (Armia Krajowa) soldiers, who were under the Polish government-in-exile which is the most faithful allies of the U.S., Britain and France. Do not read russian sources, because they are full of pro-Soviet propaganda.
I'm sure the west would be happy to blame Moscow for Chernobyl and the Americans getting the praise if they could for cleaning the waste up. When it comes to Western politics, British and American especially, i'm very sceptical and cynical about what i believe. remember, there is a LIE in beLIEve!
This requiem is deeply moving and is a befitting tribute to the soldiers of World War II and those of all wars modern and old who gave their lives on the battlefield.
As an American, I accept, and am flattered by your praise. Your post here is one of the most thoughtful and honorable tributes to our nation's sacrifice in Europe that could be written. As long as there are brave men like you wiling to sacrifice their lives for freedom, it will never perish!
Unfortunately, Donald Malarkey passed away in September this year, I am not entirely sure whether there are any men from Easy Company still left with us.
Unfortunately for many other companies and squads, the only company that most of us speak of was this one, the only one we really got to see their stories and get a good idea of their state of mind during some engagements, and see interpretations about what happened to them during their tour of duty, and they experienced more than we would ever see in our lifetime in 2 days time or less, and they did that for many years. I still go back and look at some of the nice tribute videos to the different men of easy company that have passed on now, and also to see other stories from the wars morbid i know but the stories them self are not morbid in anyway they show a love for their fellow soldiers and that they are indeed a band of brothers.
Such a beautiful sentiment. Free of human malignancy and speaks about genuine values which the soldiers of the Commonwealth and the States thought for. Liberty and freedom, only history could taint such a vision. Young men flying the colours of their country high, glistening with ideals and patriotism they go fight the wars of their country, for other generations to do it all over again. Will my generation experience total war ? I hope not, but fate is ferocious and violent.
To the men and women from WW II who taught a young boy lessons of life! The Veterans from W. A.& R. Ouellette Post 8502 Westport, Mass. and their wives! I am eternally grateful to you all and thankful everyday for being a part of my life! Always missed and loved and never forgotten!!!!!! Thank you God for putting them in my life! Amen

its the lyric but refers to the cross marking a british soldier buried on the battlefield but not identified. British french and US have tombs in memory of all such soldiers and im sure many other countries do to. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unknown_Warrior
All those young men had Mothers and Fathers , they all had their dreams and desires ... Yet they answered the call and put their lives on hold , as did my Father and Four Uncles . God Bless those young heroes who died to keep us free . God Bless Them ALL.
From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be rememberèd- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me This is all soldiers not only in world wars
My father landed on Normandy and fought thru France, Holland, and Belgium into the Ardennes and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Belgian Croix de Guerre. He never talked about the war while I was growing up. When I joined the Navy, he then would talk to me, but not my siblings. This is a beautiful song but I couldn't understand a word she sang. Great voice, though.
The lyrics really give words to what we felt hearing this track. Its pretty genius, how tension arrives at the mention of sacrifice, how the harmony is resolved when the soldiers live "in our memory" and how triumphant it becomes at mention of unity. Genius
As an ex British Soldier Parachute & Tank Reg, I would like to say Thank You and God Bless to all the soldiers American & British & ALL other Nations who made the supreme sacrifice so we could have out todays freedom, although the song was written for the Bob, I think it is dedicated to ALL the soldiers who never came back, and are buried in some distant field, and I have visited most of them to show my thanks and respect, and left buckets of my tears on their soil. God Bless them ALL.Thank You.
To be sure : I am absolelutely against war and death and mayhem. But I will never never never accept that someone tramples on the graves off those many young lives lost in useless battles. We can only respect the sacrifie those young soldiers made . A big respectfull reminder to them
You never lived to see... What you gave to me. One shining dream of hope and love... Life and liberty. With a host of brave unknown soldiers. For your company, you will live forever, Here in our memory.
My Great-Grandfather fought for Germany in the 21st Panzer Division. I agree with you completely, none of these ordinary soldiers wanted to be there, fighting a war they did not want to. They were forced by evil, insane men at the top of the Reichstag. Panzerobergrenadier Friedrich Schneider 1913 - 2001
SuperSheep957 Just to agree with you in principle. Wars are not fought agaoinst individual soldiers but against "Ideologies". Man is never content with what he has but must try to take from others. It is the soldier who must suffer to achieve what his government enforces upon him.
In the final analysis, every world despot in history has risen on the backs of the masses, whether this support be either active or passive matters not! My great surprise is that after every war, the defeated nation's populace does not rise up to hold into account those national leaders responsible for the war failures. WWI (The Great War) is a prime example of the populaces of Great Britain and France giving their war leaders a 'pass' on losing all the lives during the war and in 20 years WW II started as a result of the poor end of WW I. Go figure!

The goosebumps factor on this piece, and the whole series for that part, is enormous.
Truly amazing.

Band of Brothers ... yet another gem given to the English language by William Shakespeare
Yes, he was a true literary genius who has never been matched since, although I do like Charles Dickens! Can yyou imagine if Shakespeare if he was alive today writing all sorts of dialogue for films, TV and theater!
Try to enjoy his masterpieces, before some politically correct nuts will destroy it!
@@alessiodecarolis Well, you’re not wrong.

It makes you humble ... when you realize how many gave their lives without hesitation to grant us freedom.
I think Katherine Jenkins has the most beautiful voice on the planet and she makes me tear up on this song.
💜🙏it hurts to think of the loss of all our young 😭😭😭💜🙏
To my uncles Jim and Lawson who were WWII veterans. They sacrificed their youth for us.
You never lived to see
What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty
With a host of brave unknown soldiers
For your company, you will live forever
Here in our memory
In fields of sacrifice
Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men's wars
Gone to paradise
We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see we can live together
When all the world is free
I wish you'd lived to see
All you gave to me
Your shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty
We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see - we can live together
When all the world is free
thank u very much 💘
Beautiful... Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!
Why do people like you feel the need to paste the lyrics here? You people are so fucking annoying
Thank you for the words, the song has much more meaning 🙏🏻🕊
I was going to read the lyrics aloud to my daughter, and I had to stop after "you never lived to see what you gave to me"--crying. Just like the miniseries, this is beautiful and powerful.
For whosever sheds his blood with me this day shall my brother be, be he ne'er so base....we few, we happy few. We band of brothers.
To all the men and women who served, are serving, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice,
Thank you.
Such Pain! My sister's grandson was killed Afghanistan on her birthday! It was a tough time! She grieved severely!
Thomas McGee and where have you been?
i dont honor you organization should of fought for your country but i honor your position
Is there something meaningful in your comment ? Explain.............
No argument there! A great voice indeed!

I still deeply respect them all
The true heroes are the ones that didn't come home with us...

Watching Band of brothers has made me look at the world in a different light. It really spoke to my heart.
It's really something that most of the comments here are from men who aren't afraid shed a tear for someone they knew who lost their lives protecting us. P.I.P. and thank you for your service!
they shed gratitude tears...that´s why they´re real men ...

When I watch this show or hear the music I often cry, I wish i were as brave as these men.

My grandfather’s division liberated Dachau in 1945. He died in 1981 when I was just a child, so I never heard his personal story. But I heard the history of that event, they were all heroic in their own regards.
Thank you 101st.
Thank you to the unsung Algerian heros.
Thank you to the British Armed forces.

And to those especially who fought against the Nazis without weapons. Who gave there lives so that we may live is a free world.

I can't believe you're not thanking the soviets, who lost more than 22 million people fighting against the germans.
Can't thank everyone when you only have 2 minutes on the clock.
i do of course thank the Soviets for the lives they gave. but not exactly the practice that came in the months and years after the war
Tomás Dombek
USSR was a beast.
Soviet Union played one of the biggest part, which isn't talked about much due to the Cold War, the West trying not to praise them.
R.I.P William Guarnere who passed away March 8th 2014
Yes, very sad indeed. Donald Malarkey I believe is the sole remaining survivor of Easy Company now.
Gavin Mackie
maybe the only one left from the show, there were others who were never named.
nagantm441 Edward Tipper is still alive too. He played a small part in the show.
guess its just edward tipper and donald malarkey :(
Unfortunately, Donald Malarkey passed away in September this year, I am not entirely sure whether there are any men from Easy Company still left with us.
All Soldiers of WW2 (Americans,Germans,British,Japanese,French,...)
Rest In Peace! ;)
P.S.: Nice music!
AMEN 👍✝️🕎
A must listen on Memorial Day
And on every other day. Remember and appreciate the sacrifice of those who saw evil and did what needed to be done.
Totally off the scale, unbelievable voice, now, THAT is singing, I doubt anyone in the top 4000 of any music charts could hit those notes.
Amen

Sjak Ventieltjes Unknown? Those soldiers were brothers, fathers, sons, friends, enemies and lovers.
its the lyric but refers to the cross marking a british soldier buried on the battlefield but not identified. British french and US have tombs in memory of all such soldiers and im sure many other countries do to. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unknown_Warrior

Let's talk about this amazing woman singing this amazing song. She is beyond wonderful.
God bless 'em. Every one.
Thx to all soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom. All U.S troops who died in France and the other: my respects ! Bless you all
so beautiful
My father landed on Normandy and fought thru France, Holland, and Belgium into the Ardennes and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Belgian Croix de Guerre. He never talked about the war while I was growing up. When I joined the Navy, he then would talk to me, but not my siblings. This is a beautiful song but I couldn't understand a word she sang. Great voice, though.
My Memorial Day Song
wow have a round of applause for this amazing performance
"When all the world is free.." Yes, but when will we ever learn?
Remembering the mistakes of the past is the foundation for preventing their repeat in the future. Props to ya brotha.
that was beautiful!
The lyrics really give words to what we felt hearing this track. Its pretty genius, how tension arrives at the mention of sacrifice, how the harmony is resolved when the soldiers live "in our memory" and how triumphant it becomes at mention of unity. Genius
RIP all Americans who have fought and suffered wars of centurys and more...Thank you
aye dont forget the germans, british, soviets, and some other countries whos in the war :|
God Bless them ALL.Thank You.

and dont forget some other contries
To be sure : I am absolelutely against war and death and mayhem.
But I will never never never accept that someone tramples on the graves off those many young lives lost in useless battles.
We can only respect the sacrifie those young soldiers made .
A big respectfull reminder to them

Beautiful, stunning. Brought tears to my eyes.
Go figure!
Shut up Nazi, don’t give me that clean Wehrmacht myth bullshit
Yeah just like the 200 brits you killed in the barn you murdering bastard
@@touko_nanamiWhere is your proof that he is a Nazi? Just because he speaks about his grandfather and that makes him a Nazi? That's like me saying because your RUclips name is "War Crime" that you are some war criminal. Use some common sense.
I remember watching this on my Mum's 70th birthday which was 10.11.07 when we went away for a weekend, made me cry then. 9 years and a day after her 79th Birthday on 11.11.16 she passed away on Armistice day and is now with her Lord in glory. Armistice day which was so poignant for me is even more filled with remembrance not only for our brave service men and women but for an amazing Mum. Happy Memories!!
"when you go home tell them of us......."
My mother was born in 1918 and my father was born in 1919. Neither one served in the military, but they were part of the greatest generation as were all Americans were who lived during that time.❤❤❤
Beautiful song and amazing salute to all those past and present who would hold the line against wrong doing. Just a shame tho that the rest of us squander their sacrifice and gifts by repeating the same stupid over and over, separated only by unsurmountable gulfs of a generation or less and our own hubris and arrogance.
The best performance of this song live ever.
The passion and storytelling of the song reflect the passion of the WW2 soldiers and makers of the Band of Brothers series.
