Proud to say my Dad drove one of these off the Mulberry Harbour onto Arromaches beach on D-Day+2.
Grandad was in the trenches in WW1 too.
I'll be getting this . Great review. Thanks.

Just wanna say thank you for being part of me getting back into this awesome hobby. Between you, Nightshift, Plasmo, and Lou Dalmaso, I get tons of inspiration. Just saying, would a1/16 M42 Duster be in the cards? Asking for a friend. 😊

FWIW, in the 1940s Elizabeth was indeed a Princess. She did not become Queen until about 1952. So the packaging is correct.

True. They just do not print "Elizabeth" on the box. Otherwise would probably have to get the "Crown"'s' approval. The old "By appointment to her/his majesty the Queen/King".🙂

these carriers caused the Germans a lot of problems in France 1940 I read . The British used them virtually like light tanks supporting infantry , attacking German mg and AT positions and RAN DOWN fleeing Germans. the carriers had virtually no armour though so it was pretty risky for the crews.

High time we had some Commonwealth subjects in this scale. Some carriers were even used by US forces on Guadelcanal. It seems they weren't very popular, though. Probably just too strange. Four great releases from Gecko. So much for putting my stash on a diet.

Carriers were used everywhere by the British and Empire forces. a number were sent to USSR too.. they were still being used by Canadians in Korea in 1950s

I attended a show called War & Peace Revival show a few years back. It used to be a massive show. There was a guy selling a Bren carrier and It was fully equiped with the Bren, Enfields. bigger than a jeep in length and width, but still as small as a medium sized saloon of the time.
I didn't buy it. But later in the day they had a Bren Carrier race around the show ground course. They could really shift.

about time something not American or German was released in 1/16.. there is so much potential with the Carrier.. they were used by British and Commonwealth armies throughout ww2 and Korean war.. thousands were sent to the USSR too.. some captured carriers were re-roled by Germans as a tank-hunter.

17:33 That kit is gonna be hoovered up by a fair few RC modellers I think, for a dummy engine in their builds around that scale. It's just a ford flathead V8, after all, with a little creative weathering and kitbashing itt'l fit into a rat rod quite nicely.

Just a note to say that I’ve built a number of Gecko kits at 1:16 and 1:35 and have to say that I have found their models to be excellent……Got this kit on pre-order and will certainly get the engine too which I was not aware of until Andy’s update. The detail is excellent on the kits I’ve built thus far…..👍

That Universal/Bren Carrier looks like a lovely kit. If it had a roof they'd call it with interior. NOT full interior though.
It has so much detail that if you bought it you would feel that it was incomplete without its' engine, and it is. It is not included, by design, so that they can make you buy another kit to complete the model.
At best, I'd call that "Sharp" business practice, at worst I'd say they are ripping-off their buyers.
Personally, I'd love to have this kit BUT I'd be waiting for a resin printed engine because it will be better - and - I wouldn't be giving Gecko a whole lot more money for something they should have included in the kit in the first place.

    • @truthhurts9241
      @truthhurts9241 8 месяцев назад

@darkwood777 what I was getting at is that it has an interior already (even down to the gate for the gear lever) - except the engine.
