    Nice cleaner Mark, I just googled using evaporust with it and one person says to seal the part in a baggie with a bit of evaporust and immerse it in the tub filled with water. It supposedly speeds up the process nicely. Enjoyed, cheers!

    Great review there Winky. I have a much smaller ultrasonic cleaner of some other brand but works the same. I was using it to clean pistols but got afraid it might clean off more than I wanted. It is a lot easier to heat up my 3 quarts. Thanks for the video keep on keeping on.

    Good morning Mark,
    Nice review......a few ppl have touched on this already but it is way easier to put the part to be cleaned in a smaller container immersed in the cleaning solution, and then immerse the smaller container in water, inside the main cavity of the cleaner, that way the cleaner doesnt totally dirty the entire inside of the cleaner body itself. A zip lock plastic bag or small plastic container will work. I have a 12L cleaner and this method works exceptionally well saving cleaner solution and cleanup mess as well. On some parts that are stubbornly dirty, I advise brushing them lightly between ultrasonic cycles to loosen some of the caked on/in dirt.
    All the best,
    Don

    Hey Mark, i have one too. I start with 60°C hot water, 1 tablespoon citric acid powder and then the cleaning solution. Gives me excellent results when parts got slightly rusted too.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  11 месяцев назад

      I've actually used the citric before in a small ultrasonic. You're right, it works well, i just never thought about mixing it with other cleaners.

    I have the same unit and use 1 gallon zep citrus degreaser and fill the rest with water. I’ve done some heavy duty cleaning of parts off my 28 yr old dump truck and carburetors and pretty much anything else I can throw in there that needs intense cleaning. Works spectacular. The zep citrus degreaser is safe for use on aluminum. I change the solvent maybe once every 5-8 washes. Even when I drain it it’s cleaning ability persists.
    People complain how long it takes for the bay to heat up. When you first start it, you need to run a cleaning cycle to establish circulation. This will heat up a lot quicker and the rate will advance quickly once natural circulation can take over.

    Hey Mark, how big is your shop? Did you ever say? It kinda looks like you have a large basement with a two car garage door on one end and no walls.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  10 месяцев назад

      It's 22 x 27. Which is about half my basement, yes drive in.

    • @robert574
      @robert574 10 месяцев назад

      Wow, it looks a lot bigger when I see empty floor space behind you. I really need to clean out my garage. You can only pack stuff in so tight. My neighbor up the street has built a small wood stand under everything with wheels. It looks like he's having a garage sale when he's working on a project and rolls everything out in the driveway. Then he just rolls it all back in and blows all the sawdust into the yard. His driveway and the street are a little sloped and someday I may get some new equipment down here at the bottom of the hill.

      @@robert574 I wish it was bigger! Really, the table saw and outfeed table take up a lot of room. If I didn't have the saw I'd have plenty of room. I take advantage of space under my saw table and lathe.

    I was just reading about makers spaces around Orlando, but there's not much. Hey Mark, for $50 a month can we all come over to your house? There might be a lot of pounding and sawing noises in the middle of the night though. We could put up two or three of those portable enclosures outside to hang out in or maybe a few large shipping containers for classrooms. I've seen some really big ones on the lot outside of Walmart. We had a large old tech school where I grew up in MO (gone now, a really large tornado took it out). I really miss it, they had everything. Wouldn't it be nice if the YMCA or someone would have a shop for us to work in? What if you went to a machine shop and offered to pay them to work there? hmmm..... Who would have a machine shop, sheet metal, welding and woodworking area? I've seen where people rent storage units to work in. Way more than $50 a month though.

      Well not sure. I have some space limitations here but I like the way you are thinking. The makers space in Knoxville is amazing. Lets pool our money together and buy some lottery tickets. This town I'm in has a few empty buildings we could buy for a half million.

    Vevor might as well read "CCP". I'm not saying I haven't enjoyed some of my dirt cheap import products, but let there be no confusion- they are one and the same.
    With that said, would I be building my own CNC if I had to buy Hiwin linear rails and NSK ball screws and a German Spindle with a Japanese VFD? Probably not. Would I own 2, 3, and 4 inch angle lock vise from the likes of Kurt or a 5 axis vise from Orange? Probably not.
    Just don't kid yourself.. those dollars are going right to the CCP. Their products are certainly a lot better than where they were a decade ago and they're improving at an incredible rate, providing excellent value for us small shops / hobby shops. Here's to hoping the relationship between the US and China does not degrade any further. Keep those cheap (but good) linear rails, indexable carbide cutting tools, vise, ball screws, and more coming on in.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  11 месяцев назад +3

      I totally understand and agree. I'm not as concerned about feeding the Chinese as I am eliminating our own manufacturing. I think what stifled my efforts was that I was buying what I thought was American made and they were actually Chinese at double the price. So basically I was employing an importer and not supporting any manufacturing. I think to bring manufacturing jobs back it's going to take a shift in priorities. Those at the top of the US food chain are going to have come down to a comfortable income level. 735 billionaires in the US! People say the word BILLION and have no real idea how much a billion is. 20 of the 735 Billionaires have over 50 Billion! If you save $100 per year it takes 27,000 years to save 1-billion.

    Fill that baby with light oil and you could quench and heat treat your parts in it along with degreasing. AND, nothing rusts later. Something like that would be great for all your tools.

      @WinkysWorkshop  10 месяцев назад

      I agree... I may need to buy one in the future.

    • @robert574
      @robert574 10 месяцев назад

      I've often thought that it would be nice to have a container of just clean 10 weight oil and a basket to set your tooling, cutters, collets, etc. to make sure they always get a light coat of oil. Almost like a parts washer, but smaller, with a screen for parts to lay on and the oil is underneath. You could lower the tray into the oil or fix it above it. Then have a fine filter (like one of those Amsoil filters that cleans the oil like new again) with a light pressure sprayer to apply it. Then a drain valve and hose barb for cleaning. You might need to pump the oil thru the filter and cycle it back into the pan to get the filter to clean well. Just thinking after seeing the ultrasonic cleaner. You are more than half way there with one of those and it's ultrasonic.
