EDIT: On the Epi concerns, I too have become disappointed with the current direction (towards expensive artist models and generally higher prices) and lower quality. From 2020-2022 they really peaked and for some reason, that positive direction they seemed committed to appears to have become less important to maintain. Let's hope that whoever is at the helm there rights the ship and addresses the problems.
@@Baytle-BryanThat's actually quite normal on the epiphones and has been for many years. Best to upgrade but I couldn't tell you an affordable replacement that won't chip or tarnish but yeah quite normal for the gold plated bridges and pickup covers and other pieces on epiphones and other cheaper models! I'm not a fan of the gold hardware even if it did stay good and I personally on the customs and other models that would come with gold would automatically change it up to nickel or chrome but that's just me... don't like the fake gold hardware on anything.

I love the shape and the look/feel, but really my Epi's give that. I love things that are hand made, and just looking at the carves on the Eastmans, it is so much more human than all the CNC stuff these days.
@@baabaabaa-yp2jh On the subject of Jr DCs - I've had Gibson, Maybach DC Jr's . The Maybach was brilliant but never bonded. The Gibson...na. My current DC Jr is a Harley Benton FAT which I swapped the pickup for a Lollar, plus a new bridge, CTS pots and a bone nut. F'ing killer! Really light and sounds. great.

I played both the Eastman's before l bought em, so l already liked em.... But, lve got a Tele l thought l liked, now not so much! I'm in Australia, so l.only see the odd HB for sale 2nd hand, l think our shipping and taxes don't make them that much of a bargain. Oh, if you ever think of swapping pickups, there's a bloke out here, JJs...they make great gear and it's cheap...l got a set of p90s (3/4 charged al3 magnets) for my LP Special.. brilliant! Except he switched from the Garbage Gibson 335, to the Sheraton II pro headstock and it played beautifully. John Lee Hooker even said the Sheraton is the Gibson 335 killer!!
The Sheraton of it`s day has little to do with what is being produced at present. Each instrument must be evaluated on it`s own merits. All these companies have changed hands over the years and what was once true, may not be true in these times.@@bryangoodwin6626

Hi Colin! Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and a blessed and joyous New Year! As I have said before, after my accident, your videos were my distraction and entertainment through a long recovery. It was a year since my busted shoulder on December 8th. It is only now that I can play without pain and with some dexterity. I did make a few purchases this year--a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Tele -- in butterscotch. It is absolutely brilliant! Also, I am in the process of a Squier CV Mustang in vintage white. I will let you know all about it... Anyway, my deepest thanks for getting me though a tough year. All the best! Harry

Still love'n my Epi '59 "Inspired by Gibson" Les Paul, it's a fantastic guitar. Enjoying my Sheraton 2 Pro also. The story for me this year though, is discovering how great PRS SE guitars are. I now have 3 of them & can't put them down.😀
The Tele segment made me remember how poorly received that T-Style guitar from PRS was received this year. Man, that guitar was actively off-putting. Thanks for a great year of amazing videos. Cheers, homie.
It was a roller coaster year wasn’t it? I had one myself. Acquired three guitars brought another out of retirement, so four guitars this year that I don’t have room for and haven’t sold any. Next year I will focus on getting rid of some gear I don’t use or need. And some gear I can use to get other gear by trade or selling to fund it. I just realized I should do an inventory but I have gear scattered from one side of town to the other. I forced myself to go to some jam nights and that was productive and fun too. I auditioned for a band and got the gig. So that’s good, I still have it. lol Happy holidays, next year is going to be awesome.

Love your show. I think of it as the Bernie Marsden show, lol. You have the right look, your manner is very similar. The capper is you have that laid back playing style where every note is important and you have to pull out not from the gear but your touch . I will be 77 on the 3rd. I am still at it at least 4 hours every day. lol. All thru the 70's I was the guitarist for Tallis. We lived and played the London West End clubs everyone played coming up. I met most of the greats. Clapton (he let me play his guitar) , Hendrix twice. I went saw Joe Pass with Steve Howe. We had a following big enough that we opened for Rush. Ronnie Wood stepped in and found me a good deal so I could get my first Marshall JMP50. I could write a book :-) I haven't played a cover song since '69. I have written hundreds of tunes but only hang onto my best which are now 33. My goal is if the tune doesn't stick in the listeners head like for example Smoke on the Water. It goes. You have a verse, chorus and middle 8. Do all 3 have an obnoxious hook??? If not...fix it or scrap it. I will quit the day I wake up and find ...'my poor self dead' LOL The secret to getting anything is that the only thing that can stop you is to stop trying. Key things to remember. If you don't ask ....the answer is NO! The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Go back a hundred times and ask again. Example: I wanted the Custom Shop of a famous PU maker to make me an identical PU they made for a very famous player. They said no 3 times. So I asked that famous player if he would help. He did. He said I just had to keep it a secret. In fact I literally got one made for him. I can not say who but I can say he still fronts the same 3 piece band :-) .

I played a Gretsch on your recommendation earlier this year- I've never been attracted to Gretsch because I viewed them as "clanky, old fashioned, giant' guitars. I picked up a G5410t at a local shop and that fretboard felt like BUTTER. Fastest impulse buy I've ever made 😂
Amen! I bought a Eastman T486-GB this year and it is my best guitar I have of only 7 at this moment. The Eastman is a lifer and I will buy another one.
I played an Eastman Juliet the other day that I would have otherwise overlooked had one not been featured on this channel. It was not the guitar I left with that day, but it came close.

I got an Epiphone les Paul then you were going Les Paul crazy after I just got one just after you said you were done with them. the squire Classic vibe tele deluxe was great and after watching your video I got one and love it and just saw one on the the other channel I watch on here and the guy playing one today and he bought a broken deluxe for 70 quid and fixed it and it sounds great so that squire was inspired by yourself and your video on it. Thanks again it’s been a blast. The mustang is next on the list.
I just loved this presentation! Never saw your channel before, but I just liked and subscribed. That Eastman has a unique look to it and I’d like to see and hear more of their stuff. Personally, I liked the Guild Kim Thayil Signature the best, but I’d have to play it to make sure. My wife is fantastic and she’s always happy for me when I get a new guitar or amp, but if she ever starts saying that I bought too many guitars I’m going to show her this video. Thanks Colin - I tune in every week / Friday to see what's going down. Always sensible, informed advice! No nonsense valued advice. I've not acquired a new guitar in two + years... and I'm in the market.. but it's such a minefield.... channels like your's are an invaluable resource! Reason being - most of us watching (I believe) are on a budget.... buying a new guitar or even a second hand guitar is quite an investment in these cash strapped times... you've got to see through the marketing to the nub / crux of it all... we're not all virtuosos... we bumble through at varying levels of (in)competence.. well I do anyway...Of all you've reviewed in 2023 I'd probably go for the Kim Thayill Polara! I'm a sucker for a Grunge Era Signature guitar and I get the inkling that Guild are a little underrated... but I also agree with thee for VFM / top QC then Eastman seem to be hitting it out the park at the moment.... my local (independent) guitar shop has had a few in and they are great! Personally speaking it's all about just getting over that £1000+ mental block thing for a guitar that doesn't have Fender, Gibson or Gretsch on the headstock.. which is my failing not theirs!! So thankyou again and have a well earned break:) cheers now

Hi Colin! Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and a blessed and joyous New Year! As I have said before, after my accident, your videos were my distraction and entertainment through a long recovery. It was a year since my busted shoulder on December 8th. It is only now that I can play without pain and with some dexterity. I did make a few purchases this year--a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Tele -- in butterscotch. It is absolutely brilliant! Also, I am in the process of a Squier CV Mustang in vintage white. I will let you know all about it... Anyway, my deepest thanks for getting me though a tough year. All the best! Harry

It was a roller coaster year wasn’t it? I had one myself. Acquired three guitars brought another out of retirement, so four guitars this year that I don’t have room for and haven’t sold any. Next year I will focus on getting rid of some gear I don’t use or need. And some gear I can use to get other gear by trade or selling to fund it. I just realized I should do an inventory but I have gear scattered from one side of town to the other. I forced myself to go to some jam nights and that was productive and fun too. I auditioned for a band and got the gig. So that’s good, I still have it. lol

Love your show. I think of it as the Bernie Marsden show, lol. You have the right look, your manner is very similar. The capper is you have that laid back playing style where every note is important and you have to pull out not from the gear but your touch

I will be 77 on the 3rd. I am still at it at least 4 hours every day. lol. All thru the 70's I was the guitarist for Tallis. We lived and played the London West End clubs everyone played coming up. I met most of the greats. Clapton (he let me play his guitar) , Hendrix twice. I went saw Joe Pass with Steve Howe.
We had a following big enough that we opened for Rush. Ronnie Wood stepped in and found me a good deal so I could get my first Marshall JMP50. I could write a book :-)
I haven't played a cover song since '69. I have written hundreds of tunes but only hang onto my best which are now 33. My goal is if the tune doesn't stick in the listeners head like for example Smoke on the Water. It goes. You have a verse, chorus and middle 8. Do all 3 have an obnoxious hook??? If not...fix it or scrap it.
I will quit the day I wake up and find ...'my poor self dead' LOL
The secret to getting anything is that the only thing that can stop you is to stop trying. Key things to remember. If you don't ask ....the answer is NO! The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Go back a hundred times and ask again.
Example: I wanted the Custom Shop of a famous PU maker to make me an identical PU they made for a very famous player. They said no 3 times. So I asked that famous player if he would help. He did. He said I just had to keep it a secret. In fact I literally got one made for him. I can not say who but I can say he still fronts the same 3 piece band :-) .

I played a Gretsch on your recommendation earlier this year- I've never been attracted to Gretsch because I viewed them as "clanky, old fashioned, giant' guitars. I picked up a G5410t at a local shop and that fretboard felt like BUTTER. Fastest impulse buy I've ever made 😂

I got an Epiphone les Paul then you were going Les Paul crazy after I just got one just after you said you were done with them. the squire Classic vibe tele deluxe was great and after watching your video I got one and love it and just saw one on the the other channel I watch on here and the guy playing one today and he bought a broken deluxe for 70 quid and fixed it and it sounds great so that squire was inspired by yourself and your video on it. Thanks again it’s been a blast. The mustang is next on the list.

I just loved this presentation! Never saw your channel before, but I just liked and subscribed.
That Eastman has a unique look to it and I’d like to see and hear more of their stuff. Personally, I liked the Guild Kim Thayil Signature the best, but I’d have to play it to make sure.
My wife is fantastic and she’s always happy for me when I get a new guitar or amp, but if she ever starts saying that I bought too many guitars I’m going to show her this video. It looks like a get out of jail card for me.

Thanks Colin - I tune in every week / Friday to see what's going down. Always sensible, informed advice! No nonsense valued advice. I've not acquired a new guitar in two + years... and I'm in the market.. but it's such a minefield.... channels like your's are an invaluable resource! Reason being - most of us watching (I believe) are on a budget.... buying a new guitar or even a second hand guitar is quite an investment in these cash strapped times... you've got to see through the marketing to the nub / crux of it all... we're not all virtuosos... we bumble through at varying levels of (in)competence.. well I do anyway...Of all you've reviewed in 2023 I'd probably go for the Kim Thayill Polara! I'm a sucker for a Grunge Era Signature guitar and I get the inkling that Guild are a little underrated... but I also agree with thee for VFM / top QC then Eastman seem to be hitting it out the park at the moment.... my local (independent) guitar shop has had a few in and they are great! Personally speaking it's all about just getting over that £1000+ mental block thing for a guitar that doesn't have Fender, Gibson or Gretsch on the headstock.. which is my failing not theirs!! So thankyou again and have a well earned break:) cheers now
