Well that’s my productivity in the toilet for the next 40 odd minutes
😂
So true - but we all seem to be the same :-)
I hope whilst at work!
Sent me straight to the toilet as well.
Denmark Street is, sadly, a shadow of its former self. I remember when I moved to London from Glasgow in 2000 being absolutely enthralled by the place. But most of the old guitar shops have gone, to be replaced by "trendy cafes". I used to rehearse with various bands in the studio there but that's gone too. Very sad,
i agree, its generally overpriced, being bang in londons west end, used to find deals,or haggle deals back in the day,i got to personally know the owner of andys guitar shop,he allways did you a good deal, but i wouldnt shop in denmark st now, though its good to see tokai have distribution in the uk,hard to fault the japanese models.and it still has a bit off historical value
I remember gawking through the windows as a kid in the 70s and 80s, then buying my first strat there. It's so much less of an experience now...
As someone who has been pressing his nose up against the shop windows there for an embarrassing number of years, I'm pleased that Denmark Street still exists. I think it was quite threatened by the recent redevelopment around that area of Tottenham Court Road.
Plenty of names have come and gone. I've bought guitars from Boogie and Andy's Guitar Workshop in the past. Wunjo have been in a variety of the premises. It feels like they are somewhere different on the street each time I go. Slightly saddened that Macari's have retreated from nearby Charing Cross Road to deepest Sussex. I believe that one of the past managers of Macari's now runs Six Sixty Sounds in Denmark Street.
I think that Regent Sounds and Rose Morris have been a couple of the longest lasting shops in the same spot.
The attitude on Denmark Street has improved since the ‘90s when I was a teenager. It’s quite a friendly place these days. Still quite a great range of guitars, basses and amps available.
Yeah greedy Property Developers and the internet managed to fuck it up perfectly.... the current Mayor has zero respect for history and culture... London has become a theme park and Denmark Street a shopping Mall.... I tell people not to bother when they come to London.
In the 80s I worked on the top floor of centre point so spent many hours in Denmark St and Hanks when it was Andys. Still have some guitars from there.
Now my evening’s plans have just changed!
What I spotted when you asked is a Watkins Rapier. The main reason I'm aware of those is because that's what Danny Kirwan was playing when he was invited to join Fleetwood Mac.
Your videos are the Best such beautiful guitars. thanks Man
HAHA! You crack me up Colin! For a man who doesn't really like LPs you've certainly had a few... Looking for THE one eh ;)
I found a shop like Hanks in Arroyo Grande California called lighting Joe's guitar haven. As soon as I walked in it took my breath away and I almost couldn't move I was so overwhelmed. Anyway another great video. Cheers
Beautiful Tokai and a great trade for that Vox.
Arrgh, that C2C voice strikes fear into Southend residents everywhere.
That was an awful lot of fun, thanks man.
(David Attenborough voice) "And here we see the steel-topped Eastern guitar addict in hunting mode. I believe that he may have even caught a couple!"
I knew you couldn’t leave that Tokai behind. You outdid yourself on this one. You should do a video like this every few months.. 👍
Nice collab video mate! You’re getting the hang of this RUclips thing. 😂
Fun fun fun ! I’ve never been to England but hope to one day before I head to the great gig…somewhere !!!
Well the Flying V sold within a few days at the value I hoped for so all is well that ends well! Plus the thought of lugging it back with me to Amsterdam, well, my back is pleased!
Great fun! Next you come over and visit with us here!
Cheers!
Cheers Mike, glad it sold so quickly 👌... looking forward to doing it in Amsterdam! 😁👍
I misspoke about one thing. I know of three personally owned two of the four. A little bit of research shows there may have been a fifth which was a burst similar to the one I own.
Speaking as a Mancunian, it was great to see some of the sights of London that us musicians find of interest. I’ve seen lots of Art galleries and one or two pubs in London, but never any guitar stores. It was really fun to watch.
I'm from Little Hulton but spend quite a bit of time in the capital. It's great for Guitar hunting but not what it used to be. It's still a mecca in the UK for Musical instrument shops and absolutely worth a visit a couple of times a year.
I’m from Bolton and I’ve never once been to London but after watching this video I would definitely go and visit.
@@garygritter5701 I went to school in Little Lever. I was born in Townleys. Don't know if that Hospital is still there? If you can get to London now and again Guitar hunting you won't regret it. I'd do some planing though, it can get a bit overwhelming when your unprepared. Good luck 🤞
I was here. Interesting episode. Always like to ogle nice guitars. Love the amber top on the Stoner. Cheers!
Most excellent video , Colin . Last bit of business i did in Denmark Street was 40 odd years ago . Sold an Ibanez Explorer ,to help fund a deposit on my first flat in London .
I would have watched a 2 hour edit of just the goings on in those Denmark st. stores. Great video, thanks.
Excellent video my man.
That stoner you got ... Mustard and some.
Cool guy 🍄
You play it beautifully .
Cheers mate!
THAT was enjoyable Colin, thank you...I knew you couldnt walk away from that Tokai....lol
Might have taken a while for you to get one but, welcome to the MIJ Tokai Club!
Thanks Colin you have made a nearly old man happy loved every minute.
Cheers Neil!... what's your definition on 'nearly old' exactly? 🤣🤣👍
64
@@neilevans6229 that’s not even ‘nearly old’ these days! 🤣👍
Colin. Dude!!! What a fantastic episode. I loved that it was truly like taking a trip to the music stores with the friends. Unlike most other channels where these kind of trips are staged, you continue to be one of the last genuine channels out there. I will continue to sing your praises and share your vids to everyone I can.
Cheers mate that’s appreciated! 😁🙏
I totally agree
I think they all went to England. Just ordered one from Rose Morris ! See how this one makes it across the pond 😂 Thanks Colin !
Nice one! 😁👍
@@theguitaristas 🙏
Fun field trip!
Brilliant, Colin as soon as I saw you were going to Denmark Street I knew you would finally encounter a Japanese Tokai Love Rock...as I have posted previously I have 7 Japanese Tokais - a Breezysound and a Hardpuncher bass - for recording purposes...my LP style guitars are 4 Love Rocks - 2 traditional series - a sea foam green standard and a white custom...plus 2 premium series (1 piece backs, nitro finish, etc) a black custom and a P90 Gold Top...my other MIJ is a TV Yellow Special - as the chap in Rose Morris said, these are players guitars for people in the know who don't care about having G on the headstock. All my LP guitars get rotated for every gig with fresh strings as I play in a very active punk rock band - all originals not covers - and next week I'll be taking one of my Tokais to Blackpool as we are playing Rebellion. I knew when I saw the case in front of you that you would have succumbed to Tokai Gas once you had played one and can't wait for next week's full review. Enjoy your new guitar and carry on with the best YT guitar channel. Cheers, John x (my band is called Slow Faction as per my YT monniker)
I'm off to Rebellion myself. Which band you in fella?
@@Paul-rt4ix Slow Faction - we're on Sunday at 8.45 on the RIS Pavilion stage....
Fascinating trip. Great to see Denmark street. That Stoner is great for that money. But I guessed you’d be home with the Tokai too. 😁
What a treat!!! (and now a target for my next trip to London)
Darn! I used to spend a lot of time in that area (British Museum, Tottenham Court Road stop, great area) ... I guess I was "young and idiotic" and not enough cash at the time! of course, I would have been young and penniless if my guitar juices were flowing back then
I’m 40 seconds in. I love it already! Great video
wow Denmark street the home of Avon Rose Morris, can`t believe they`re still there, I am so pleased to own a 1970 Les Paul pre Law Suit , fully original with a few dings but hey its over 50 years old, its the only one I own that sounds like my childhood, thanks for the safari trip Col what a great vid, just picked it up and played life on mars thanks to you cheers Col
I set my alarm clock early Friday mornings so I can be ready with coffee and snacks for the 6am video drop. My reward?....an hour of hanging with Colin and fellow Guitaristas that never disappoints!!
🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶👍😊
Cheers Jay, have a great day mate! 😁👍
@@theguitaristas Thanks Colin, you too!
Awesome Job! Need to get some of those Tokai’s across the pond!
Yeah! Was secretly hoping to see that Tokai in your studio at the end of the video. Looking forward to your review next week 👍
The thing is Colin you make all the guitars you play sound great!
😊🙏
Colin why do get this feeling that a playoff between the Stoner and the Tokai is coming 😉
What a brilliant way to start my Friday morning drinking my Earl Grey! Before this show, I only knew about Denmark Street from watching C.B. Strike. Definitely will have to check it out next time I visit London. Great show, and I love the change up for this week's gig.
Yes Cormoran Strike sleeps upstairs too! 😆👍
Denmark Street is absolutely lethal for the wallet.
very interesting London insights, been there last year's summer, stayed just around the corner in Fitzrovia, Newman St.
It's a comfort to wake up on a Friday morning and have a new episode of The Guitaristas waiting for me. Greetings from Texas, love the show Colin.
Yes, a big howdy from Texas
Great vid you’ve inspired me to jump on a train and go Denmark street at some point this year
great lil switch up in the format, top notch vid 👍
I was blessed to obtain my UK Citizenship in 2021 and we, Odin and I, intend to be in Scotland permanently, in the reasonably near future.
This has to be an excision once there.
Brilliant!
Thanks for the trip across the pond, Colin. Been a long time for me. Looks like you got a Yankee ingenuity lesson today. Cheers! 🇨🇦
Most excellent Colin!!!
The V led you down the path to the Tokai❣️🎸❤️😍
What a wonderful episode of The Guitaristas.
I’ve been away from my guitars for a week, I’m getting the shakes.
Good to have a break sometimes and get the mojo rising!
@@theguitaristas as my friend FXDLS Brooklyn says PMA! (Positive Mental Attitude)
@@cataclysmicconverter Oh, that would be an epic video!
Great video can we have a few more like this please? Cool to see what goes on behind the scenes
That old Stoner is cool as hell. I mean he's cool too. But🤘.... had a feeling you snatched the Tokai. Great vid
Another great vid thanks Colin👍
I’ve been looking on the Rose Morris site at the Tokai’s it’s nice to see the guys that run it and getting an insight …I think my next guitars going to be a Tokai les Paul or ES not sure yet .great video as always 👍👍👍.
Great video, I really enjoyed that & best of luck with the Tokai…. It’s a beauty
Those shops are dangerous!
I would have to take my blood pressure medicine just to go in there.( and leave my credit card at home). If you ever get to L.A., you have to go to Norm’s Rare Guitars.
One shop had a Les Paul Deluxe in Wine Red. I have a 79 wine red deluxe I bought new. I have never had a speck of trouble with it.
That sun burst Tokai is gorgeous.
Can’t wait for next week.🎸🎸
Just made my vacation itinerary planning easy! Done!
More guitar shop visits/tours please. Love it. Meeting other Guitar RUclipsrs to do gear swaps - interesting possibilities for future content.
Thanks for the tour. Those guitar shops are truly amazing. Cheers!
Ah, Vox Humana. I get guitar parts from them sometimes.
Back in the 70s I would often travel down from North Herts and do the walk from King's Cross, down Tottenham Court Road for the Hi-Fi, Denmark Street for the guitars and through to the Imprial War Museum. Sheer bliss..
i haven't been since 1990. Shame.😢
Great show again.
Great video Colin. Keep doing what your doing. Putting smiles on peoples faces.
Absolutely outstanding Sir!! Many thanks once again.
We were there in from the US last month. So much fun for a guitar nerd to see SO many guitars on 1 block. The shop owners were all super chill and friendly. I wish I could go back! Thanks for the great video Colin.
another great show. thanks so much for this one.
Thanks for taking us along, love to spend an afternoon in those shops.
Great vid as always. Cannot wait for next week’s review of that very beautiful guitar.
Thanks for the great information. As always, we learn from you.
Amazing episode, Col! Many thanks!
Great video as always, Thank you
Great to see you out in the wild.. sweet tokai..nice work ,
Love the ending - just when I thinking it wasn’t going to end as we all expected, you didn’t disappoint 😂Keep up the good work!
Somethings for everyone on Denmark street. Historic and loads of fun. Great video!! Cheers
Following you for quite a long time, I really enjoy these shop safari videos 😊, please do more.
Loved this episode. that stoner burst is really interesting.
What a great trip thos week! That Tokai is really really beautiful. And great playout too!
Nice tour, been down Denmark St many times, it was great to see that Columbus guitar as I once had one it brought back nice memories, thanks.
Very cool video! I liked the tour. .since my great, great grandparents came from London to the states it was nice to get a little music store tour. Thanks!
What a great video!! Well done
What a great video! Thank you for this, really interesting 👌🤘
One of the best episodes yet. Keep up the great work.
Seeing all those shops in Denmark Street bought back some very happy memories of me and my mate bunking off school to visit all those beautiful shops in and around Denmark St. and Shaftesbury Ave. Macari's, Sound City and all those other great places that are no longer with us.
Really interesting and packed video. Again, guitars I’ve never heard of but look great and to me at least sound fantastic and as good as the big names. Thanks for the work and effort you put in for us every week 👍🏻🎸
That was a great video. The Tokai looks awesome, looking forward to seeing your review.
Very entertaining, indeed, Colin! Looking forward to next weeks breakdown.
Look forward to seeing and hearing the new addition to your collection next week. Your videos are great and are helping me learn more about things other than how to play a guitar and what I need to know about them. when I buy the next one for my daughter after she fell in love with my new Korean made Epiphone les Paul standard and wants one like it, I don’t have to spend big money thanks to your vids as I feel they are honest and down to earth unlike some others I have watched.
ROFL!!!! I knew you were going to buy that!!!! GAS is dangerous!!!😅
Hi Col great film and may I say you did very well on that guitaristas day out - you got two cracking guitars! I’m looking forward to the breakdown next week! Thanks for the effort - that Denmark Street film was excellent!
Have to admit I feel left out guys!! haha Both of your new LPs look great Colin. Great video once again,.
Cheers man, now I'm out of my comfort zone I reckon we'll do that thing sometime!! 😁👍
Hey Dave! That would have been awesome!
Colin out in the wild… Great film, thanks for having us! Please more of this! 😃
Cheers, Sandro
Well that was a pleasant surprise at the end! Congratulations sir! 👍🏻
Coolest history in this one local area...mind blowing indeed 😃👍
😎✌👍❤🖖
Love Brother
Really enjoyed that trip down Denmark Street and the discussion about Tokai. Great Friday night entertainment…thanks Colin 🙏
I LOVED seeing you out in the wild! More videos like this every once in a while would be fantastic.
Oh, and the blue Strat at 14:25 definitely caught my attention, and much like you, I’m not really a Strat guy!
I had a sneaking suspicion that Tokai wd wind up at Colin Towers!!
Nothing wrong with the Stoner either mate.✌️
Edit: Great video too, l did notice a black Gretsch Jet with deArmonds...
As you said "GAS is rising"!
What an original episode, Colin! Adventurous, educative and with a bit of guitar drama as well 😉 You really don't stop surprising me. The guitar store guys were great. And I'm looking forward to your new Tokai's demo! Hope you compare it to the Chinese one if you still have it...
I do still have it and that's bound to happen! 😁👍
@@theguitaristas Cool, hope to see another episode of this new format sometime in the future again, too! Very refreshing and seems to suit you well, the shop shoots were very immersive and well done IMO 👍A great opportunity to see unique places and an inspiration for a future visit in person maybe...
What this proves to me is that my credit cards need to stay locked up or locked out when visiting Denmark Street. Thanks for sharing the sights and sounds!
Great stuff .. Denmark Street sure worth another visit .. delighted you bought the Tokai enjoy
The Stoner looks great . Felt like I was back in London for a bit great field trip enjoyed the video a lot . Even learned some music history.
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks Colin.
Great entertaining video Colin, I enjoyed that 👍. Especially the ending - that Tokai looks stunning. I’ve a feeling it’s a keeper. Congratulations
Love the idea of the guitaristas filming on location. Brilliant video, leaves me wanting a Tokai!
Fantastic episode, I loved it! I hope you will make more of these types of vids to mix in with your regular guitar breakdown reviews. Maybe even a guest or two once in a while, I loved your interaction with Mike McWilliams.
The Tokai is gorgeous. Can't wait for next week's video. Well done.
Very interesting video Colin, I hope you enjoy your 2 new LPs.😊
