As much as I love vintage guitar shops, I gotta say, often times I find that the vintage gear is barely setup right or given major care. It's weird when they're asking such high prices. I use vintage shops as a way to learn what to look for in a vintage guitar, and that's where a lot of the fun is for me.

Great guitars and great amps. Interesting shops but i think Carter Vintage Guitars was the best shop and they obviously let you play a lot of stuff. Vintage instruments that have had some work done still have plenty of vibe but are priced lower where poor people like us could maybe splurge for one. JD Simo's Fender amp with the 15 inch JBL speaker sounded great to me. Killer amp. Plug a strat, tele, or Lester Poulfus into that and you are golden. No pedals required. I thought your licks and playing were really good. Your friend sounds like B.B. King in the '50's and '60's. Incredible tone and feel. You can tell he has spent some time playing. Thanks for the cool video. Road trips are always interesting.

You should put out an EP or an album soon, release it on RUclips and also band camp or iTunes, people will buy it. Also maybe do some music videos for some songs, it will go a long way. If you can put out a really solid batch of songs and do some accompanying videos, you can really go far Matt, we believe in you. You have a really solid following so far, you can easily grow from that. All it takes is one video to blow up!

I love Maple fret boards. I take steel wool to get the finish off. That's what makes them feel stiff. Your fingers inadvertently rub the finish which creates friction. So I always buy a relic strat with nitrocellulose finish. That way you can't tell the difference.

Just missed you at Gruhns. I go by there a couple times a year. In the old days, they had more of the older stuff on the floor. These days it's mostly acoustic with a few electrics thrown in. What I like is that they are more than happy to let anyone play anything. They're very nice. I played an early 60s strat (18k)there about a year ago, and it sounded awful, largely because of what you mentioned. The strings were old, the action was all effed up, and it probably hadn't been set up in ages, which is weird because they have a workshop right upstairs. They do seem to focus more on the acoustics these days. Fun video. Thanks for sharing.

So with the Korena strats, Fender in ‘63 was experimenting with different kinds of wood for strats. As far as I know, they only made around 7 or 8 Korena Strats in ‘63. Slash owns one, Steven Segal own one, and two other ones are known to exist. The one in your video and one in my hometown. The one where I’m from is listed for $60K. Anyways, thought I’d share that info with you. Also, here’s the link to the Strat in my town: www.rivercityguitars.com/listing/fender-1963-korina-limba-body-stratocaster-sunburst/25886470

@@MatthewScottmusic But the people there are so nice to the average joe and the set up is fantastic with lots of space. I thought Carter's was going to be the standout but the salesmen there were assholes and I was even planning to buy a 70s 335 from them but the experience totally soured me!

I’ve never had a bad experience with Carter Vintage, and I’ve bought several vintage items from them. However, I’ve never had a good experience at Gruhn’s, and that’s why I have never purchased anything from them.

@@charlesbolton8471 same here. Can’t stand Gruhn’s but Carter’s is always cool. I don’t even go to Gruhn’s these days, but will stop by Carter’s a couple times a year.

Great tour...I've been on that tour myself (missed east side shop) Fanny;s is cool and stoclked with low end vintage..... Gruhn's is definitely better stocked with interesting acoustics than electrics. Prewar refinished 0s & 00-45s are heavenly sounding and priced at $25K & below... got to talk to George Gruhn for over an hour. Interesting fellow to speak to about the state of guitar market, environment and all sort of things. Came close to buying a sinker mahogany Martin, but not thrilled about the neck...I had the same vibe at Rumbleseat....same as I got when I visited their Ithaca, NY store several years ago...you missed the Nashville Guitar Center which compares to the LA-Hollywood store but with friendly and helpful staff....counterintuitive, I know.

That Guitar Center down the street on Thompson Lane is by far the best Guitar Center location I’ve ever been in. I don’t even like Guitar Center normally, but I like that one.
