That is a crazy response. Shootings like this, while dramatic and devastating, are a tiny tiny fraction of the murders in the US. Most murders are committed by people who know or are related to their victims. Domestic murders are much more common than these mass shootings. And they usually happen with guns too. I hope you don't have guns at your house because avoiding school for fear of shootings but keeping guns in your house is dumb. A gun in the house increases the chance of someone in the house being host by multiple times.

Sounds like chaos to me. Having both parents constantly fighting with each other is not a positive thing. It negates ‘staying together’. They are in her life but fighting, getting together then breaking up then getting together and breaking up again. Some kids are traumatized by one divorce. This one got the scar twice. Whatever happened it was bad enough for courts to recommend therapy.
Divorce still fucks up a kid bad. It isn't an excuse but she must have been traumatized from something in her personal life here. Having two parents together in a stable household is beneficial for the growth of children and the absence of that can cause them to have irrational behavior.
Our local News in San Diego said that a local guy was in touch with this girl who shot the students in Madison and he wanted to shoot people here, but he was arrested. We should have more news on this tomorrow

Repeated marriage and divorce, custody arrangements, therapy... not excusing what their daughter did in any way, but her family seemed unstable and dysfunctional. Her parents did not have a positive relationship and that was a source of mental/emotional trauma for a vulnerable teen like her. Another issue...we all had trauma growing up....there is a new issue with kids and social media today. For instance, back in the day, our bullies were generally at school...and we learned boundaries and survival, and even if we went home to unpleasant surroundings, we could still "escape" any school issues....now kids really only socialize through social media....there is NO escaping torment from kids or feelings of inadequacy once they get home. There is ZERO safe space for them from ANY of their traumas...so they no longer have the skillset to deal with the fallout...then add access to weapons, seeing how so many others do the same, etc. So out of hand and we as a country are doing nothing to address it other than maybe a hotline number here and there. Once again, where did this child get handguns? Chances are they were owned by one or both of her parents and kept in the home unsecured. I cannot emphasize this enough--if you have handguns or any kind of weapons, you as the responsible adult and gun owner need to make sure that they are secured at ALL times especially if there are children present in the home. A 15-year-old can't purchase firearms, so they had to have been unlawfully removed from somewhere. If the guns did belong to her parents, they should be made liable for this. I hate to add insult to injury, but you need to take responsibility for your weapons and your child.

Counselors have it rough. "Parents bring me a child that having problems and tell me to fix it. I have no choice. If I speak the truth and tell the parents that THEY are the crazy ones, I'll never see the child again. Instead, I go along with it. My only option is just to sit there and be a friend to the child." The child is responsible for this shooting but the parents certainly caused this. My sympathies to the counselor.
My brother went to Madison East High. There was a student who had a gun, and they only shut down half the school. The next period started, and they forced my brother to go to the other side where the armed student was. Nothing happened thank goodness, but still wtf man. Also, I had a guy in my class who had a weapon. We all were instructed to leave the room immediately.

Why is father not arrested yet. Where did a 15-year-old get 2 loaded guns. Also, there are many other are shot and wounded around Christmas time. So sad for the dead ladies. Sitting in a safe place studying.

Parents have to be held responsible.
What good would that do? How old does a child have to be for their parents not to be responsible for them anymore? Can an adult commit a crime and then blame a bad childhood? As much as this is more than likely a failing on the parents part you can't arrest the parent for a crime they were not involved in.
This news anchor made me feel uncomfortable the way she reported on this so non-chalant… like “just another news day”… no empathy at all, she almost seemed upbeat. It made me cringe.
This happens quite frequently in the US. It has become another day another shooting. And yes it is horrible for the families but routine event now.

Repeated marriage and divorce, custody arrangements, therapy... not excusing what their daughter did in any way, but her family seemed unstable and dysfunctional. Her parents did not have a positive relationship and that was a source of mental/emotional trauma for a vulnerable teen like her.
It's sad that her suffering caused her to act out the way she did prior to taking her own life, and it's also sad for the families of those she victimized.

Another issue...we all had trauma growing up....there is a new issue with kids and social media today. For instance, back in the day, our bullies were generally at school...and we learned boundaries and survival, and even if we went home to unpleasant surroundings, we could still "escape" any school issues....now kids really only socialize through social media....there is NO escaping torment from kids or feelings of inadequacy once they get home. There is ZERO safe space for them from ANY of their traumas...so they no longer have the skillset to deal with the fallout...then add access to weapons, seeing how so many others do the same, etc. So out of hand and we as a country are doing nothing to address it other than maybe a hotline number here and there. It's not enough ..obviously
Same day Clarion Co and Jefferson county PA had lock downs in two schools,due to man calling his wife who is a teacher and telling her he was coming to shoot her, student's and himself. What is wrong with people? Thank God he was stopped

The news lady seems to have a smirk on her face. It kinda irritated me.
Once again, where did this child get handguns? Chances are they were owned by one or both of her parents and kept in the home unsecured. I cannot emphasize this enough--if you have handguns or any kind of weapons, you as the responsible adult and gun owner need to make sure that they are secured at ALL times especially if there are children present in the home. A 15-year-old can't purchase firearms, so they had to have been unlawfully removed from somewhere. If the guns did belong to her parents, they should be made liable for this. I hate to add insult to injury, but you need to take responsibility for your weapons and your child.

Counselors have it rough. "Parents bring me a child that having problems and tell me to fix it. I have no choice. If I speak the truth and tell the parents that THEY are the crazy ones, I'll never see the child again. Instead, I go along with it. My only option is just to sit there and be a friend to the child."
The child is responsible for this shooting but the parents certainly caused this. My sympathies to the counselor.
My brother went to Madison East High. There was a student who had a gun, and they only shut down half the school. The next period started, and they forced my brother to go to the other side where the armed student was. Nothing happened thank goodness, but still wtf man.
Also, I had a guy in my class who had a weapon. We all were instructed to leave the room immediately.
